Common and Jennifer Hudson are keeping it real in regards to the future of their relationship. Common appeared on the EGOT winner’s talk show this week, where Hudson confronted Common about comments he made about their relationship while on The Breakfast Club.
Over the summer, Common told Charlamagne Tha God that his relationship with Hudson was “really healthy and beautiful relationship.” He went on to say, “If I’m going to get married, it’s to her.”
Well, this sentiment seems to have been new to Hudson, who confronted her boyfriend about the comments on an episode this week.
“I heard you’ve been even out there talking about marriage,” Hudson said to Common during the segment. “What’s that about? I just happened to notice that.” Common then responded with a quote from Hudson’s mother, that a “man knows what he wants.” He added, “I was saying my true feelings about … listen, ‘If I should be married it will be to Jennifer Kate Hudson! I was just being honest.”
The in-studio audience erupted in cheers after Common’s words, and Hudson replied by saying she thinks her mother would have said, “I don’t know about the rest of them but that Common is alright with me.”
Of course, social media had a field day with the segment, many taking to the comments of the official Instagram post of the video to share congratulations or give their two cents. One user wrote, “Look at Common using Common Sense!!! Gone cross into the Hudson River and be blessed sir! Congrats!”
Others shared similar sentiments, writing that Hudson “brings out the best in him” and that you can “see their chemistry.” Others, however, had a more cynicial approach in the comments, many alluding to Common’s past romantic history.
“He said a whole lot of nothing,” one user wrote. “Stop playing Common!” Another wrote that she better get the “most powerful prenup.”
Despite the negative, the comments leaned towards positive, with one of the most liked comments claiming, “y’all can say what y’all want about him. But when a man finds his ONE a man finds his ONE,” with a heart emoji.
