Could Trump Hush Money Case Be The Trial Of The Century?

[ad_1]

One of worst presidents in this nation’s history is making history again: Trump is now the first former leader to undergo a criminal trial. On Monday, the jury selection for his highly anticipated hush money trial began. He is currently facing four criminal indictments as well as a civil lawsuit.

Could this be the trial of the century? The Manhattan district attorney, Alvin Bragg, is one of the case’s most prominent figures. Bragg has charged Mr. Trump with 34 felonies, accusing him of falsifying documents to hide a sex scandal involving porn star Stormy Daniels. Due to the nature of the case, salacious details of Trump’s personal life will be revealed.

In addition, the more of trial’s biggest players consist of: former publisher of The National Enquirer David Pecker, former editor of The National Enquirer Dylan Howard, former Playboy model Karen McDougal (who alleged she had an affair with Trump), Daniels’ attorney Keith Davidson and former Trump spokesperson Hope Hicks who is believed to have information about the hush money payment.

According to Judge Juan M. Merchan, one of the biggest challenges will be finding jury members who can be impartial during the proceedings. “The ultimate issue is whether the prospective jurors can assure us that they will set aside any personal feelings or biases and render a decision that is based on the evidence and the law,” Merchan stated in a filing from April 8.

Of course, Trump pleaded not guilty to all 34 counts of falsifying records to keep details from his sexual escapades from coming out during his 2016 election campaign. This trial in particular focuses on $130,000 in payments that Trump’s company made to his former lawyer Michael Cohen.

Prosecutors believe the money that was given to Cohen was falsely identified as legal fees to cover up what it was really for. However, Trump’s attorneys insist that the cash was indeed for legal fees—not part of some elaborate cover-up.

If Trump is found guilty, he could receive up to four years in prison. There is also the possibility that he receives a no-jail time sentence as well. Trump’s legal team tried their best to get the hush money case dismissed as well as delay it, with several last-minute appeals court hearing occurring last week.

Trump’s legacy includes mishandling Covid, being impeached twice, insisting that the 2020 election was stolen, inciting the January 6 attack on the Capitol and being the first former president to undergo a criminal trial. Somehow, he remains the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination—which shouldn’t even be a reality for the disgraced mogul.

WNBA fashionistas expected to showcase their styles at the draft with spotlight on women’s hoops

[ad_1]

Caitlin Clark. Cameron Brink. Kamilla Cordoso. Angel Reese.

All will step into the glaring spotlight of Monday night’s WNBA’s draft having faced the challenge essentially every woman can identify with: Wearing just the right outfit for a special occasion.

When a woman finds what she wants, it’s not a question of whether alterations are needed, but how much. The taller the woman, the bigger the challenge.

This draft, thanks to Clark and others, more people should be watching than ever before.

“There’s never been a bigger spotlight on women’s basketball, thanks in large part to players like Caitlin Clark, and coaches like Dawn Staley,” Rose Minutaglio, ELLE senor editor of features and special projects, wrote in an email to The Associated Press.

That makes it the perfect time to make a fashionable splash.

“With more eyes on the league, players recognize the opportunity to showcase their personalities through their style,” Minutaglio said. “Because of glaring pay discrepancies, fashion partnerships and brand sponsorships will continue to play a big role for female athletes.”

Staley and her South Carolina Gamecocks’ victory over Clark and Iowa for the women’s national championship game outdrew the men in television ratings, and this is shaping up to be the WNBA’s most-watched draft.

The 6-foot-1 Clark will be joined in New York by the 6-7 Cordoso, 6-5 Brink and 6-3 Reese, among others. They’ve been busy since the NCAA Tournament too, especially Clark who made a surprise appearance on “Saturday Night Live.”

Clark wouldn’t tip her hand Sunday about what she’s wearing Monday night, saying it’s always tough picking out what to wear. Luckily, she has had people helping her prepare.

“I haven’t had to do it all myself, so it’s been a little less stressful,” Clark said.

Finding glam looks off the rack can be a challenge for most women.

Being tall, however, actually can be an advantage and not a hinderance for WNBA players. Models who grace the runways during fashion week and the covers of fashion magazines also stand at least 6 feet and taller.

The league’s own growing popularity in recent years also has helped.

“Players are also starting to work directly with designers, who help outfit them, and stylists, who focus on game-day drip,” Minutaglio wrote.

This will be only the second WNBA draft with fans in attendance, and 1,000 tickets sold out in February to attend Monday night at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Fans got to attend the 2016 draft at the Mohegan Sun when former UConn All-American Breanna Stewart was the top pick.

Shakira Austin, the third overall pick in 2022 by the Washington Mystics, understands the angst Clark and others face. While the 6-5 center was playing in college at Mississippi, Austin was forced to be creative as she struggled to find pants that fit or any clothing that fit her style.

So she got busy with a sewing machine and became her own designer. Now that Austin is in the pros, she’s a fashionista tapping into her creativity doing more than just pants, leggings and shirts. Austin told the AP earlier this year that it’s a great time to dive into both modeling and clothing design.

She sees no reason to wait until her playing career is over.

“I’ve always wanted my own brand, and I think this time right now allows me to really build off that and also collab with different brands and talk to people who add their own styles,” Austin said.

On her way to becoming the NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer, Clark was surprised by designer Kristin Juszczyk, whose husband Kyle plays for NFC champion San Francisco in the NFL. She created a puffer vest with Clark’s No. 22 in Iowa black and gold, putting the player in select company with the likes of entertainer Taylor Swift.

Minutaglio said several brands work with female athletes with Glossier and SKIMS teaming up with the WNBA specifically. She noted sports brands like PUMA, Adidas, and NIKE all work with women in basketball.

“What’s interesting is we’re seeing players and teams branch out into high-fashion, wearing Dior and Louis Vuitton and Gucci,” Minutaglio said.

Staley herself was decked out on the sideline of the title game in Louis Vuitton from her silver jacket down to her sneakers, grabbing attention for her look far beyond the sports pages. Minutaglio noted New York-based women’s wear brand M.M. LaFleur has a multi-year deal with the New York Liberty.

“I wrote a story for ELLE in 2022 predicting the rise of WNBA game-day fashion, and since then, the looks just keep getting better and better,” Minutaglio wrote. “The fashion set is excited to see where it goes from here.”

45-Year-Old Married Nebraska Substitute Teacher Caught Naked in Car with 17-Year-Old Student –

[ad_1]

A substitute teacher employed by Omaha Public Schools was apprehended on Saturday after being discovered in the backseat of her SUV with a 17-year-old individual, as per authorities.

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office were responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on a dead-end road near Bennington when they encountered Erin Ward and the teenager in Ward’s Honda Pilot.

The 17-year-old swiftly moved into the driver’s seat and attempted to flee from the deputies, resulting in a collision with a yard nearby. The teenager then fled on foot, while Ward was found in the backseat of the vehicle, putting on her clothes.

Ward admitted to engaging in sexual activity with the teenager, who she identified as a student at Burke High School.

Erin Ward, who was confirmed to be a substitute teacher at Burke and other schools in the area, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of felony sexual abuse by a school employee.

The investigation is ongoing, with the Sheriff’s Office collaborating closely with the Douglas County Attorney’s Office and OPS.

End Times Finally Here? Black Pastors Weigh In

[ad_1]

The latest headlines have thrown some Christ followers into a panic, worrying the end times is coming sooner rather than later. However, a few church leaders weighed in on the frenzy to set the record straight, and hopefully, calm everyone down.

The “Prophecies” and Oddities

Over the past decades, any sequence of abnormal events typically led to a new deadline for the Doomsday clock. The COVID-19 pandemic had churches shook, believing it was a plague sent by God, similar to plagues He set upon the Egyptians in the Book of Exodus—which is what Sunny Hostin of “The View” was getting at.

One church even encouraged their congregation to “seal their doorposts” with an image of Jesus, like the Israelites did with the blood of a lamb during Passover, to avoid the angel of death.

The wave of national civil unrest in response to the sensationalized coverage of police brutality cases has also been connected to the end of days—with Pastor J.D. Farag claiming that the Black Lives Matter movement was ultimately going to cause destruction. Apocalyptic significance was also used to explain the wars overseas between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the Israel-Gaza war.

More oddly, in the midst of unrest, CBS News reported the relocation of five purebred red heifers from Texas to the Holy Land which are connected to an Old Testament law of purification that required them for sacrifice. Jews believe these cows are a requirement for the building of a Third Jewish Temple. American evangelicals believe it’s a sign of the coming of the Messiah, the report says.

Then, there’s everything that happened in 2024 so far. Two broods of cicadas are predicted to smother the nation when they hatch this year, after 200 years, in the billions. Earthquakes shook Taiwan and the east of the U.S. Boats crashed into bridges. And an eclipse, eclipsed (or to some, marked the beginning of the end).

In reaction to these events, some people went off the deep end. Just the other day, Florida Highway Patrol said a woman claimed she was ordered by God to go on a shooting spree because of the eclipse. Another woman was accused of throwing her young daughters of the moving vehicle before fatally crashing because she was paranoid about the apocalypse. Many others have simply let these events drive them into a panic.

However, for the body of Christ, our leaders say there’s not much to worry about.

“It’s Just Hype…”

To Rev. Joseph Darby, senior pastor of Morris Brown A.M.E. Church in Charleston, S.C., said all of the frantic reports about what’s happening in the world is just propaganda.

“I think the hype is simply hype. We go through this at least once every generation,” he said. “I think if there was something different about the earthquake – like if it quaked for 10 seconds, stopped for five more seconds and then quaked for 60 more seconds and the sky turned red – I would be a little concerned about that.”

Dr. Sean Souels of Kingdom Ministries Inc. out of New Jersey also said everyone needs to pipe down. He says the recent earthquake was simply an earthquake—anatural phenomenon and not something to fret over.

“We are frightened at anything that throws us out of our presumed norm. We let so many things disturb us because we don’t follow what the scripture says,” said Dr. Souels.

Is Judgement Day Coming?

In response to being asked if we’re currently living in the end times, Rev. Darby said calmly, “I think we’ve been in the end times since the resurrection of Christ.”

However, Dr. Souels slightly disagreed with this notion, pointing to the Book of Acts, the second chapter. There, the Apostle Peter quotes the prophet Joel saying the day of Pentecost marked the beginning of the “eschaton” which is Greek for “the last days.”

“We have been living in the last days. The ‘last days’ has been since over 2,000 years ago. There have been things that have happened 500 years ago, things that have happened 700 years ago,” he said. “Until Matthew [chapter] 24 comes to pass, we need to sit still and relax.”

The scripture he’s referring to is when Jesus predicted the destruction of the Temple and spoke to His disciples about the second coming.

“And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows,” Jesus says in Matthew 24: 6-8 (NKJV).

Minneapolis Pastor Joshua Giles of Kingdom Embassy Worship Center said in a recent message that in the above passage, Jesus was referring to the end of an age or period of time. These occurrences are merely an indication that the world system as we know it is getting ready to change.

So, What Do We Do?

The key is to remember we can’t put a time or a date on when the end comes (“But of that day and hour no one knows…” Matthew 24:36). Instead, leaders encourage us to follow Jesus’ example, and always be postured in faithful servitude whether He comes back tomorrow or in another seven centuries.

“It’s more of a matter of living in preparation. The very nature of the scripture doesn’t give you something you can put on a timer, or clock. The nature of scripture means that Christ could come back at any time,” said Darby.

So, what can the body of Christ can do in the meantime?

“We can repent. We can return to the heart of the Father. We can do what the great commission tells us to do and that’s to go into all the world and to reach those that are lost, preaching the message of the Gospel,” Giles said.

He added, “We can embrace the fact God is pouring out His spirit everywhere. We can be a part of the next move of God – and the next move of God is going to look like nothing we’ve ever seen.”
