Lil Durk, the critically acclaimed Grammy-nominated rapper from Chicago’s South Side, is in serious trouble as he has been indicted on murder-for-hire charges filed in a U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.
The 32-year-old artist, whose real name is Durk Banks, was arrested Thursday in Florida and remains in custody in a Broward County jail while waiting to be transferred to U.S. Marshals.
The charges are part of a broader federal investigation into a scheme to take out Georgia-based rapper Quando Rondo, whose given name is Tyquian Terrel Bowman.
According to that indictment, the alleged conspiracy was driven by revenge for the 2020 murder of Chicago rapper King Von, a close friend and collaborator of Banks. This case has received much attention, as the nature of the charges alleges internal betrayal inside Bank’s hip-hop collective, Only the Family known as OTF.
The OTF member, described as informant Jam, has been a central figure in the case, allegedly sporting a wire for several years to gather evidence for law enforcement against King Von’s team.
An informant identified as OTF member Jam has been the central figure in the case, having allegedly worn a wire for several years to gather evidence for law enforcement against King Von’s team.
In exchange for leniency on his crimes, Jam-who was released from prison in 2022 after serving a 12-year sentence for attempted murder-apparently furnished law enforcement with direct information that tied Banks to the murder-for-hire scheme against Bowman.
The betrayal in OTF represents how twisted loyalty and trust can be in the hip-hop world, especially within hip-hop that deals with violent disputes.
Fellow Chicago rapper King Yella went as far as to say that he heard Jam implicate Banks in Lul Pab’s murder-the cousin of Bowman-as a means of revenge connected with King Von’s death. The new allegations have thickened the plot in an already deeply intriguing case, sharpening questions about dynamics within OTF and its various members.

This indictment describes a coordinated effort between several people associated with OTF, who seemed to discuss payments about the plot against Bowman. Prosecutors said that, on the day of the attempted murder, credit cards associated with OTF booked flights for several persons returning to Chicago. The transactions joined recordings from the informant and made some of the key pieces of evidence linking Banks to the murder-for-hire plot.
It allegedly involved promising opportunities in the music world and financial gain for Bowman’s murder, since many believe he killed King Von. That murder, outside an Atlanta nightclub in 2020, shook the Chicago rap scene and put into perspective a simmering rivalry between two factions.
King Von’s death is sometimes Banks to this day, being more than just a friend to him; he also became one of his critical collaborators within the carBanks’ career, they did one of King Von’s breakout hits, “Crazy Story,” along with the highly critically acclaimed album “Welcome to O’Block.” Banks would later release a heartfelt track to his friend entitled “The Voice” in December 2020.
The incarcerated rapper, Lil Durk, despite the hanging legal trouble over his head, has recently been in the news for his work and community service. On October 18, he was presented with keys to both Broadview and Bellwood in a private event hosted at Broadview’s Village Hall. The Mayors of these communities saluted Durk for all his philanthropic efforts and announced a partnership with his charitable foundation. This speaks volumes about his influence away from music.
