Cousins! It went down on social media recently as Hip Hop Femcees Nicki Minaj and Latto went head to head or should we say tweet for tweet in regards to the 2023 preliminary Grammy nominations!
According to Buzzfeed, the official Grammy nominations will not be announced until next month on November 23rd. However Nicki’s Instagram live titled “Dear Grammys”’ definitely sparked a couple fires beforehand.
As we previously reported Nicki called out the music academy on social media upon claims that her billboard chart topping single ‘Super Freaky Girl’ had been removed from the Rap category nominations for reportedly being too pop. “Super Freaky Girl,’ where I only rapped on the song, was removed out of the rap categories at the Grammys and put in pop.”
Nicki made it clear that she had no problem with being moved to the pop category as long as everyone was being treated fairly, which in her opinion meant the hit single ‘Big Energy’ be moved too. “Now, let’s say that ‘Super Freaky Girl’ is a pop song. Let’s just say that. What is [Latto’s] ‘Big Energy’? … If you move ‘Super Freaky Girl’ out of rap and put it in pop, do the same thing for ‘Big Energy.’ Same producers on both songs, by the way. So let’s keep shit fair. Even when I’m rapping on a pop track, I still out-rap.”
Soon after Nicki’s rant on social media Latto then tweeted, “Damn I can’t win for losing… all these awards/noms I can’t even celebrate.”
Shortly after that Nicki returned to Twitter to share a private conversation. She didn’t initially share who the message was from but the context surrounding it definitely gave off some clues. “This Karen has probably mentioned my name in over 100 interviews,” Nicki Minaj tweeted. “Says she waited in line for Pink Friday w/her Barbie chain on, bangs, pink hair..but today, scratch off decides to be silent; rather than speak up for the Black woman she called her biggest inspiration,” said Nicki in a now deleted series of tweets.
Latto took to her Twitter account in response to the shared message by saying, “1st of all I texted u cause I didn’t wanna do the internet sht w sum1 I looked up to. Just like the 1st time I DMed u asking about ur ongoing subtweets. I wanted to speak up cuz like I said I do agree but the way u going about it seems malicious esp. after how we left off.” She continued in saying, “I’ve ignored countless subtweets since March and instead addressed u in the dm. You’re asking why I didn’t speak up in ur defense… it’s the same answer I gave u when u asked why I didn’t congratulate you. Ur literally older than my mom tryna be a bully @NICKIMINAJ”
Nicki clearly wasn’t feeling the jab at her age and responded in saying the 23 year old looked 35 years old while accusing her of ageism.
Further down the line of the feud Latto let Nicki know that she was once her idol but she wasn’t going to allow her to bully her . The Atlanta rapper also tweeted about Nicki having rapist in her family. “BEEN subbing… super freaky grandma is married AND related to f***ing rapists. You ain’t gone bully me B**H! My idol turned rival now u hating!”
Latto also continued to share dated tweets, interview clipping and more to back up her claims of Nicki taking indirect jabs at her.
As the feud continued Nicki accused Latto of having an issue with her because she previously declined two features request. She also says that Latto’s most recent project flopped in sales it’s first week out: ”You sold 20K right? Mad u flopped. That’s why u rlly mad.”
The feud continued for hours on in but most of the tweets on Nicki’s end were deleted. Cousins, what are your thoughts on this do you think the two women will be able to find some sort common ground in the future?
