Simone Biles Has Message for Trolls Speaking on Her Marriage

It looks like the holy matrimony between Simone Biles and her husband Jonathan Owens is continuing to be tried by hateration and mockery by online trolls. I’ll explain.

Ever since Owens explained how he thought he was the catch in their relationship and admitted to not knowing who Biles was before they dated (never mind the fact that she was a whole Olympic gold medal winner), jokes have flown all over the internet with many dubbing him “Mr. Simone Biles” in an attempt to lowkey put him in his place.

Well, it seems the joke hasn’t and still isn’t going over too well in their household, as Biles took to social media to express her frustration over the tired jabs.

“I’m going to quickly address this, the joke was never a joke! Y’all are blatantly being disrespectful to my relationship & my husband,” she said in an since-expired Instagram story post on Monday. “So I’m gonna go ahead and say this one time. Respectfully, f**k off. & if you keep commenting or tweeting at me I’m just going to block you. Simple as that. And no, I don’t need to touch grass or whatever tf y’all suggest. @ everyone else that supports us, we love y’all so much.”

Added Owens in a repost to his own Insta-stories: “If y’all gone support, support! If not, respectfully keep scrolling. Cause being fake mad about people y’all don’t know from a can of paint is weirdo behavior.”

On the one hand, I can understand their frustration. We don’t know the true ins and outs of their relationship and Biles has repeatedly had to defend Owens against naysayers.

But on the flipside, Alexis Ohanian — co-founder of Reddit and multi-millionaire who also happens to be married to another Olympic gold medalist Serena Williams — has no problem being referred to as “Mr. Serena Williams” and has come to embrace it.

Likewise, if the roles were reversed — as they often are during the end of a wedding ceremony — and people were calling Biles “Mrs. Jonathan Owens,” I doubt there’d be any uproar within their household or online. So why is it that this really has them both up in arms?

Wendy Williams’ New York penthouse sells at a loss

[ad_1]

A chapter in Wendy Williams’ life has come to a close. A New York penthouse owned by the former host of “The Wendy Williams Show” in Manhattan’s Financial District has just sold, reportedly at a loss.

Williams’ three-bedroom, three-bath penthouse sold on May 10 for $3.75 million, significantly down $822,000 from the $4.5 million Williams originally paid for the apartment in July 2021, according to property records obtained by the New York Post. The sale was conducted by Williams’ court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, the only person who continues to have unrestricted access to the TV personality.

While details surrounding Williams’ present financial circumstance have not been made public, according to documents obtained by People magazine, a $568,451.57 lien was placed against the condo as part of a larger tax liability between 2019 and 2021.

This sale comes several months after it was revealed by Williams’ team that the former radio and talk show host was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia (PPA) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in 2023 and is presently living in a care facility.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, primary progressive aphasia is a neurological disorder that impacts the part of the brain that controls speech and language. Meanwhile, according to the National Institutes of Health, frontotemporal dementia is caused by a group of disorders that gradually damage the brain’s frontal and temporal lobes. Williams’ condition also impacts Black people at disproportionate rates.

The former radio and talk show host, whose daytime talk show came to an end in 2022 after 13 seasons, has been under legal guardianship since May 2022. Two years prior, in May 2020, she was found unresponsive in her apartment by “The Wendy Williams Show” deejay, DJ Boof, though it is unclear where she was residing at the time. She was then rushed to the hospital, where she received blood transfusions. In addition to her PPA and FTD, Williams has also been diagnosed and struggles with the autoimmune disorder Graves’ disease

After her dementia diagnosis was made public, Williams released a statement to People magazine thanking the public, which has largely been supportive, for their support.

“Let me say, wow! Your response has been overwhelming. The messages shared with me have touched me, reminding me of the power of unity and the need for compassion.”

“I hope that others with FTD may benefit from my story. I want to also thank the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration for their kind words of support and their extraordinary efforts to raise awareness of FTD,” Williams added. “I continue to need personal space and peace to thrive. Please just know that your positivity and encouragement are deeply appreciated.”

Earlier this year, Lifetime released a controversial docuseries, “Where Is Wendy Williams?” The series chronicled the media personality’s life between August 2022 and April 2023. Fans contested the series as exploitative, and it increased the public’s scrutiny of Williams’ well-being.

Prime Video Unveils Official Trailer for New Romantasy Series “My Lady Jane” – Where Is The Buzz

[ad_1]

Prime Video released the official trailer for “My Lady Jane,” an upcoming swashbuckling romantasy series set in an alternate fantasy version of Tudor England. The highly anticipated show will premiere with all eight episodes available on Thursday, June 27, 2024.

Based on the best-selling novel, “My Lady Jane” offers a radical reimagining of English royal history. This fantastical tale diverges from the tragic fates of historical figures: King Henry VIII’s son Edward survives his illness, Lady Jane Grey escapes her grim end, and her roguish husband Guildford Dudley avoids execution. The series centers on the sharp-witted and resilient Jane, who is astonished to find herself crowned queen and targeted by various villainous plots aiming for her crown and her life. It promises to be an epic saga filled with true love and thrilling adventures.

Emily Bader, a fresh face, stars in the titular role of Jane Grey. Edward Bluemel, known for “Killing Eve,” plays Guildford Dudley, while Jordan Peters from “Pirates” takes on the role of King Edward. The cast also includes Dominic Cooper (“Preacher”) as Lord Seymour, Anna Chancellor (“Pennyworth”) as Lady Frances Grey, and Rob Brydon (“The Trip”) as Lord Dudley. The legendary Jim Broadbent (“The Duke”) portrays the Duke of Leicester, Jane’s uncle.

Additional cast members include Henry Ashton (“Outlander”) as Stan Dudley, Isabella Brownson (“Napoleon”) and Robyn Betteridge (“Wheel of Time”) as Jane’s sisters, and Kate O’Flynn (“Landscapers”) and Abbie Hern (“Enola Holmes 2”) as Princess Mary and Princess Bess, the King’s sisters. The series also features Máiréad Tyers, Joe Klocek, and Michael Workeye.

The creative force behind “My Lady Jane” includes co-showrunners and executive producers Gemma Burgess, known for the “Brooklyn Girls” trilogy, and Meredith Glynn from “The Boys.” Executive producers Laurie MacDonald (“Men In Black,” “Gladiator”) and Sarah Bradshaw (“The Mummy,” HBO’s upcoming “The Hedge Knight”) bring their expertise to the series. Jamie Babbit (“Only Murders in the Building,” “But I’m A Cheerleader”) directs five of the eight episodes, serving as producing director and executive producer.

Fans of alternate history and romantic fantasy can look forward to “My Lady Jane” offering a blend of historical intrigue, romance, and swashbuckling action, coming soon to Prime Video.

Diddy’s Path To Redemption Is Nearly Impossible

[ad_1]

After CNN released footage of Sean “Diddy” Combs violently assaulting ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in a hotel in 2016, there was a refrain that he was finished. The artist/mogul’s legal future is still up in the air, with various lawsuits still pending against him.

But it seems like his public reputation is finished.

This isn’t always the case with Black celebrities. There are plenty of examples of celebrities who have been able to maintain their success. Chris Brown may have a certain ceiling, but he’s continued to satisfy a loyal fan base despite assaulting Rihanna and having other, less visible cases that followed.

Basketball star Derrick Rose escaped a rape case in 2015 and had fans lauding him three years later when he had a 50-point game. Dr. Dre allegedly violently assaulted women in the 1990s, and he’s weathered the storm enough to even have a new Grammy Award named after him.

Many who have been found guilty of crimes such as sexual assault or domestic violence — whether legally or in the public eye — have been able to redeem themselves through a combination of silence, contrition, and continued quality of whatever product made fans fall in love with them in the first place. It’s all about the veneer of honesty and repentance, followed by art that’s so powerful that people can’t deprive themselves of it. Or, if there’s no proof of the crimes being committed, simply staying out of the public eye before returning with some of their best work.

But Combs’ journey toward public forgiveness is uniquely difficult for two reasons: because of damning video footage and because that footage surfaced after he had already begun the sort of rebranding campaign that allows so many to build themselves back up: In recent years he had taken on several strategic steps toward helping his image: adopting the moniker “Love,” releasing an R&B album loaded with guest appearances by other stars and returning masters ownership to artists who were previously signed to his label Bad Boy. There was still skepticism, but they were still steps in the right direction.

Shortly after Cassie and three others issued explosive lawsuits accusing him of crimes such as rape, sex trafficking, sexual misconduct with minors and more, he released a statement that denied all wrongdoing, with no concessions.

“Enough is enough,” he wrote in a December post. “I have sat silently and watched people try to assassinate my character, destroy my reputation and legacy… Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged.”

By spring 2024, Combs had already begun to lose all that he’d worked for, with his many corporate partners cutting ties. But he still may have had a chance at redemption. Some supporters may have chosen not to believe the allegations at all, adopting one or more of many methods of plausible deniability. They may have claimed that these were simply people going after a payday, that they “knew what they were getting into” by dealing with him, or that this was another example of powers that be corralling in an attempt to take down a Black man who had made it.

Even if people hadn’t believed his denials, they could have convinced themselves that he had changed. Had he stayed out of the public eye and continued his safe, sporadic posts about his family, there would have still been a substantial amount of people who refused to support him, but there also could have been people who came back around.

But the footage from the hotel changed things, because it put his duplicity in such clear and undeniable terms. The video directly corroborated one of the stories that Ventura said in her filing…stories that Combs had denied. Had this video been released upon the time of the lawsuits, he could have apologized, retreated, and returned after extended time away.

But a dismal attempt at accountability after he’s already so clearly lied won’t be enough. It’ll be difficult to forget such damning footage of him assaulting a woman who we so clearly recognize, and even more difficult to reconcile such adamant denials with the truth that we saw. Add that to the repeated memes and catchphrases against him, and the damage could be permanent.

Less than a week before the video surfaced, Combs made a post that read “time tells truth.” Unfortunately for him, it looks like that’s exactly what happened.

Diddy’s music streams drop, Peloton pauses use of his music following assault video

[ad_1]

U.S. catalog streams of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ music have plummeted following the release of security video footage showing the music mogul assaulting his ex-girlfriend, singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura.

There has been a 51.8% decrease for songs under his stage name Diddy — from 2,624,000 streams to 1,265,000 streams — when comparing streams during the first week in December 2023 to the week of May 16, according to music tracking company Luminate as reported in The Hollywood Reporter

Under the stage name Puff Daddy, there was a 48.3% decrease from 1,359,000 streams to 703,000 streams, according to THR.

Amid Combs’ decrease in streams, assault allegations, and the security video, Peloton announced that the company has “paused the use” of the rapper-producer’s music, according to People. The fitness brand shared their decision on Tuesday after a fan expressed concern in a private Peloton Facebook group, saying, “Dear Peloton, Your next purge needs to be all Diddy classes. Signed, women everywhere.”

Peloton responded to the comment on Facebook, telling the group member that the company takes “this issue very seriously.”

“[We] can confirm Peloton has paused the use of Sean Combs’ music, as well as removed the Bad Boy Entertainment Artist Series, on our platform,” a spokesperson wrote on the platform per People. “This means our instructors are no longer using his music in any newly produced classes. Again, thank you for sharing your concerns and thank you for being a member of our Peloton community.”

The backlash against Combs’ music comes just a few days after CNN released a video showing the hip-hop mogul kicking, dragging, shoving, and manhandling Ventura at the Intercontinental Hotel in Los Angeles in 2016. Combs’ issued an apology for his actions in the video, which displays behavior Ventura detailed in a now-settled 2023 lawsuit in which she accused Combs of rape, sex trafficking, emotional and physical abuse during their decades-long relationship.

“It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life,” Combs said in the apology video posted to Instagram. “Sometimes you gotta do that. I was f—– up. I mean, I hit rock bottom but I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. Disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now.”

Combs went on to say that he “sought out professional help, going to therapy, going to rehab.”

“I had to ask God for his mercy and grace,” Diddy concluded. “I’m so sorry, but I’m committed to be a better man. Each and every day.”

Ventura’s lawyer, Meredith Firetog, partner at Wigdor LLP, responded to Combs’ apology on Monday, saying his statement is more about “himself than the many people he has hurt.”

“When Cassie and multiple other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested that his victims were looking for a payday,” Firetog said. “That he was only compelled to ‘apologize’ once his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation,” she added, “and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words.”

Multiple people have accused Combs of sexual assault since Ventura filed her lawsuit in November 2023, according to Forbes. He has previously denied all the allegations.

Family Files Lawsuit For Black Teen Who Was Wrongly Cnvicted

[ad_1]

Image for article titled A Black Teen Was Wrongly Executed Nearly 100 Years Ago. His Family is Still Seeking Justice.

In 1931, 16-year-old Alexander McClay Williams was sentenced to death in Pennsylvania for the 1930 murder of his teacher. He was executed six months after his convictions. The victim, judge, and jury in his case were all white.

In October 2022, 91 years after he was executed, Williams was posthumously exonerated after his family and their legal representatives were able to prove that he was never responsible for his teacher’s murder and that his case was an example of racial profiling. All the charges against him were dismissed.

According to ABC 6, Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said Williams was ”browbeaten” into giving a confession and was executed before being given the chance to appeal.

On Monday, the Williams family took another step to ensure that justice is served by filing a lawsuit against Delaware County and the estates of the detectives and prosecutors involved in the case, according to NBC News.

The family is claiming that their conduct was “outrageous, malicious, wanton, willful, reckless and intentionally designed to inflict harm.”

More from NBC News:

Willams — who was Black — was convicted after 34-year-old Vida Robare — who was white and was a house matron at the Glen Mills School for Boys — was found murdered inside her cottage on the school grounds on October 3, 1930. Her body was discovered by her ex-husband Fred Robare, who was also an employee at the school.

Williams was arrested and charged with stabbing Robare 47 times.

However, there were no witnesses to the crime and Williams was never seen at the scene. Instead, prosecutors relied on confessions that were coerced out of the 16-year-old Williams.

The Williams family is seeking compensatory and punitive damages along with a statement that the practices of the prosecution and detectives was “unconstitutional.”

‘Clown!’: Fani Willis continues to clap back at Republicans, vows she won’t be ‘broken’

[ad_1]

Fani Willis, the Fulton County district attorney prosecuting Donald Trump, is continuing clapping back at Republicans aligned with the former president as she presses on with her criminal election interference case against the indicted presidential candidate.

“I’m not someone that’s going to be broken,” said the 52-year-old progressive prosecutor during a Monday evening interview on MSNBC. She told host Rachel Maddow that she is not backing down amid federal and statewide investigations lodged by Republicans and numerous death threats.

Rather than quit, Willis, who is seeking reelection in a primary on Tuesday, said the obstacles she faces from conservatives have made her develop “thicker skin,” be “more resilient,” and “dig deeper” in her pursuit of justice.

“It doesn’t do anything but motivate me to continue to work and to work hard,” she said.

Willis became a household name when she launched a criminal probe into Trump and his allies for their alleged efforts to overturn the state’s results in the 2020 presidential election. On Aug. 14, 2023, she officially charged them with various felonies, including conspiracy to commit election fraud.

Since then, Georgia Republicans on the state level created a special committee charged with investigating local prosecutors. Critics say the group’s sole purpose was to retaliate against Willis.

“Apparently, we now need Daddy to tell us how to do our job,” Willis said Monday of the legislative scrutiny, which she argued was the result of voters electing 14 minority district attorneys.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis speaks during a news conference at the Fulton County Government building on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2023, in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Joshua Lott/The Washington Post via Getty Images)

Similarly, the Georgia Senate formed a committee to investigate allegations of legal and ethical misconduct related to Willis’ past relationship with the Trump case’s former appointed special prosecutor, Nathan Wade. It is not against Georgia law for a district attorney to be romantically involved with an appointee.

Kendra Cotton, CEO of the New Georgia Project Action Fund, told theGrio that Georgia Republicans’ focus on prosecutors in the metro Atlanta area – which is largely Black and brown – implies that “surely [the prosecutors] aren’t following the rules as they should, when in fact, when you do see improprieties in our state, they tend to be in more conservative, less sparsely populated areas.”

Willis dismissed the Republicans’ probes, maintaining, “They have decided to follow this clown’s lead, and they want to now try to interfere in an investigation,” referring to U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.

Jordan, a close Trump ally, opened up a federal investigation of Willis and demanded her office turn over documents related to its funding.

“Jim Jordan has time after time after time, attacked my office with no legitimate purpose,” said Willis. “Anyone who knows Jim Jordan’s history knows that he only has the purpose of trying to interfere in a criminal investigation.”

The Fulton County DA called out the congressman for not tending to his own Ohio district, which has “one of the worst crime rates” and “poverty issues.”

“What DA Willis saying is … you don’t reside in any of Georgia’s 159 counties, so what are you over here in my backyard, trying to tell me that my grass is too high? Worry about yours,” said Cotton. “He is trying to weaponize his power against this duly elected official in the state of Georgia, all because his friend is being prosecuted.”

Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) delivers his opening statement as former Special Counsel Robert K. Hur investigated U.S. President Joe Biden’s mishandling of classified documents and published a final report with contentious conclusions about Biden’s memory. (Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)

Cotton said it was ironic that Republicans claim Trump’s ongoing criminal case is the result of an unfair legal system when Black and brown communities who said the same for years have been told to “believe in the judicial system.”

“But now, all of a sudden, it’s unfair — because it’s Trump,” she argued. “Let the judicial system work. That’s what you’ve been telling us all this time.”

Willis also opened up about the numerous death threats she has received while in office as a result of her prosecution of Trump.

“Those threats come in the way of emails, or threats come in the way of phone calls. Text messages, any which way you can imagine,” shared Willis, who now maintains a 24-year security detail.

“It’s a very interesting way to live, but it’s well worth it to have the honor of being the first female district attorney in Fulton County,” she said.

Cotton noted that threats of physical violence are a decades-old tactic to “deter people from wanting to serve in public office, and particularly Black women.”

“If I’m looking at Stacey Abrams. If I’m looking at DA Willis … I’m like, ‘Man, I don’t want to be fooling with that mess’ … this has been going on since the days of Fannie Lou Hamer,” she said.

Willis said aside from her prosecution of Trump, conservatives are bothered by the work of her office because she has been successful at her job.

“I have the third-largest crime drop in America. We have it because we’re taking a balanced approach,” she explained. Willis maintained her office is “unapologetically going after gangs and violent criminals and anyone who should violate the law in my county.” However, she added that the DA’s office is also running programs to help defendants rehabilitate.

Ultimately, Willis remains undeterred and is determined to press on. “It has been a huge sacrifice,” she said, “but it’s well worth it for my community.”

Diddy Faces New Lawsuit: Former Model Crystal McKinney Claims Drugging and Sexual Assault – Where Is The Buzz

[ad_1]

Sean “Diddy” Combs is again in the legal crosshairs as another lawsuit emerges against the disgraced music mogul. Former model Crystal McKinney has filed a suit claiming Combs lured her with promises of career advancement, only to subject her to a harrowing ordeal.

According to the lawsuit obtained by TMZ, McKinney, then 22, was invited to a Men’s Fashion Week event at Cipriani Downtown in NYC in 2003. She recounts meeting Combs at the event, inviting her to his studio. Shortly after arriving, McKinney claims that Combs and several colleagues were consuming Hennessy and smoking joints. When she took a hit from a joint, she felt an immediate and intense effect, suspecting it had been laced with an unknown drug.

McKinney claims that Combs then coerced her into a bathroom, where he allegedly forced himself on her. She describes a terrifying encounter where he began kissing her and forcibly pushed her head towards his crotch, demanding oral sex. Despite her initial refusal, she alleges Combs overpowered her, forcing her to comply.

Following this incident, McKinney says she attempted to leave but soon felt dizzy and lost consciousness. She awoke in a taxi, disoriented, and realized she had been sexually assaulted. The lawsuit does not specify whether this refers solely to the forced oral sex or another act that might have occurred while she was unconscious.

The aftermath of this alleged incident was devastating for McKinney. She claims she was blackballed from the modeling industry, spiraling into severe depression which led to a suicide attempt in 2004.

McKinney states that recent news of lawsuits filed by other women, including Cassie, against Combs, prompted her to come forward. “I knew I had a moral obligation to speak up,” she says.

This lawsuit adds to the growing list of accusations against Combs, who has faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse. His representatives have not yet commented on McKinney’s claims. As these legal battles unfold, the scrutiny on Combs intensifies, casting a shadow over his once-celebrated career.

Supermodel Anok Yai Calls Out Racist Zara Photog from 2019

[ad_1]

It’s unfortunate thing when racism and colorism surface on any occasion, but it’s especially heinous when they show up in the workplace.

That’s exactly what happened to supermodel Anok Yai, who recently recalled an unfortunate incident with a disrespectful photographer in her early days of modeling. In a series of since deleted tweets, Yai explained that was working on a campaign for Zara, which had booked a photographer that didn’t speak English. She alleged that on the second to last day of shooting, the photographer insulted her.

“Who wants to hear a story?” Yai, 26, began. “I remember in 2019 being called a cockroach by a photographer. It was from this brand that I used to always work with. I didn’t speak their language and they didn’t speak mine but regardless we were on set shooting look after look after look. (there were days I shot 60+ looks)”

She continued:

“On the 2nd to last day, the makeup artist starts powdering my face and the photographer puts his camera down and yells ‘Lotion la cucaracha’ Everyone on set starts smiling and laughing. I can’t react the way I want to react because at the end of the day I’m young, I’m alone, I’m black … anything that I do will affect me, my family, and other black models.

The next morning I refuse to go on set if the photographer is still there. Someone from the team calls me and says ‘we don’t accept that type of behavior, we’ll fire him now. Tell me who he is and we’ll get rid of him.’ I go to set thinking he’s gonna be gone. He walks by me and smiles.”

Yai then goes onto say that another member of the team gaslighted her, alleging that she made the whole thing up and proceeded to speak negatively about her presence on the set. That resulted in her crying, leaving the set, and staying silent due to fear of retribution.

“I remember wanting to come out with the story to magazines but I was told “think about what it will do to your career. That was my first (and not only) time being blacklisted. I’m sure they thought I wasn’t strong enough to stand. But anyways… Hi bitch @ZARA Remember me?,” Yai concluded.

Despite the negativity, it’s good to see that the bullying and blacklisting didn’t work as Yai’s profile in the industry has only continued to rise. Just this year alone, she was one of the top stunners at the 2024 Met Gala, she’s also modeled for top fashion houses and graced the covers of several magazines. One shoot doesn’t stop no show, keep going Anok! We’re rooting for you! As for you Zara, I hope you’ve learned your lesson in the years since.
