Broadway ushers in its newest star, Julius-Raymond Weems IV, as he dons the role of ‘Little Marlon’ in the critically acclaimed production of MJ The Musical. Ten-year-old Florida native Julius-Raymond Weems makes his Broadway debut in this Tony Award-winning production, succeeding Jace Bently. Weems joins the company led by Elijah Rhea Johnson as Michael Jackson, with the show continuing to break records at the Neil Simon Theatre.
Since MJ The Musical premiered in December 2021, it has thrilled over one million audience members and broken box office records eleven times. As Julius takes the stage on one of Broadway’s most iconic stages, he brings a wealth of talent and an inspiring story to this tribute to the King of Pop.
“A Dream I Didn’t Even Know I Had”
When asked about his reaction to joining the Broadway cast, Julius’s excitement was palpable.
“When I found out, I was like, ‘Wait… me?! On BROADWAY?!’ I couldn’t stop jumping around!” Julius shared. “I told my family, and we all started celebrating. It felt like a dream I didn’t even know I had just came true!”
For Julius, the magic of Broadway lies in the vibrant energy of the production. “The music, the lights, the energy, and hearing the audience clap and cheer—it’s like nothing else. It’s just so much fun being part of this big, amazing show!”
A New Perspective on Michael Jackson’s Legacy
Portraying Little Marlon has offered Julius a deeper appreciation for Michael Jackson’s artistry and determination.
“Starring as Little Marlon and understudying Little MJ helped me see how much work Michael put into everything he did,” he explained. “He studied all the great entertainers before him. He loved his family and wanted to be the best at everything he did. I understand now how hard you have to work to follow your dreams, just like he did. And he started young—kinda like me!”
Words of Wisdom from Castmates and Mentors
Julius credits his castmates and mentors with helping him navigate this exciting new chapter.
“One of my castmates told me to always stay focused but to have fun while I’m doing it,” Julius said. “My mentor also told me that every performance is special because there’s someone in the audience seeing it for the first time. That made me want to give my best every time I’m on stage.”
Looking Ahead
Julius’s Broadway debut has ignited a passion for storytelling that he hopes to carry throughout his career.
“This makes me want to keep going! I want to do more acting, singing, make music, and maybe even write or direct a play or movie one day,” he revealed. “Broadway showed me how amazing it feels to bring stories to life, and I want to keep doing that—whether it’s on stage, in movies, or with my own ideas. My parents taught me that if I believe in myself, work hard, and stay grateful to God for all my blessings, anything is possible.”
As Julius-Raymond Weems IV takes his first bow on Broadway, his journey is just beginning. With his undeniable talent and heartfelt gratitude, he’s sure to inspire audiences on and off the stage for years to come.
MJ The Musical continues its acclaimed run on Broadway, with additional productions currently thrilling audiences across the globe, including in Tulsa, Oklahoma, London, and soon, Hamburg and Sydney. Julius-Raymond Weems IV’s star is rising, and the world is ready to watch him shine.
