King Tingz! LeBron James is adding another historic move to his legacy as he’s been named the very first male professional athlete to secure his own Ken doll!
A press release from Barbie’s parent company Mattel, paid tribute to LeBron’s legacy as a positive role model for the next generation of children.
“We are excited to bring fans a new presentation of Ken that celebrates LeBron as a role model, his icon status, lasting impact on culture and dedication to setting a positive example for the next generation to reach their limitless potential,” Senior Vice President of Barbie and Mattel Global Head of Dolls Krista Berger said.
The NBA all-star celebrated the historic moment on social media among fans, while expressing he was honored to have his likeness on a Ken Doll.
“As a young kid, I was fortunate enough to have role models who not only inspired me but also showed me what’s possible through hard work and dedication,” wrote LeBron. “Now, as an adult, I understand how vital it is for young people to have positive figures to look up to, [and] that’s why partnering with Barbie to release the LeBron James Kenbassadors doll is such an honor.”
According to KTLA news, LeBron’s signature doll comes in complete custom packaging from physical attributes to attire. His doll is an inch taller than the standard Ken Doll and mirrors his distinct fashion style and athletic physique. LeBron’s Ken Doll includes a blue and cream colored varsity jacket, a “We Are Family” shirt, royal blue and white Nike sneakers, grey and black colored pants, Beats headphones, sunglasses, a fanny pack, a watch, and his famous “I Promise” band.
Sources state that LeBron worked very closely with Barbie’s team to decide on the doll’s attire.
LeBron’s Ken Doll was exclusively dropped on Saturday (April 12th) as a limited number of fans were able to snag a few. However, they are now available at select Target stores as well as their website including Amazon, Walmart, and Mattel Creations beginning Monday ( April 14th) at 12 a.m. for $75.
