Since his untimely death in 2009, Michael Jackson’s estate has been defending his legacy and his fortune against posthumous lawsuits, including two from men who claim Jackson sexually abused them when they were children. Now, his executors are back in court defending the late pop star against a former friend and manager they say is trying to use their relationship to make a profit.

The Michael Jackson Estate and The Michael Jackson Company, LLC filed a lawsuit on July 9 in Los Angeles County Superior Court accusing Frank Cascio of trying to extort 213 million dollars to prevent the release of abuse allegations to the public. The suit alleges Cascio threatened to release damaging information about Jackson which the estate maintains is false if he didn’t receive the massive payout. Jackson’s estate says Cascio’s actions are nothing but a shakedown.

“For over 30 years, Mr. Cascio proudly described himself as part of Michael’s ‘second family,’ and repeatedly and publicly denied any misconduct by Mr. Jackson,” a spokesperson for the estate told The Blast. “Now, years after Michael’s passing, Mr. Cascio is attempting to profit by reversing his position and manufacturing claims he previously denounced as false.”

If the estate’s allegations are true, it would be a complete 180 for Cascio, a long-time friend who has fiercely defended Jackson in television interviews with Wendy Williams, Oprah Winfrey and others.

“I’m gonna tell you something, if Michael Jackson ever laid a finger on me, I would not be in this chair right now,” he said in a 2024 Dateline interview.

Cascio also had nothing but love for Jackson in his 2011 memoir “My Friend Michael,” calling him a “brother, mentor and friend.”

“Knowing Michael was both and ordinary and extraordinary experience,” he wrote.

Neither Cascio nor his attorney, Mark Geragos have commented on the details of the lawsuit to date.

Doechii is intentional about how she uses her platform. Last month, the rapper went viral for condemning the Trump administration’s ICE raids and response to protests while accepting the award for “Best Female Hip Hop Artist “at the 2025 BET Awards. In a recent interview with British Vogue, the rapper remained equally as unapologetic about her decision to speak out on stage. 

“I’m not that desensitized, and it felt right,” she told the outlet. “I felt like I needed to use that moment, and they were live, so it wasn’t s— they could do about it.” 

As the BET Awards took place in Los Angeles on June 9, just blocks away, protesters were flooding the streets in response to the immigration crackdowns that were taking place across the city. In addition to thanking her team, Doechii took a moment to acknowledge what was happening outside the building. 

“I do wanna address what’s happening right now outside of the building,” she told the audience at the time. “There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order. Trump is using military force to stop a protest. And I want y’all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us.”

Doechii recalled the moments that led up to that moment. Twenty-four hours before the BET Awards, the Florida rapper remembered learning about the protests in LA, curfew enforcement, National Guard deployment, and seeing footage of protesters being pepper-sprayed. Similarly, upon her arrival on the red carpet, she remembered hearing protesters shouting for human rights and common decency across the street—a reality she could not ignore. 

“What type of government is that?” she continued in her speech. “People are being swept up and torn from their families, and I feel it’s my responsibility as an artist to use this moment to speak up for all oppressed people: for Black people, for Latino people, for trans people, for the people in Gaza. We all deserve to live in hope and not in fear, and I hope we stand together, my brothers and my sisters, against hate and we protest against it.”

Whether through music or her platform, Doechii is not afraid to advocate for what’s right.

Tisha Campbell is “good” now, although she recalls a time when she could barely afford Christmas presents for her children. 

During a recent appearance on “The Breakfast Club,” which arrived a year after she and her ex-husband finally closed out their bankruptcy case, the 56-year-old actress and mother of two shared more insight into her recent financial trouble stemming from her divorce. 

When asked by host Charlamagne tha God about a situation in which she had very little cash in her pocket post-divorce and amid bankruptcy, Campbell said, “The story was I had $21 in my pocket and a knife cost $7 and I wanted to pay for the knife. It was Christmas and I had a choice to try to get some extra toys for my kids at the Rite Aid or something.” 

Campbell, who was married to actor Duane Martin from 1996 to 2020 and shares two sons, Xen Whaheed, 23, and Ezekiel Czar, 15, with him, recently closed out a bankruptcy case with Martin in July 2024 that began in 2016. 

“I think it’s a lifetime of stuff and I don’t really understand how we went through the bankruptcy, honestly,” she said, when asked if closing the bankruptcy allowed her to move on. “I was kind of separated from it, so I don’t really know how we got through it, but it really is just taking yourself outside of it and keep it moving forward.”

“I got kids, man. I got two kids, one has ADHD, the other one got autism, two separate issues, and I just keep moving forward,” she continued. “I can’t look backwards. I can’t. So I just don’t.”

In 2018, after over two decades together, Campbell filed for divorce from Martin.

“After 27 years of being together and two amazing children, it pains me to announce that I’ve filed for divorce,” she said at the time, per People magazine. 

In 2020, when the divorce was finalized, she dropped Martin from her name and returned to just Campbell. 

While on “The Breakfast Club,” DJ Envy noted that there can be a misconception about successful, booked, and busy actresses like her that they rarely experience hardship, if at all. 

“I don’t really pay attention to the crowd noise,” she explained. “I can’t, I can’t afford it. And the way that I look at life, it’s like a football game. Like whoever’s on the field running with me and got that ball with me or running the field with me, I’m good.”

She added, “I don’t pay attention to the cheerleaders, those are the fake friends. I don’t pay attention to the crowd noise because they’re there, that’s their job to boo and to cheer. So I can’t pay attention to any of it. I have to just block it out and keep moving forward.”

A month after the news of the headline-making lawsuit for sexual harassment and assault against Tyler Perry hit the internet, the media mogul’s accuser, Derek Dixon, is breaking his silence.

As we reported, Dixon, an actor on Perry’s popular White House drama “The Oval,” accused Perry of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and retaliation in a bombshell $260 million lawsuit filed June 13 in Los Angeles Superior Court. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Dixon explained that he “couldn’t just let him get away with this.”

First Meeting Perry and ‘The Oval’

Dixon details his history with Perry in the interview, from first meeting the producer (Perry allegedly “singled him out” in a crowd of event staff for the opening night party for Tyler Perry Studios), to Perry eventually offering him a minor role of Dale on “Ruthless,” allegedly promising that it was a small role that could “get bigger.”

“Everyone deserves to go to work and do their job without their boss trying to have sex with them,” Dixon told the outlet, saying that his goal with coming forward is, “to help ensure that the next generation of actors and creatives don’t have to choose between their dreams and their dignity.”

Accusations

Dixon, who is an openly gay man, made it clear in the interview that he was “not going to speak for Perry” on how he identifies sexually. “Regardless of his sexual orientation or gender, he should not be speaking to any of his employees whether they be men or women, gay, straight or bisexual about their sexual preferences, how often they’re having sex and physically assaulting them.”

Dixon detailed one night in January 2020, when Perry allegedly invited Dixon to his home, where the two drank alcohol. Dixon alleges the writer told him he was too inebriated to drive, offered for him to stay in his guest house. He then says that while he was in the guest house, Perry, “climbed into bed with me and began rubbing my thigh. I immediately jumped out of the bed and said, ‘I’m not that sexual’ and stood up until he left the room. I thought that my reaction made it clear that night that I was not interested.”

Text Messages

Perry allegedly called or texted Dixon every day after that interaction, and quickly his minor role of Dale was bumped up to a recurring role on the “Ruthless” spinoff, “The Oval.”

“It was always personal and almost never about business,” Dixon said of the text exchanges, which became even more frequent when his role was bumped up. “He would say ‘send pics’ of what I was doing or ask to see a photo shoot that I just did.”

Around this time, Perry also agreed to shoot a comedy pilot that Dixon wrote, another instance where the media mogul exerted his power over Dixon’s career. For a while, Dixon explained that they maintained a friendly relationship, and that there were many times he was around Perry and “nothing” would happen. “So I thought he got the picture, and that created a false sense of security,” he explained.

“I now realize I let my gratefulness for what he’d done for me cloud my self-respect.” Dixon also alleges that in Perry’s text messages, he would seem to get angry if Dixon did not respond. “Don’t you dare ignore me. I deserve better. I deserve attention all the time,” one text in the complaint reads.

More Accusations

Dixon breaks down multiple alleged inappropriate instances in the story, including one moment where he went into Tyler’s trailer for a drink, saying in the interview that he “knew” he had to go. “We all were living at Tyler Perry Studios, working for Tyler Perry — who was the producer, writer, and director — and I understood that you do what Tyler Perry says, and you go where he demands.”

He claims that Perry was asking him uncomfortable questions in this moment, and Dixon kept “deflecting” by telling him that he was not “sexual” or “looking for anything.” Dixon claims that Perry allegedly pushed him “against the wall and grabbed his buttocks.”

Dixon also detailed going to Perry’s home in June of 2021 to discuss his pilot, in an instance where Dixon believed he was going to be raped. “He told me to give him a goodnight hug and as I did, he abruptly and forcefully pulled down my underwear and groped my bare ass,” Dixon explained to the outlet when detailing the allegation in his complaint. “When I tried to pull my underwear back up, he grabbed my wrists to keep me from putting them back on. I couldn’t believe what was happening.”

Dixon explained that he told him “‘No,’ ‘Stop,’ and ‘I don’t want this … but he wasn’t stopping.
