Noir Nation! While attending the New York City red-carpet premiere for the Lisa Lisa biopic film ‘Can You Feel The Beat’, Bre-Z spoke on the honor she felt in playing Lisa’s longtime best friend the legendary Toni Menage and what she is most hopeful for viewers to learn from her story!
“I’m not sure how many people are familiar with Lisa. Lisa, she’s definitely a trailblazer,” said Bre-Z when asked what she’s most excited for the new generation of creatives to take away from the film.
“She crawled, so a lot of these women could walk. So super, super, super excited for people to really just get our story. She has such an interesting life, such a unique experience in life and in this industry, and one that’s gonna—-tug at your hearts doing so.
“I’m super, super happy for people to just know her.
The ‘Can You Feel The Beat: The Lisa Lisa Story’ produced by Tracy ‘Twinkie Byrd’ tells the story of iconic singer and music pioneer Lisa Velez , the music industry as a teenage girl from New York City. At only fifteen years old Lisa was forced to learn the dark side of the glitz and glam as she faced sexism and racism.
With her best friend and backup singer Toni by her side throughout her entire career, Lisa was able to face adversity head on while successfully securing multiple spots on music billboard charts with classic songs such as ‘Can You Feel The Beat’, ‘All Cried Out’ and ‘Lost In Emotion’
Based on a true story, ‘Can You Feel The Beat’ serves as a journey of strength, triumph, and resiliency.
