Marlon Wayans Addresses Cancel Culture’s Concerns Over Comedic Style Projects Such As ‘White Chicks’, “I’m Still Gonna Tell My Jokes The Way I Tell Them”

Cousins! In today’s world we know that there is a fairly thin line between what’s considered funny verses what can be deemed controversially offensive. Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans is making it clear that when it comes down to his art he is not interested in creating content that adheres to society’s restrictions on certain topics and conversations!

Appearing in a recent interview with Buzzfeed Marlon was asked about his legendary 2000s film ‘White Chicks’ and if he thinks that a similar project would perform well in today’s climate.

“I think they’re needed. “I don’t know what planet we’re on, where you think people don’t need laughter, and that people need to be censored and canceled. If a joke is gonna get me canceled, thank you for doing me that favor.”

White Chicks is a comedy directed by Keenan Ivory Wayans about two Black FBI agents, played by Wayans and his brother Shawn, who go undercover as women in whiteface to solve a kidnapping plot. The film was nominated for five Razzies including Worst Picture, Worst Actress, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay and Worst Screen Couple, per Yahoo news.

Marlon continues, “It’s sad that society is in this place where we can’t laugh anymore. I ain’t listening to this damn generation.” Despite ‘White Chicks’ being deemed a cult classic, in recent years social media users have issued concerns about it being problematic. “I ain’t listening to these folks: These scared-a** people, these scared executives.”

The Brooklyn native says that he will continue to make films that he believes will make people laugh. Y’all do what you want to do? Great. I’m still gonna tell my jokes the way I tell them. And if you want to make some money, jump on board. And if not, then I’ll find a way to do it myself. I know my audience. My audience comes to my shows every weekend and they leave feeling great and laughing. One thing about the Wayans, we’ve always told the worst joke the best way.”

There’s been an ongoing debate on social media upon today’s president generation being described as being “too sensitive” when it comes down to comedy. Cousins, what are your thoughts on this?
