If you were still curious about why rapper Jadakiss was sitting down during The Lox’s recent NPR Tiny Desk Concert or why he was moving around with a cane during their set at the 2024 ESSENCE Festival of Culture last month—then boy, do I have some news for you.

As it turns out, the need to sit and the need for the cane was brought on by an accident that the “Finna Get Loose” rapper suffered back in June. Detailing the incident in a new interview on the “2 Jews & 2 Black Dudes” podcast, Kiss revealed that he was injured after being hit by a car thanks to an unskilled and unobservant driver.

“A car backed up into my knee the first week in June. It wasn’t going that fast but it was still a car. [It happened at] a gas station in White Plains,” he explained around the eight-minute mark. “[The driver] got out. He can’t apologize after that. I don’t wanna hear sorry; I’m fucking on the floor! He was just backing up, he didn’t know how to drive, he didn’t have a license. He was driving his girl’s car.”

As a result, he suffered a fractured knee cap and a tear in his meniscus but luckily, he didn’t have to go through surgery to get it fixed. He’s currently “about 70-something percent” healed.

And while the latter update is, in fact good news, the most surprising tidbit of it all lies in the most unsuspecting thing: his cane. Though it may look like a regular, old, walking cane: fans would be shocked to know that it was actually owned by the Notorious B.I.G. back in the day. Kiss said as much in a post to Instagram, writing succinctly: “Got Biggies Cane outta storage.”

True hip-hop heads will remember the “Big Poppa” rapper had to walk with a cane following a terrible car accident in 1996 that resulted in a broken left leg months before his shocking death the following year. Now, it looks like it’s being put to good use once again, but here’s hoping that the “Me” rapper won’t have to rely on it for too much longer.
