Cousins! Three families have been left searching for answers following the tragic death of a small group of friends while on vacation in Mexico City!
Virginia native and entrepreneur Kandace Florence, 28 alongside educator Jordan Marshall, 28; and teacher Courtez Hall, 33 of New Orleans were discovered lifeless on Sunday October 30th in an AirBnb.
According to Black Enterprise, security guards at the complex located in the La Rosita neighborhood mentioned the smell of gas after the two men and woman were found. It has been stated the friends had been vacationing in Mexico City to celebrate the holiday of “Día de Los Muertos,” which was recognized on November 1 and 2.
An autopsy report details that carbon monoxide poisoning was the possible cause of death; however further investigation is underway. “We can confirm the death of three U.S. citizens in Mexico. We are closely monitoring local authorities’ investigation into the cause of death,” reads a statement from a spokesperson with the U.S. Department of State.
Reports read that Kandance had been in contact with her boyfriend before her passing. He says that she had told him that she wasn’t feeling too well the very last time he spoke to her. He details that as she was telling him something was off the call ultimately disconnected. After numerous failed attempts to get through to her he then contacted the Airbnb host, alerting them to check on three tourists. When authorities arrived the group was identified as being dead on arrival.
Marshall’s mother Jennifer Marshall has come forward in saying that they weren’t initially informed about her son and his friends passed away prior to the release of the autopsy. “The Mexican police were not very forthcoming with information. Also, the language barrier was incredibly difficult as well.” She says that his body has been returned back home to the U.S.
Hall’s mom says, “it’s been so hard,” she said. “We tried calling back over there for the funeral homes. Because of the language barrier and stuff you cannot get anything through or really understand.”
