Misa Hylton responds to video of Diddy assaulting Cassie: ‘I know exactly how she feels’

[ad_1]

Misa Hylton, the mother of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ eldest son, spoke out on Tuesday following the release of security video showing Combs assaulting his ex-girlfriend, singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura.

Hylton, who shares 30-year-old son Justin Combs with Diddy, released a statement on Instagram about the 2016 video, which shows Diddy kicking, dragging, and throwing Ventura at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles. The mogul’s action in the video match allegations Ventura made against Diddy in a now-settled 2023 lawsuit

“I am heartbroken that Cassie must relive the horror of her abuse, and my heart goes out to her,” Hylton wrote alongside images of Diddy’s sons Justin Combs, Quincy Brown and Christian Combs, and his daughters Chance Combs, D’Lila Combs, Jessie Combs, and Love Combs. “I know exactly how she feels, and through my empathy, it has triggered my own trauma.”

“These young people were raised by women that want the best for them – we put God and education first and have always been united in our mutual effort to support their dreams,” she added. “Two of the youngest do not have their mother here and it has been our duty to support them.”

“Their father needs help and I am praying that he truly does the personal work and receives it,” Hylton concluded.

Diddy apologized for his actions in a video posted to Instagram after CNN published the footage on May 18. The mogul said he was “truly sorry” for the assault that he claims occurred during “the darkest times” in his life.

“I was f—ed up. I mean I hit rock bottom but I make no excuses,” Diddy said. “My behavior on that video is inexcusable. Disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now. I went and I sought out professional help, going to therapy, going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry, but I’m committed to be a better man. Each and every day.”

Ventura’s lawyer Meredith Firetog, partner at Wigdor LLP, condemned Diddy’s apology in a statement to People.

“Combs’ most recent statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt,” Firetog said. “When Cassie and multiple other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested that his victims were looking for a payday.”

“That he was only compelled to ‘apologize’ once his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation,” she added, “and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words.”

Diddy has been accused of sexual assault by multiple people in several lawsuits since Ventura filed her legal action against him in November 2023, according to Forbes. In her filing, Ventura accused him of numerous offenses, including rape, sex trafficking, emotional and physical abuse.

Resurfaced Video of Justin Bieber and P. Diddy Sparks Questions

[ad_1]

Sean “Diddy” Combs has been in the blazing spotlight for months now following a scathing sexual abuse lawsuit filed by singer Cassie and the even more recent footage of him appearing to assault her in a hotel hallway.

Since the assault video in particular, the internet has analyzed Diddy’s relationship with music artists who have worked with the rap mogul — among them Justin Bieber. A now viral Instagram post of an undated video off Diddy and Bieber reads, “They saying Diddy appears to be checking Justin Bieber to see if he’s wearing a wire.”

In the clip, Bieber is seen standing alongside Diddy on what appears to be a golf course. Diddy daps Bieber and holds on to his shoulder as he continues talking to him. Diddy appears to tap Bieber repeatedly on the chest and torso and places his hand on his chest before pulling Bieber in for a hug.

Users in the comment section wonder how Diddy and Bieber even became involved with one another in the first place.

Well, How are The Two Related Anyway?

We can trace their relationship back to young Bieber’s campaign to get connected with Diddy in 2009. Fans helped the pop star get Diddy’s attention resulting in the since-resurfaced video of Bieber’s “48 Hours” with the rapper.

JUSTIN BIEBER’s 48 HRS with DIDDY!!

“They’re having the times of their lives, like where we hanging out and what we’re doing we can’t really disclose. But it’s definitely a 15-year-old’s dream,” said Diddy in the video. “I have been given custody of him. You know, he’s signed to Usher and I had legal guardianship of Usher when he did his first album. I did Usher’s first album.”

The two were spotted together again in 2010 when Bieber was seen driving Diddy’s white Lamborghini, according to celebrity blog PinkVilla. In the Season 13 of American Idol, the two served as panel judges, per RadarOnline. Celebrated Usher’s 35th birthday together, per E! Magazine.

After his DUI arrest, Bieber was spotted at Diddy’s tequila launch party in Atlanta where singer Cassie was present, per US Weekly Magazine. Bieber was invited to Justin Combs’ 21st birthday back in 2015 where he was seen sharing drinks with Diddy, per TMZ. Then, during Bieber’s 21st birthday party, Diddy did the honors of giving the singer his first shot of alcohol.

Bieber also made it as a feature on Diddy’s latest album “The Love Album: Off The Grid” which dropped last September.

“I remember going to my brother Diddy’s office to pitch him a song I wrote for him when I was like 14, sadly the song was trash haha and it would be a no hard for him, Fast forward to a few years ago, Puff asked if I would freestyle something for his upcoming love album. Wild full circle moment, love you @diddy.” Bieber said in a social media post following the album drop.

Bieber hasn’t spoken publicly about the slew of sexual abuse and trafficking claims that have risen against Diddy. He also hasn’t appeared to ever speak in detail about his connection with the Hip-Hop giant outside of being the collaborator of his dreams.

If you leave it to the internet, they’ll make their own conclusion on what’s up between the two.

Despite the high-profile trial and extensive media coverage, no other suspects have been brought to justice, and the case remains unsolved.

2. The Black Dahlia

In 1947, the mutilated body of 22-year-old Elizabeth Short, known as “The Black Dahlia,” was found in Los Angeles. Her body was severed at the waist and drained of blood, with a haunting smile carved into her face. Despite numerous suspects and sensational media coverage, the identity of her killer remains a mystery, and the case is one of Los Angeles’ oldest unsolved murders.

3. Jack the Ripper

In 1888, London’s Whitechapel district was terrorized by Jack the Ripper, who brutally murdered and mutilated at least five women. Despite an exhaustive investigation, the killer’s identity remains unknown. Theories have ranged from local butchers and doctors to members of the British royal family, but no conclusive evidence has ever surfaced.

4. The Somerton Beach Body

In 1948, an unidentified man was found dead on Somerton Beach in Adelaide, Australia. The man, impeccably dressed with no identification and a cryptic note in his pocket reading “Tamám Shud” (“it has ended”), left investigators puzzled. Despite extensive efforts, including international inquiries and attempts to decode a mysterious message found with his belongings, the man’s identity and cause of death remain unknown.

5. D. B. Cooper

On November 24, 1971, a man using the alias Dan Cooper hijacked a plane, extorted $200,000 in ransom, and then parachuted from the aircraft, disappearing without a trace. The case remains one of the most enduring unsolved crimes in U.S. history.

6. The Zodiac Killer

The Zodiac Killer terrorized Northern California in the late 1960s and early 1970s, claiming to have killed 37 people, though only five confirmed victims are attributed to him. He taunted police with cryptic letters and ciphers, some of which remain unsolved. Despite numerous suspects and extensive investigations, the Zodiac Killer was never caught, and his identity remains unknown.

7. The Murder of Tupac Shakur

Rapper Tupac Shakur was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996. Despite being a high-profile case with several theories pointing to possible suspects, no arrests have been made. The investigation was hampered by a lack of cooperation from witnesses and potential gang connections. Tupac’s murder remains one of the most notorious unsolved crimes in the music industry.

8. The Sodder Children Disappearance

On Christmas Eve 1945, a fire destroyed the Sodder family home in West Virginia. Five of the Sodder children disappeared and were presumed dead, but no remains were found in the ashes. Despite numerous sightings and theories suggesting the children were kidnapped, their fate remains unknown. The family maintained a billboard with their pictures for decades, seeking answers that never came.

9. The Circleville Letters

Beginning in 1976, residents of Circleville, Ohio, received threatening letters accusing individuals of various wrongdoings. The letters led to a series of mysterious events, including a suspicious death and an attempted murder. Despite the conviction of Paul Freshour, the letters continued, and their true author remains unknown. The Circleville Letters case is still an enigma, with many believing the real culprit was never caught.

10. The Disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa

On July 30, 1975, union leader Jimmy Hoffa vanished outside the Machus Red Fox restaurant in Michigan. Despite extensive investigations and numerous theories linking his disappearance to organized crime, Hoffa’s fate remains a mystery. His body has never been found, and no one has been charged in connection with his disappearance, leaving one of America’s most famous cold cases unsolved.

These unsolved crimes continue to fascinate the public, inspiring books, movies, and countless theories. Despite advances in forensic science and ongoing investigations, the mysteries surrounding these cases persist, ensuring their place in the annals of criminal history.

[ad_1]

Ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics and amid its 65th-anniversary celebration, Barbie is honoring some of the world’s most elite female athletes. On Wednesday, the brand revealed its latest collection of Barbie Role Models, created in the likeness of nine women “who have broken boundaries to encourage girls to stay in sports and recognize their full potential,” according to a release from parent company Mattel.

Among the nine “trailblazing” athletes celebrated with one-of-a-kind dolls is tennis icon and four-time Olympic gold medalist Venus Williams, the first female tennis player to earn equal prize money at Wimbledon and a pioneer for Black women in the sport. Fittingly, Wiiliams posed alongside her Barbie — both dressed in tennis whites — on the court as she showed off her latest triumph on Instagram.

In addition to Williams, dolls have been created in the likenesses of top international scoring soccer player Christine Sinclair of Canada; Australian FIFA World Cup football player Mary Fowler; French boxer and 2016 Olympic champion Estelle Mossely; Mexico’s first female world medaling gymnast Alexa Moreno; Olympic gold and silver medalist Rebeca Andrade of Brazil; Spanish doctor and para-triathlon athlete Susana Rodriguez; record-breaking Italian Olympic champion swimmer Federica Pellegrini, and top-ranked Polish track and field sprinter Ewa Swoboda.

The platform will offer free virtual mentoring sessions for girls in sports ages 12 and up with this cohort of Barbie Role Models into 2025. This initiative is the latest contribution to the ongoing Barbie Dream Gap Project, which cites recent research from The Girls’ Index in explaining the importance of sports during girls’ formative years.

“Knowing that girls involved in team sports are more likely to believe they are smart enough for their dream career, have high opinions on their abilities and competencies, increased leadership aspirations and enjoy higher levels of self-confidence, Barbie is bringing together these inspiring stories that are shaping the future to show girls that anything is possible if you relentlessly pursue your passions,” read the release shared with theGrio.

By shining a light on these inspirational athletes and their stories, we hope to champion the belief that every young girl deserves the opportunity to pursue her passions and turn her dreams into reality.”

Lil Nas X Country Era Should’ve been Well Received Like Beyonce

Though its been some years since we yee’d our haws and eased on down Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” it seems as if he’s grateful to have played his part and paved the way for others like Beyonce and country rapper (also featured on Bey’s Cowboy Carter album) Shaboozey.

Speaking in a new interview with the BBC, the Montero rapper reflected on his popular country song with Billy Ray Cyrus and the negative backlash he initially received when he branched out. As for where he stands on Bey, Shaboozey and other Black artists who are now taking over the genre, Nas X said that he’s “happy for them” but that “I wish this would have happened for me. I wasn’t even able to experience this.”

And he’s correct on that. In fact, “Old Town Road” was so ill-received, Billboard took the song off their country music charts—never mind the fact that it was the fastest song in 2019 to reach Diamond status and sell out 10 million copies.

“Upon further review, it was determined that ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X does not currently merit inclusion on Billboard‘s country charts. When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is musical composition. While ‘Old Town Road’ incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version,” a statement from them read at the time.

“Today’s country music” seems like a loaded statement in hindsight now, huh?

Regardless of that fact, it doesn’t seem like he’s bitter from the success of his peers. Not wanting to show any signs of beef or jealousy, the “Scoop” rapper responded back to a Rolling Stone article about his words and clarified:

“You don’t have take me out of context and paint me as bitter rolling stone. i said im proud and happy for them while i also wish i wasn’t removed from the chart.. especially now that country has more trap/rap influences than ever.”

Delta Sigma Theta Sorors Donate Personal Care Kits to Unhoused Veterans in Hawaii

[ad_1]

The sorors of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. are kicking off their 54th Farwest Regional Conference today in Hawaii by donating personal care kits to the unhoused veterans of O’ahu.

This will be part of their IMPACT Day of Service at the Hawaii Convention Center. First initiated in 2010, IMPACT Day is a one-day community service event, where chapters throughout each region of the sorority organize and work together on the same project on the same day to heighten awareness about a pressing social issue.

“This year, the Farwest Region’s IMPACT Day will target the plight of homelessness among U.S. veterans on O’ahu. The predominately African American sorority is partnering with U.S. VETS to assemble and distribute personal care kits to local veterans in need,” the Farwest Region of the sorority stated in a press release. “From 2015 to 2022, Hawaii decreased its number of homeless veterans by 50%, largely due to the initiatives of U.S. VETS, the leading non-profit organization dedicated to helping veterans and their families transition from homelessness to independence through tailored support programs. These efforts must continue and, as a premier service sorority, members of Delta Sigma Theta are ready to use IMPACT Day to make a difference through tangible service.”

“Service and impact are paramount to who we are as members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Since our founding in 1913, we have always been at the forefront of advocating for human rights and giving back to the communities that we serve,” Farwest Regional Director, Kimberly M. Usher said. “It is our intention that IMPACT Day in Honolulu will provide needed support and hope for our homeless veterans. The Farwest Region strives to be responsive in all that we do and, with the large number of military families on O’ahu, it is critical that we leave our mark by embracing the ‘Aloha Spirit’ and contributing to improving the lives of those who bravely served our country.”

The Farwest Region of Delta Sigma Theta consists of members from over 97 chapters in 9 states and 2 countries, including Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Japan, and Korea.

The 54th Farwest Regional Conference will take place from May 22 – 26, 2024 at the Hawaii Convention Center.

I love Michael Eric Dyson, but his analysis of Kendrick versus Drake is way off

[ad_1]

Editor’s note: The following article is an op-ed, and the views expressed are the author’s own. Read more opinions on theGrio.

I love Michael Eric Dyson like an uncle. He’s been a real friend for many years, but when he goes on “The Breakfast Club” and says blasphemous stuff about hip-hop, I gotta pull out my sword and go to work. I just texted him and told him what I was about to do here. He gets it. In academia, they show each other respect by attacking each other’s ideas. So this should be what he’s used to.

Dyson has thought and written a lot about hip-hop — he’s done books on Tupac and Jay-Z — and he genuinely loves the culture. But we all make mental mistakes sometimes, even when we’re one of the great public intellectuals of our time.

Dyson went on “The Breakfast Club” and said, “I think Kendrick Lamar, in many ways, is Pac as he was.” Fine. OK. “Drake and J Cole is Pac as he could’ve been.” I just vomited in my mouth. “And that’s the clash.” What the what?

First off, funk your girl and the clique you claim. I’m just playing with the first part — I love Dyson’s wife Marcia; she’s a truly wonderful person — but I had to actually invoke Pac and the spirit of battling to get into Dyson’s so-called analysis here. Dyson goes on to say Pac was one of the great intellectuals in the history of hip-hop — that’s true — and a more mature (i.e., older) Pac would say, “You ain’t got to kill everybody.” Huh?

Dyson still thinks the battle springs from “First Person Shooter” and Cole saying there’s a big three as if this is all about Kendrick’s misplaced bravado. As if Kendrick’s main message is “How dare you say there’s a big three, I’m the sole great here!” I think we get a clue what’s really going on here when we look at “Euphoria,” where Kendrick says, “This ain’t been about critics, not about gimmicks, not about who’s the greatest. It’s always been about love and hate now let me tell you I’m the biggest hater …” He’s saying I hate Drake. This isn’t about who’s a better MC, this isn’t about the big three line. It’s that I hate Drake.

Recommended Stories

This was never about “First Person Shooter.” Kendrick and Drake have been talking about each other in subliminals for over a decade. This battle been brewing. It stemmed from Kendrick’s longstanding disgust with who Drake is. Dot’s sense of hip-hop purity clearly clashes with Drizzy’s commercial rap cuteness. This is a sort of righteous war for the soul of hip-hop that Kendrick has wanted for a while.

But more than that, as I’ve discussed, Pac is a central character in this beef so to say his legacy is somehow shared by both Kendrick and Drake is a bizarre bothsidesism that makes my skin crawl. Kendrick is absolutely the heir to Pac’s legacy as a California-loving, revolutionary-spewing hyperauthentic MC. Drake, on the other hand, is nowhere near what Pac would’ve evolved into unless you see old Pac turning into old Elvis — fat and bedazzled and selling out his legacy in Vegas. My God, to say Pac would have become like Drake in any way is a fingernails-on-the-chalkboard sort of idea. Drake is the opposite of everything Pac was about.

Pac was about Black liberation. His music was quite often political. He was an intellectual. He was commercially successful in spite of himself — he would’ve hated Drake and the whole idea of a pop rapper who’s focused on parties and women. The crux of the battle was that Kendrick is the heir to Pac’s throne while Drake is so pathetic at comprehending the nuances of African-American culture that he thought that using Tupac AI would be funny or clever. It was neither. Kendrick emerged in all of this as the defender of Pac and, with that, the defender of the soul of hip-hop. He’s the one saying, hey, you own Pac’s ring, that’s gross, I’ll pay any price to stop that and keep Pac from turning in his grave. Kendrick was saying while you have enough money to buy the culture, only I have enough harmony with the culture to create a Tupac-ish song. “Not Like Us” is a hyphy-inspired beat, it’s an Oakland-sounding record. Kendrick finished Drake off with a nod to Tupac’s adopted hometown. That’s how deeply in harmony he is with Pac and his legacy.

My God, if Pac had grown into his 50s and become like Drake, I would have to agree with Questlove that hip-hop is dead. But I do not agree with Quest that hip-hop is not dead. I need my man Professor Dyson to come back with some new ideas because the ideas you spat on “The Breakfast Club” were like the intellectual version of “The Heart Part 6” — something that I hope never to hear again.
