According to NBC News officials from the NYC Health Department cases were confirmed across five zip codes—10027, 10030, 10035, 10037, and 10039—since July 25.

According to People, city investigators have already tested every cooling tower in the affected area, ordering urgent disinfection where bacteria were found. The Legionella bacteria thrive in warm water systems, especially in air conditioning units, fountains, and hot tubs.
