Hip-hop and R&B just collided in a firestorm of insults, accusations, and online chaos. What began as a cryptic tweet from rap titan Nicki Minaj targeting Top Dawg Entertainment’s Punch spiraled into a heated and highly public online spat between Nicki Minaj and Grammy-winning singer SZA, and absolutely nothing was off limits.

The X (formerly Twitter) timeline is now soaked in digital blood as the two musical powerhouses trade punches with no signs of peace in sight.

It Started With a “Shit List” and a Picture of Punch

On July 15, Nicki Minaj posted a picture of TDE executive Punch, cryptically captioning it with the following:

“Me after I suck some good zik. Guarantee you wouldn’t fight a man. We have every tweet of your incessant bullying, lying, & more. Your name was added to that shit list shitty drawers. Same thing that make you laugh make you…shi”

She followed that up with an even more biting jab:

“Tiny
Dick
Executive”

Though the initial tweets appeared to be aimed directly at Punch, a longtime figure behind the scenes of SZA’s career, it didn’t take long for the “Kill Bill” singer to enter the ring herself.

SZA Tries to Play It Cool… At First

Roughly an hour after Nicki’s tweets, SZA broke her silence with a light, seemingly dismissive post:

“Mercury retrograde .. don’t take the bait lol silly goose.”

But Nicki wasn’t in a cosmic mood. She immediately quote-tweeted SZA’s message, and the gloves officially came off:

“Go draw your freckles back on bookie
#JusticeForDemoree #DepositionPerez
Liar liar pants on fire. Sounding like a fkng dead dog.”

For those wondering who is Demoree, that remains unclear, but the hashtag has now gone viral, trending as fans speculate whether it refers to a personal legal matter or insider tea.

SZA Fires Back: “I Don’t Give a F* Bout None of That Weird Shit”**

SZA wasted no time in responding to Nicki’s verbal sledgehammer:

“I don’t give a fuck bout none of that weird shit you popping.”

Nicki quickly returned the favor, taking aim at SZA’s appearance and signature style:

“Bitch looking & sounding like she got stung by a fucking bee. 😩 dot dot dot Draws on my fake freckles#JusticeForDemoree”

This wasn’t just shade. This was a solar eclipse-level blackout.

The Barbz Move In, and SZA Stands Her Ground

Once Nicki’s tweets hit the feed, her famously loyal and aggressive fanbase, the Barbz, mobilized like clockwork. One user warned SZA:

“You really don’t wanna start this girl… if you was crying before, you really gon cry now when the bar(b)z get at you.”

But SZA remained unfazed, offering a raw, impassioned response:

“I get bullied by millions online every day then step my ass out onna packed stadium tour where ppl show me REAL love. IN REAL LIFE. My parents are healthy and I’m the most successful I ever been. GET SOME FUCKING PERSPECTIVE n BARK AT THE WALL!!!”

A Nicki Minaj page asked SZA question:

“have you lost your fucking mind? like actually.”

SZA claims she in fact lost her damn mind and also pulled up the numbers that support it:

“absolutely . U AINT HEARD THE ALBUM THAT WENT NUMBER ONE 13 WEEKS ? That shoulda let you know . IM OUT MY FUCKING MIND .”

A Nicki Minaj stats page tweeted at SZA letting her know that Nicki is richer than her:

“you didn’t eat this 😭 nicki richer than you, prettier than you and more successful than you. watch your mouth you MUTT”

SZA replied by addressing the Mutt comment:

“Calling a black woman a mutt to defend another black woman is so cooked 😂 OPEN THE SCHOOLS .”

Another Nicki Minaj fan page also claimed SZA inserted herself into Nicki’s drama:

“Baby you inserted your self in some shit that didn’t involve you. You ARE NOT THE VICTIM”

SZA reveals her tweet wasn’t directed at anyone:

“I wasn’t even talking about or to anyone I had just got off stage talkin bout retrograde . NIGGAS @‘d ME . The FUCK YES IM MAD NOW DO YOU NEED THAT !??”

Another fan tried to discredit SZA’s success, tweeting:

“Girl you on a joint tour do that shit solo i wanna see something!”

SZA snapped back with receipts. She posted a screenshot of her SOS Tour revenue, writing:

“What the fuck you wanna see lemme know”

The stats speak for themselves:
“SZA’s ‘SOS Tour’ has grossed $100 million. SZA joins Tina Turner, Beyoncé and Rihanna as the only Black women to achieve the milestone with a tour.”

SZA decided to call it a night:

“Lmao lemme go back to being calm shy and meek . Yall have blessed night ! See you tomorrow for night 2 Paris !! ❤️🫶🏾”

After a college student living in Queens, New York, was attacked and jumped by a trio over a parking spot, she is moving out of the neighborhood for good, even after the community has rallied around her with support. 

On Monday, July 7, Jada McPherson was attempting to park in an open parking spot along a street in Queens when a mother and daughter, along with an unidentified male neighbor, began to attack McPherson both verbally and physically. 

“It just all happened so fast,” McPherson told ABC 7 News. “Her agenda was to pull my hair. That was their main agenda, like it’s three against one, and I’m like 130 pounds, barely.”

The encounter escalated into a full-on brawl with the attackers swinging closed-fist punches at McPherson and pulling her hair. Racial epithets and derogatory remarks were hurled by both parties, including the mother calling McPherson “a monkey, b—” and the daughter calling her a “slave.” McPherson has also owned up to calling them an “immigrant.” 

In the days since McPherson, a 21-year-old rising senior at Pace University, has made plans to move out of the neighborhood for good. She told the New York Post that her leasing company had even offered to relocate her elsewhere. After the brawl leaked online, the neighborhood and community from as far as Long Island held a rally in support of her.

The mother and daughter pair, identified as 45-year-old Andreea Dumitru and 21-year-old Sabrina Starman, have since been arrested and charged with assault and harassment. The two have also since apologized, especially in the wake of footage of the incident leaking online, leading to an onslaught of backlash, including death threats. 

“I just feel like the death threats are unnecessary,” McPherson told the New York Post, despite still being upset herself. “I don’t think the death threats are necessary. I just feel the violence, especially to [her] son, is completely unnecessary. He shouldn’t be at fault for something that they did.”

“I’ll never do that again,” Dumitru said. “Ever. I learned my lesson. I will never do something like that again, and I will never condone something like that ever again.

“You want the parking? Take it. It’s not worth this. This is not worth it.”

Meanwhile, McPherson has also gained a new outlook on life in the aftermath of the fight that has reignited outrage around Black women’s safety and calls to protect Black women.

“It gives you a different look at life. Like, you understand what I’m saying, like certain things is just you just have to, like, let it be,” she told ABC 7.

As boxing fans continue to come down off the high they got from the All-Women’s boxing card that took place at Madison Square Garden over the weekend, one of the sport’s greatest athletes–Laila Ali–might be making a return. Or at least, that’s the message we took from her during a brief intermission during the fights.

If you missed it, Netflix aired a series of fights and had Ali as well as Kate Scott and Andre Ward serving as host for the evening. Towards the end, while conversing with fellow fighter Jake Paul, they danced around Ali potentially coming back to get in the ring one last time. Though she initially laughed the topic off, she said that in order to do so, someone would have to offer her the big bucks (we’re talking millions) for it to happen.

After the fights were done for the evening, Ali was cornered again and asked for more of a response and if she’d specifically fight the current, undisputed heavyweight champion Claressa Shields.

“The rumor that I heard is that unless somebody has $15 to $20 million, don’t even call me about this, that’s all I know,” Ali said in a video posted by Art of the Dialogue over the weekend. “Unless somebody calls me and says they have it, we’re not even gonna have a conversation. I’m not trying to come back and fight, but if somebody was offering that kind of money– I would actually have to think about it.”

After getting wind of Ali’s comments, Shields herself took to X/Twitter to express that she’d be open to fighting her, but that she’d better be ready to lose.

What a great weekend of boxing! Really motivated! Now@TheRealLailaAli I’m the GREATEST NOW! Be careful what you ask for!” she wrote. “You know I’ve been wanting to make you eat your words! You not a better boxer than me & at 175 I’ll put you on your back! BEEN READY FOR YOU.”

Shields continued her petition to get in the ring with Ali, referencing the highly-watched fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul that took place in November 2024.

“If @MikeTyson 58 can fight against @jakepaul 27, I don’t know why y’all scared for @TheRealLailaAli 47 Vs Me @Claressashields 30 ! She think she bad right…. I been telling her if she want to prove she so much better skilled than me and got so much power… come do it. Don’t start copping pleas now!” Shields wrote.

Synopsis: When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer… and is hell-bent on revenge.

Directed by Do Revenge filmmaker Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the film promises to blend horror nostalgia with sharp social commentary and sleek new visuals. On July 3rd, Hewitt took to Instagram to express her love for the film and for Robinson, who she calls the “bad ass boss” that made it all possible.

“I Know What You Did Last Summer is almost here! July 18th you will get to see it! Before you do I need to give a shoutout to our director! @jennkaytin is a force,” she wrote.
“She loves the original movie and wanted you to see that in this new one! We are on screen and the posters but her heart and hard work is in every frame.”

It’s a rare glimpse into Hewitt’s behind-the-scenes pride and her intentional decision to give credit where it’s due, especially to women directors making waves in a genre long dominated by men.

Hollywood Ageism, Body Politics, and Being “Unfuckable”

Though many fans celebrated her red carpet glow-up, some users dredged up a familiar and tired trope: criticizing a woman’s body for aging naturally.

Social media reactions to her appearance ranged from overtly sexual to aggressively ageist. One user cruelly fixated on how “she no longer has the body of a fucking teenager,” prompting a wave of defenders to step in.

“Imagine being a grown ass man looking at a middle-aged woman with CHILDREN and the first thing your worm brain comes up with is how she no longer has the body of a fucking teenager,” one user tweeted. “Every single one of you belongs on a list.”

“Black people complimenting her curves while white men (and some white women) are calling her fat. Lol…” another pointed out, highlighting a cultural divide in body standards.

“Thick or thin she will always make me 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵,” another person wrote unapologetically.

“She felt good in what she was wearing. That’s all that matters,” a fan chimed in, with the now-viral quote: “Oh she ate that. Body tea, hair laid, face card activated yes.”

Hewitt has not directly responded to the online commentary, but she’s previously spoken out against the pressures placed on women to remain “frozen in time.”

In an interview with Fox News, she addressed the persistent ageism she faces in Hollywood.

“Whatever it is, you just want to have the freedom to be whoever you are at that age,” she said. “And it’s hurtful sometimes when people reject you as you are verbally on Instagram or the internet because they’re having a hard time adjusting to it.”

Shaquille O’Neal isn’t having it when it comes to criticism of his mentee and WNBA star Angel Reese, and he made that crystal clear during an appearance on the “Off the Record” podcast this week.

The NBA legend came out swinging after Robert Griffin III, better known as RGIII, decided to stir the pot again on social media. On July 10, Griffin chimed in on the discourse about a racist photo edit of Reese’s NBA 2K26 cover. However, as he condemned a racist photo edit of Reese’s NBA 2K cover, he also threw fuel on the fire by claiming that Reese “hates” Caitlin Clark.

“RGIII: Tweet another monkey post about my girl Angel Reese and I’m gonna punch you in your f****** face,” O’Neal said during the July 15 podcast episode. “It’s enough. I don’t usually do stuff like this, but stop it, bro. You got your job, you got your podcast. Leave my Angel Reese alone.”

Griffin’s original post claimed he had “been quiet on the Angel Reese front” because she allegedly shared content that led to death threats against his family. He went on to assert that people in Reese’s “inner circle” told him she “hates Caitlin Clark” due to constant media comparisons between the two players.

The comments sparked immediate backlash, with Reese and her mother even calling out Griffin for lying about the situation. Similarly, sports commentator Ryan Clark called out RGIII‘s “strange fascination with Angel Reese.” But O’Neal did not hold back when defending his mentee. 

Shaq went beyond just clapping back. He framed the entire conversation for what it really is: a reflection of how Black women, especially in sports, are policed and criticized under the guise of “debate.” And let’s not forget, Angel Reese has been catching heat since the moment she stepped into the national spotlight, most of it rooted in racism and misogynoir.

“If you look around [at] what’s going on in this real country, that’s hate,” O’Neal said about the perceived tension between the two stars. “This is sports. I’m not supposed to like you.”

The former Lakers and Heat center made it clear he’s been advising Reese not to respond to the criticism.

“She’s not gonna respond, because I’m the one calling her and be like, ‘Baby, keep it classy,’” Shaq explained. “Because she’s not soft, by any means. [She’s] from the streets. But I’m like, ‘You’re beautiful. Don’t indulge with these fools.’ Because he’s a fool.”

Shaq didn’t stop there. He questioned Griffin’s credibility to speak on women’s basketball while suggesting the former quarterback might be better remembered for his controversial podcast takes than his NFL career.

“He don’t even have G-14 classification to say that,” O’Neal said, referencing the now-defunct European football organization. “I would respect it more if Lisa Leslie said it [because] that’s [her] category. Stay out of other people’s category.”

The passionate defense comes as Reese continues to make her mark in the WNBA on and off the court. Earlier this month Reese announced her signature Reebok shoe on the cover of the NBA 2K26 WNBA Edition. Considered as one of the league’s rising stars alongside Clark, Reese, both players, who faced off in the 2023 NCAA championship game, have been subject to constant comparisons and manufactured controversy throughout their professional careers.

Ultimately, Shaq’s message to Griffin was clear: “leave those girls alone.” 

“Like, I don’t mind you doing your job, same as anyone, but don’t pick on that little girl. Because guess what? I’m her protector. Now pick on me. You pick on me, I’m gonna punch you in your fucking face,” he concluded.

Robert Griffin III has been out of pocket all summer, according to some sports fans. But now, he has Shaquille O’Neal out for him after he shared an insulting photo in reference to WNBA star Angel Reese. And O’Neal held no punches about it… for now.

In May, the Indiana Fever faced off against the Chicago Sky. Fever player Caitlin Clark received a flagrant foul on Reese in the third quarter. RG III looked at how Reese responded to being fouled and posted a video on X (with his white wife Grete Griffin sitting in the background egging him on) where he said Reese clearly “hated” Clark.

Ryan Clark didn’t like that. He said that RG III was catering to white people and the fact that RG is married to a white woman only illustrates that Griffin is disconnected from the experience of Black women.

Griffin clapped back. (It was Travis Scott “CHAMPAIN & VACAY” level clapback. Meaning hardly one at all.)

Things settled down after that. Ryan Clark apologized for mentioning the former NFL player’s wife (even though he did not attack Mrs. Griffin personally) and we all thought it was over. But it wasn’t.

RG III was back at it again when he posted an image of Reese as a monkey on the cover of NBA 2K26.

Alright. This has got to stop. There is no place for racism in this world. Whether you like a player or not. Angel Reese should never be called or depicted as a Monkey.

OK. Let me break down why him posting this is a PROBLEM.  

RG III tweeted this image and said that he hated it. Yet, he undermines all that he said by posting the racist picture and drawing attention to it. Had he not done that, no one would have seen it. It would have disappeared like many of the other racist things people post in places like 4Chan or Truth Social. The fact that he tweeted it is what drew even more attention to the derogatory image.

And this is where O’Neal enters the chat. He pulled no punches when addressing the former Baylor quarterback who never amounted to much in the NFL.

There are two things from that video worth highlighting. One: He said that he personally told Angel Reese not to publicly respond to Griffin. The NBA Hall Of Fame inducted player knows a thing or two about handling criticism, so she should heed his advice.  Two: he removed his sunglasses, looked directly in the camera, and said with all of his 7’1, 365 pound chest that he would punch RG III in the face if he does anything like this again.

Clark was diplomatic and measured in how he responded to his former coworker at ESPN. O’Neal…not so much.

RG III better log off before he catches a two piece from O’Neal. And I’m not talking about Popeyes.

James Gunn is done playing by the old DC rulebook.

The Superman director and co-CEO of DC Studios has confirmed that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will officially be the second feature film in the highly anticipated DC Universe (DCU) reboot. Not because it fits the timeline, not because of box office forecasts, but because of one reason only: the script is “incredible.”

“I didn’t necessarily know that Supergirl would be the second movie we were going to make,” Gunn revealed during an interview with Brazilian outlet Omelete. “But Ana [Nogueira] wrote an incredible script, and then we hired an incredible director. We’re going to do this movie after Superman because it was the best option.”

Let that sink in. This wasn’t a planned rollout. It wasn’t part of some carefully orchestrated multiverse mosaic. Gunn is putting the story first, and everything else second.

The Era of “Quality Is King” at DC Studios

Since taking the reins of DC Studios alongside producer Peter Safran, James Gunn has been steadily dismantling the chaotic infrastructure left behind by previous regimes. While his Superman reboot (Superman, starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan) is slated for July 2025, the surprise follow-up, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, is now taking the spotlight as Chapter One’s second major installment, dropping June 26, 2026.

And Gunn has one thing on his mind: excellence.

“Other movies have been written,” Gunn continued, “but they haven’t been as good as this one. So we’re going to keep going with that. Everything has to be good. Quality comes first in every project we do. And that’s more important than telling a grandiose mega-narrative.”

This isn’t lip service. According to Rolling Stone, Gunn recently scrapped a greenlit DC project entirely. A film that had already entered pre-production was pulled because the screenplay wasn’t up to par.

“We just killed a project,” he told the magazine. “Everybody wanted to make the movie. It was greenlit, ready to go. The screenplay wasn’t ready. And I couldn’t do a movie where the screenplay’s not good.”

This is a full-stop pivot from how Warner Bros. and DC operated in the past decade, when unfinished scripts, rushed timelines, and clunky crossovers often derailed the entire franchise.

Supergirl: A Gritty Galactic Odyssey

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is based on the critically acclaimed 2022 miniseries by Tom King. But Gunn and screenwriter Ana Nogueira, the actress-writer who’s quickly becoming DC’s not-so-secret weapon, are going beyond a straight adaptation.

Australian actress Milly Alcock, best known for her breakout role as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon, will star as Kara Zor-El, the hardened cousin of Superman. She was raised on a dying fragment of Krypton and is far less enamored with humanity than her more famous relative.

The film follows Kara as she treks across the stars with a young girl seeking vengeance for her father’s murder. A twisted space western with moral weight, existential dread, and intense character work, the comic series shocked fans with its melancholic tone and emotional complexity. The film appears to be following suit.

Craig Gillespie, known for I, Tonya and Cruella, is directing and brings another layer of credibility and creative ambition to the project.

Jason Momoa has been confirmed to play the ultra-violent, cigar-chomping bounty hunter Lobo, a fan-favorite antihero whose inclusion is drawn from Tom King’s unused drafts.

This pairing of Kara and Lobo is totally unhinged and totally brilliant.

What This Means for the DCU’s Future

James Gunn has made it clear. Supergirl isn’t being fast-tracked because of a larger narrative agenda. It’s being prioritized because it’s the best script in the arsenal. That’s it. And in a franchise notorious for sacrificing storytelling in favor of tentpole spectacle, that’s a revolutionary mindset.

Instead of racing toward a rushed Justice League-style crossover or dumping dozens of disconnected projects into theaters, Gunn is building slowly. He is curating each film like a novel, not a chapter in an endless TV season.

That’s why other films that fans expected to hit early, such as The Authority, Swamp Thing, or Batman: The Brave and the Bold, are now on hold. If the scripts aren’t ready, they’re not getting made.

This also means the DCU’s release order will remain unpredictable, guided not by a fixed plan, but by whatever project hits that rare mark of excellence Gunn demands.

With Gunn’s Superman already boasting an all-star cast and cinematic pedigree, and Supergirl shaping up to be a space-bound feminist punch to the face, DC may finally be catching up to Marvel. Not by copying it, but by outclassing it.

Democrats are decrying Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s move to redraw the state’s congressional maps to help President Donald Trump and Republicans maintain their powerful majority in Washington, D.C.

Next week, the Republican-controlled Texas state legislature will begin a special session called by Abbott. The redistricting of Texas’ congressional map is a top item on their legislative agenda. This comes after Trump’s Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, Harmeet Dhillon, sent a letter to Gov. Abbott and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton expressing “serious concerns regarding the legality” of four of Texas’s congressional districts.

The Trump official characterized the four districts as “unconstitutional ‘coalition districts’” and urged the state of Texas to “rectify these race-based considerations from these specific districts.”

On Tuesday, Trump said he wanted the Texas legislature to do a “simple” redrawing of the map to give congressional Republicans, who currently have a tight majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, at least five additional seats.

Maintaining a majority after next year’s midterm elections is crucial for Trump to finish carrying out the legislative agenda of his second and final term. Democrats taking control of the House would stymie those plans and likely lead to politically damaging investigations of the Trump administration.

During a press conference on Tuesday with Democratic leadership and the Texas delegation, U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, pointed out that all four of the districts targeted by the Trump administration—congressional districts 9,18, 29, and 33—are represented by Black and brown lawmakers.

“We only have four seats that are represented by Black folk, where the vast majority of the people [who] get to decide who they have represent them are Black. They decided to attack three of the four seats that we have in the state,” explained Crockett of the districts represented by Reps. Al Green, Marc Veasey, and another seat left vacant after the death of former Rep. Sylvester Turner.

She continued, “They [also] decided to go after a Latina [Rep. Sylvia Garcia]. They are specifically deciding to splinter the communities of common interest, as well as just blatantly say we are going to dilute minority voices.”

Since the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, states have been federally prohibited from drawing maps that do not allow Black voters, who were historically disenfranchised, particularly in the Jim Crow South, to elect candidates of their choice. However, after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Section 5 of the VRA, which required federal approval for states to pass voting rights legislation, there has been an explosion of restrictive voting laws and gerrymandering maps that give Republicans significant advantages.

“The courts, ever since we’ve had a Voting Rights Act, have always found this state to be intentionally discriminatory,” said Crockett.

Despite Texas being a majority-minority state, the popular Democrat chastised the Republican-led legislature for doing what she says it has always done historically: “Dilute the voices of people of color.”

Crockett added, “I need people of color to understand that the scheme of the Republicans has consistently been to make sure that they mute our voices so that they can go ahead and have an oversized say.”

During the same press conference, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., said he anticipates Texas Republicans to serve as “political punks” who will “bend the knee to Donald Trump’s extreme agenda.” He also noted that Democrats are already in litigation challenging Texas’ current congressional map, accusing it of being a violation of the Voting Rights Act.

As Congresswoman Crockett explained, 95% of Texas’ population growth, per U.S. Census data, was a result of increased Black and Brown voters.

“[Republicans] went out of their way to make sure that we got zero new seats for people of color. So that’s exactly what they’re going to do this time,” she said.

As for potential legal challenges to whatever map Republicans draw in Texas, Jeffries, who would become the first Black speaker of the U.S. House if Democrats win back the majority next November, told reporters on Tuesday, “All of our legal options will continue to be on the table.”
