When American Transit, an insurance company, accused Sunny Hostin’s husband, Dr. Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin, an orthopedic surgeon, of committing insurance fraud, “The View” co-host called it a “frivolous civil lawsuit.” Now that the insurer has withdrawn its claims against Dr. Hostin, she says: “When you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.” 

In January 2025, Page Six reported that American Transit accused Dr. Hostin and 200 other doctors of fraudulently making insurance claims to receive kickbacks, which refers to illegal payments in a corruption scheme. After the insurer filed what was reportedly one of the largest RICO cases ever filed in New York, the Hostins’ legal team threatened to countersue for $5 million if the company did not withdraw its claim and release an apology. 

“American Transit is harassing me and my family in a frantic attempt to not pay its bills. Our family will not be intimidated and harassed. We remain unbowed,” Sunny Hostin said in a statement at the time. 

This week, American Transit formally withdrew its claim and agreed to pay Dr. Hostin for the invoices he submitted to the insurer. 

“Dr. Hostin was named primarily because he holds a small share of a surgical center that was involved in the dispute,” American Transit said in a statement. “After further discussions with Dr. Hostin and his attorneys and investigation by ATIC, ATIC has voluntarily withdrawn the suit against Dr. Hostin, and dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice.”

“Furthermore, ATIC deeply regrets any public speculation against Dr. Emmanuel Hostin, his wife, Sunny Hostin, or his children, which may have resulted from the lawsuit,” the statement concluded. 

For Hostin, the conclusion of this legal battle was simply a reflection of American Transit earning a Phd degree from “FAFO” (F** Around and Find Out) University.

Influencer-turned-actor Bryce Hall is entering a new kind of content house, one soaked in blood, betrayal, and brutal truths about social media fame.

In an exclusive interview with Where Is The Buzz’s Kori Nicole Barnes, Hall opened up about his terrifying new horror-thriller Skillhouse, a satirical bloodbath that examines what happens when influencers are willing to do anything for fame. The film, produced by GenTV’s Ryan Kavanaugh, Shane Valdez, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and Brad Baskin, hits theaters nationwide on July 11th. But before the screams begin, Bryce peeled back the ring light on what it really takes to survive in the world of viral content and what it was like acting opposite Hollywood heavyweights while covered in blood.

“It Felt Like a Long YouTube Skit… Where Everyone Dies”

“There’s creators that go too far in real life too,” he told Kori. “But in this movie, you kind of have to do the craziest things to survive.”

When asked what his own personal “line” was, the moment where clout just isn’t worth it, Bryce didn’t hesitate. “Yeah, there’s stuff I would never do, no matter how viral it could go.” His advice to up-and-coming influencers? “Have someone around you who doesn’t do social media to keep you grounded. You need someone to tell you, ‘Don’t post that.’”

A federal judge in New Hampshire said Thursday he will certify a class action lawsuit including all children who will be affected by President Donald Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship and issue a preliminary injunction blocking it.

Judge Joseph LaPlante announced his decision after an hour-long hearing and said a written order will follow. The order will include a seven-day stay to allow for appeal, he said.

The class is slightly narrower than that sought by the plaintiffs, who originally included parents as plaintiffs.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a pregnant woman, two parents and their infants. It’s among numerous cases challenging Trump’s January order denying citizenship to those born to parents living in the U.S. illegally or temporarily. The plaintiffs are represented by the American Civil Liberties Union and others.

At issue is the Constitution’s 14th Amendment, which states: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States.” The Trump administration says the phrase “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” means the U.S. can deny citizenship to babies born to women in the country illegally, ending what has been seen as an intrinsic part of U.S. law for more than a century.

“Prior misimpressions of the citizenship clause have created a perverse incentive for illegal immigration that has negatively impacted this country’s sovereignty, national security, and economic stability,” government lawyers wrote in the New Hampshire case.

LaPlante, who had issued a narrow injunction in a similar case, said while he didn’t consider the government’s arguments frivolous, he found them unpersuasive. He said his decision to issue an injunction was “not a close call” and that deprivation of U.S. citizenship clearly amounted to irreparable harm.

Cody Wofsy, an attorney for the plaintiffs, and his team have been inundated by families who are confused and fearful about the executive order, he said. Thursday’s ruling “is going to protect every single child around the country from this lawless, unconstitutional and cruel executive order,” he said.

Several federal judges had issued nationwide injunctions stopping Trump’s order from taking effect, but the U.S. Supreme Court limited those injunctions in a June 27 ruling that gave lower courts 30 days to act. With that time frame in mind, opponents of the change quickly returned to court to try to block it.

In a Washington state case before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the judges have asked the parties to write briefs explaining the effect of the Supreme Court’s ruling. Washington and the other states in that lawsuit have asked the appeals court to return the case to the lower court judge.

As in New Hampshire, a plaintiff in Maryland seeks to organize a class-action lawsuit that includes every person who would be affected by the order. The judge set a Wednesday deadline for written legal arguments as she considers the request for another nationwide injunction from CASA, a nonprofit immigrant rights organization.

Ama Frimpong, legal director at CASA, said the group has been stressing to its members and clients that it is not time to panic.

“No one has to move states right this instant,” she said. “There’s different avenues through which we are all fighting, again, to make sure that this executive order never actually sees the light of day.”

The New Hampshire plaintiffs, referred to only by pseudonyms, include a woman from Honduras who has a pending asylum application and is due to give birth to her fourth child in October. She told the court the family came to the U.S. after being targeted by gangs.

“I do not want my child to live in fear and hiding. I do not want my child to be a target for immigration enforcement,” she wrote. “I fear our family could be at risk of separation.”

Another plaintiff, a man from Brazil, has lived with his wife in Florida for five years. Their first child was born in March, and they are in the process of applying for lawful permanent status based on family ties — his wife’s father is a U.S. citizen.

“My baby has the right to citizenship and a future in the United States,” he wrote.

The Orlando’s sherriff’s department is warning parents that so-called harmless pranks could result in felony charges or even death after two teens kicked on the wrong door. What started off as a simple TikTok trend ended with a stranger’s door being knocked off the hinges, and according to Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, the incident could’ve taken a deadly turn.

It all started when two teens, Jeffery Merthie, 15, and Zahmarii Reddick, 13, were spotted on ring camera footage approaching a stranger’s house in a DeBary, Fla. neighborhood, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office. Late on Monday (July 7) evening, the two decided to play “ding dong ditch” and learned a hard lesson in response.

“Ding dong ditch,” although annoying if you’re on the receiving end, is a well-known prank where someone rings the doorbell and runs away before the homeowner could catch who did it. But Merthie and Reddick took the prank to another level when instead of simply knocking on doors, they started kicking them in.

The trend is viral on TikTok, but unfortunately for Merthie and Reddick, their attempted prank was all caught on camera. In the footage, both teens turn around as they stomp on the stranger’s front door. After about three kicks, they bolt from the scene, but little did they know, the door was kicked right off its hinges.

The home owner called the police, who soon caught up to Merthie and another unnamed teen. “You go ahead and put your hands behind your back,” the officer said pointing to Merthie. When the third teen asked what they did wrong, the officer responded, “You [Merthie] and another female… are in crystal clear camera walking up to somebody’s house. I mean the camera is crystal clear. Those shorts are very distinct,” the officer said referring to Merthie’s colorful shorts, which he wore during the crime.

Police arrested Merthie and soon went to Reddick’s house where they found the girl hiding in her mother’s attic. “And, let me tell you, mom was furious with her daughter after deputies told her what she had been up to,” Sheriff Mike Chitwood wrote in a Facebook post.

Reddick was quickly arrested, and as officers walked her from the house, you can hear her mother yelling in the back, “Never come back to my house again! Let me tell you something, don’t ever play with me again!” The emotional mother continued, “You want to come to my house and disrespect my house? After everything I’ve been through?”

The sheriff added to the statement, “Parents, use this as a reminder to TALK with your kids that this challenge is not harmless and is the dumbest way to end up with a felony charge or dead.”

In the state of Florida, the notorious “Stand Your Ground” law passed in 2005 gives individuals the right to use deadly force in self-defense without consequence. This law made national news after George Zimmerman used it as his defense for killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in 2012.

Both teens were taken into custody and charged with felony burglary, according to Daily Mail. Because of their ages, it’s unclear if they will be charged as adults.

President Donald Trump welcomed five African presidents to the White House on Wednesday for a multilateral mini-summit to discuss areas of mutual interest in trade and other kinds of economic partnerships.

“My administration is committed to strengthening our friendships in Africa through economic development efforts that benefit both the United States and our partners,” said Trump, who emphasized that the U.S. government was shifting its approach in Africa away from aid to more trade.

Trump also discussed his recent hosting of foreign ministers from Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo on June 27, in which the leaders signed a peace agreement after a deadly decades-long war between the two countries.

“There’s a lot of anger on your continent,” said Trump, who said his administration was working on “facilitating peace” in war-torn African nations like Sudan and Libya.

Wednesday’s summit included the presidents of Gabon (Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema), Guinea-Bissau (Umaro Sissoco Embaló), Liberia (Joseph Nyuma Boakai), Mauritania (Mohamed Ould Ghazouani), and Senegal (Bassirou Diomaye Faye).

Trump and the African leaders briefly spoke to reporters in the State Dining Room about their objectives. During the nearly hour-long televised portion of the multilateral meeting, there were moments of mutual praise between Trump and the African presidents.

Trump notably expressed amazement at how “good” Liberian President Boakai’s English was after the African leader gave brief remarks. English is the official language of Liberia.

“Where did you learn to speak so beautifully?…You were educated where? In Liberia? That’s very interesting,” said the president.

Bishop Joseph Tolton, an African policy expert and founder of the Pan-African advocacy group Interconnected Justice, told theGrio that Trump’s comments about Boakai’s English harkens back to 2018 when President Trump infamously called African nations “s–hole countries.”

“He approaches Africa from that bias and with that perception that these are kind of barbaric, uncivilized leaders and nations,” said Tolton, who often does missionary and advocacy work across the African continent.

Trump also received nearly unanimous endorsements from the African presidents when asked if they supported him receiving a Nobel Peace Prize for his role in helping to negotiate a peace deal between Rwanda and the DRC and other conflicts across the globe.

“I think that President Trump deserves it for all the efforts that he’s worked on,” said Gabon President Nguema, who said Trump “brought peace back” to the CEAK region, or the Economic Community of Central African States.

Mauritania President Ghazouani said he would “never be opposed” to Trump receiving a Nobel Peace Prize, as he is “already working very hard in favor of peace throughout the world with no distinction, no regard to what continent it’s on.”

President Trump was gleeful throughout the plesantries about his leadership, saying, “I didn’t know I’d be treated this nicely. We could do this all day long.”

Tolton scoffed at the praise for Trump from the African leaders and argued that, despite the Trump administration’s stated commitment to the continent, the U.S. president is putting his personal interests and the interests of the business world above the lives of everyday Africans.

“There’s been kind of an overall concern that Trump had plans on ignoring the continent. It is fair to say that he is not going to ignore the continent as much as he is really intent on selective deal making,” Tolton told theGrio. He explained, “That selective deal making is utterly grounded in opportunism for American companies to get at Africa’s minerals and resources and to really change the balance of trade with African nations.”

However, the African policy expert said there is a distinction between “predatory investments” and “equitable investments.”

“We know that this administration is allergic to the word, concept, and idea of equity. These are not equitable investments that are going to ultimately advance and lift the lives of Africans,” argued Tolton.

When asked by Bloomberg News’ Akayla Gardner on whether he planned on issuing tariffs to Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania and Senegal, Trump said he “hadn’t thought of it.” Looking at each of the African presidents before him, he continued, “I like him, him, him, him and him. No, I don’t think so. Not too much. It’s very good. These are friends of mine now.”

Tolton said Trump’s seemingly arbitrary approach to tariffs is emblematic of the U.S. president’s aim to create a “cabal of African dictators who share his sensibilities around strongman governments.”

“He is interested in creating a club of African dealmakers who will be involved in transactional relationships that first benefit them as individuals, and if anything trickles down to the African population or citizenry, well, maybe it does, or maybe it doesn’t,” he said.

Tolton added, “What is driving his relationship with Africa is what can I do from a humanitarian perspective that’s going to get me a Nobel Peace Prize, so that there’s nothing that [Former President Barack] Obama got that I can’t say that I have.”

His stunning Adobe-style mansion, a significant real estate endeavor, was most notably inspired by Gene Hackman’s unique desert-chic Santa Fe residence. This Pueblo Revival home, designed by Stephen Samuelson, graced the cover of Architectural Digest in 2011 and was praised for its “ambitious, bespoke design and worldly architectural inspirations.”

The expansive estate results from a collaborative effort, forged by the skilled hands of hundreds of artisans – woodworkers, metalworkers, stone masons, and upholsters – all of whom contributed to its creation. Jada Pinkett Smith once described the building process as “a spiritual endeavor.”

The main house spans over 25,000 square feet, featuring nine bedrooms and thirteen bathrooms. Its detailed interior customization features a luxurious master suite and an oversized closet. Inside this grand-style home, there is a dedicated meditation room, a state-of-the-art recording studio, and a full cinema wing. Pinkett-Smith reportedly filmed her popular talk show, “Red Table Talk,” inside their Calabasas residence. 

The secluded property can easily be mistaken for a retreat with its resort-like amenities. The “Bad Boys” actor shared with Architectural Digest that their lake gazebo, accessible across a bridge, serves as his favorite place to unwind, stating, “answers come to me out there.” 

Smith briefly listed the property for sale in 2014 for a jaw-dropping $42 million but eventually pulled the listing. Today, although it remains unclear who currently resides in the Smith family home, recent aerial photos suggest that it is far from abandoned. Parked on the property is Jaden’s free vegan food truck for the homeless with the pinned name, “I Love You Restaurant’ – a project he launched on his 21st birthday in 2019.
