Cousins! A Russian court has denied WNBA all star Brittney Griner ‘s appeal of her 9 year sentencing for drug possession and is now moving forward in the next steps of her conviction!

According to NBC News, the 32 year old appeared at the Moscow Regional Court hearing this morning through video chat from a detention center. It has been stated that she looked disheartened by the recently issued update. Brittney is expected to be moved out of general population and into a penal colony.

Brittney’s attorneys says that the court’s decision was not what they expected and that it could be a long time before she’s moved out of general population. “She had hopes for today as each month, each day away from her family and friends matters to her.” They state that the WNBA star fears that she’ll have to complete the entire 9 year sentencing and that she was initially hopeful her time would at least be reduced.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan released a statement early Tuesday morning following the tragic update. “President (Joe) Biden has been very clear that Brittney should be released immediately.” He continues in saying that in the last few weeks, “continued to engage with Russia through every available channel and make every effort to bring home Brittney as well as to support and advocate for other Americans detained in Russia, including fellow wrongful detainee Paul Whelan.”

Sullivan described the decision as “another sham judicial proceeding.”

As we previously reported, two-time Olympic gold medalist was sentenced to 9 years in prison for possession of drugs. Back in February of this year Russian authorities discovered vape canisters with cannabis oil in Brittney’s luggage.

Cousins, please join us in keeping Brittney as well as her family in our prayers!
