Actress Jurnee Smollett is embarking on a new legal battle with her ex-husband Josiah Bell nearly four years after their divorce as he reportedly requested half of her retirement plan!
Court documents obtained by The Breakfast Club confirm that Josiah is currently seeking 50% of the money Jurnee accrued in her retirement accounts paired with her Screen Actors Guild (SAG) pension within the years they were married from 2010-2019.
Sources state that following finalization of the couple’s divorce Josiah has received $7,000 a month in child support as well as alimony payments. The musician also received a million dollar settlement.
Despite Josiah’s outlandish demands, it has been indicated under California community property laws that he may be entitled to Jurnee’s earnings as marital assets are often divided equally in a divorce; report The Grio.
Community property laws apply to couples who have been together for 10 years or more.
According to reports from Black Enterprise, Jurnee and Josiah’s divorce plan administrator has been instructed to transfer half of her retirement to Bell.
As of right now neither Jurnee or Josiah have discussed the latest court battle publicly. It has been determined if Jurnee will appeal the courts decision.
“We were best friends before we started even dating, so we had this really great foundation. I think one of the challenging things about any lasting relationship is that you have to be so vulnerable,” said Jurnee in a 2013 interview with The Hollywood Reporter . “I think as human beings we try to hide our flaws and try to present this perfect person, this person we wish we were to our spouse when that causes so many troubles.”
The former couple were friends for years before they began dating and tied the knot in 2010. They welcomed a son Hunter Zion Bell together in November 2016.
