Cousins! Please join us in sending prayers to a Boston Civil Rights icon who was brutally attacked earlier this week as she walked her dog at a local park on Wednesday!

Jean McGuire, 91 was walking her dog Bailey within Playstead Park within the Jamaica Plain area around 8:30PM when the tragic incident occurred. According to CBS Boston, an unidentified person approached her and stabbed her numerous times. “The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries,” reads a press release from the Boston Police department.

It has been stated that the unidentified person was injured as well as both Jean fought back and Bailey attacked to help protect his owner. “[Jean] attacked this guy. She was kicking him in the nuts while Bailey was working him over. And he tried to run, and the dog chased him. And [the attacker] disappeared out of sight,”says her friend Jerline Brady-McGinnis.

Thankfully Jean is expected to survive and is currently recuperating. Unfortunately the attacker has not yet been captured and no arrests have been made.

Jean is known for making history as the first woman of color elected to the Boston School Committee within the early 80s. She assisted in founding a program established to challenge segregation in Boston schools called Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity.

The city’s mayor went to see Jean as she recovers from the injuries. “I’m disgusted and angry to know that an elder in our community had to fear for her safety going about her daily routine, walking her dog,” says Mayor Michelle Wu in a forwarded statement. “I’ve had the chance to connect with this patient who is an inspiration in every way.”

Cousins, police officials encourage anymore with details in connection to this incident to contact Boston Police at 617-343-4275 or the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1 (800) 494-TIPS.
