Cousins! Congratulations are in order for lawmaker and congresswoman Rep. Karen Bass as CNN projects she’s been named the very first woman Mayor in the history of Los Angeles!
Reports read that Karen successfully dominated the polls over her opponent Rick Caruso who is said to have coughed up over $1.04 million dollars in campaign spending.
While representing both the South and West side of Los Angeles, the six term congresswoman was able to create a strong connection to Black voters. It was suggested that the same notion helped her to gain votes from White progressives also.
“This is my home, and with my whole heart, I’m ready to serve, and my pledge to you is that we will hit the ground running on Day One,” said Karen Wednesday evening.
Karen is believed to have earned the respect of her Democratic colleagues due to her years worth of experience in public policy, while continuously working hands-on in areas such as child welfare, foster care and prison reform.
Throughout her campaign Karen promised to focus on the rising homeless crisis. “Los Angeles is the greatest city on earth. I know, if we come together, hold each other accountable, and focus on the best of who we are and what we can achieve, we can create better neighborhoods today and a better future for our children,” she said in a forwarded statement on Wednesday.
Karen pointed out that her experience made her more advanced over Rick in understanding the problems closely connected to homelessness in Los Angeles.
“I have a background in the medical field. I’ve worked with these patients,” reads a collected interview report from CNN. “I spent several years in the emergency room at (LA) county. My patients were homeless. My patients were mentally ill. They had substance abuse. I know these systems.”
Following her projected win, Karen says she received, “a gracious call” from Rick. She says that she is hopeful that he will continue ,” his civic participation in the city that we both love.”
Cousins, please join us in congratulating Mayor Bass! 🎉
