Long before he was named one of the co-chairs of the 2025 Met Gala, fans have been following A$AP Rocky’s incredible style journey. That journey has taken Rocky from New York City to Paris, where the rapper just showed off his latest AWGE collection at Paris Men’s Fashion Week with a spectacular show. The collection, titled “Obligatory Fashion,” was a mix of suiting and streetwear and featured models walking to new music by the “Sundress” artist.

At the end of the show, Rocky took a victory lap, celebrating a successful collection reveal with his son Riot in his arms. Most fans were impressed with what they saw, including one who said they believe Rocky’s fashion future is bright.

Michelle Obama tearfully shared three words her dying mother said that have changed the way she looks at life. 

The 61-year-old former First Lady’s mother, Marian Robinson, who had become a fixture in the family unit while they were in the White House, died in May 2024 at 86.

While speaking with NPR’s Rachel Martin on the “Wild Card” podcast, Obama opened up about her mother’s final moments, including some of the wisdom she imparted before she died. 

Obama recalled taking care of her mother during her final year at their family’s home in Hawaii when Robinson revealed her thoughts on dying to her daughter. 

“She was realizing that she will not ever be the same old self that she was. She was starting to realize she’s coming to the end,” Obama said. “And this woman that prepared me for death and talked to me about all this stuff and was like, ‘I’m ready to die, who needs old people around too long,’ and blah, blah, blah. She leaned over to me and said, ‘Wow, this went fast.’”

“I held her hand and said, ‘What are you talking about?’” Obama continued. “And she said, ‘Life.’ She said, ‘This went fast.’”

Obama began to understand then that even if a person feels ready for the end, especially if they’ve led a good life, “you’re never really ready for it to end.” 

She added, “I hope I feel that way — even though I will be ready for it, because it’s been good and purposeful — that I’ll feel like, ‘I wish I had more time.’ So I’m trying to live my life like that.”

She reflected on the last decade since her husband Barack left office, including sending her adult daughters, Malia, 26, and Sasha, 24, both to college, the release of multiple books and the launch of her podcast with her brother, “IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson.”

“I did a lot,” she noted. “Two, three books, blah, blah, blah. There’s a lot that happened, but it went by fast. And I’m at the stage of life where I want the next 10 years to go by slowly. Because guess what? I love life.”

The podcast host and author said her mother’s reflection has profoundly impacted how she views time in her own life. 

“My husband thinks this is morbid — but at 61, if I am lucky, if I am truly blessed, I have like, 25 more summers,” she expressed.

“With 25 more summers, I want to feel each one of them,” she continued. “A day of nothing is one of those nice, slow days where you look up and go, ‘Oh man, it’s only noon.’ I want more of those.”

Just months after her mother’s passing, on what would have been her 87th birthday in July 2024, Obama penned an emotional tribute to Robinson that celebrated her for always “feeling like she was enough.”

“And because she felt like she was enough, she could help others feel that, too,” she continued. “She did that countless times for me and my brother, Craig. She did it for her family and friends. She did it for the staff at the White House. She did it for everyone she knew.”

Caught Stealing

After a weekend of setbacks, the Senate will try to sprint ahead Monday on President Donald Trump’s big bill of tax breaks and spending cuts despite a series of challenges, including the sudden announcement from one GOP senator that he won’t run for reelection after opposing the package over its Medicaid health care cuts.

An all-night session to consider an endless stream of proposed amendments to the package, in what’s called a vote-a-rama, was abruptly postponed, and it’s now scheduled to launch as soon as the Senate gavels open. With Democrats united against the Republican president’s legislation and eagerly lined up to challenge it, the voting could take all day.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer of New York said the “hardest choices” for Republicans are still to come. His side plans to bring “amendment after amendment after amendment to the floor, so Republicans can defend their billionaire tax cuts and so they can try to explain their massive cuts to Medicaid to people back home.”

The hours ahead will be pivotal for the Republicans, who have control of the Congress and are racing against Trump’s Fourth of July deadline to wrap up work. The 940-page “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” as it is now formally titled, has consumed the Congress as its shared priority with the president, with no room politically to fail, even as not all Republicans are on board.

A new analysis from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office found that 11.8 million more Americans would become uninsured by 2034 if the bill became law. It also said the package would increase the deficit by nearly $3.3 trillion over the decade.

House Speaker Mike Johnson’s leadership team has recalled lawmakers back to Washington for voting in the House as soon as Wednesday, if the legislation can first clear the Senate.

But the outcome remains uncertain, especially after a weekend of work in the Senate that brought less visible progress on securing enough Republican support, over Democratic opposition, for passage.

Senators to watch

Few Republicans appear fully satisfied as the final package emerges. GOP Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina, who announced Sunday he would not seek reelection after Trump badgered him over his opposition to the package, said he has the same goals as Trump, cutting taxes and spending.

But Tillis said this package is a betrayal of the president’s promises not to kick people off health care, especially if rural hospitals close.

“We could take the time to get this right,” he thundered.

At the same time, some loosely aligned conservative Senate Republicans — Rick Scott of Florida, Mike Lee of Utah, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming — have pushed for steeper cuts, particularly to health care, drawing their own warning from Trump.

“Don’t go too crazy!” the president posted on social media. “REMEMBER, you still have to get reelected.”

GOP leaders barely secured enough support to muscle the legislation past a procedural Saturday night hurdle in a tense scene. A handful of Republican holdouts revolted, and it took phone calls from Trump and a visit from Vice President JD Vance to keep it on track.

As Saturday’s vote tally teetered, attention turned to Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, who was surrounded by GOP leaders in intense conversation. She voted “yes.”

Several provisions in the package including a higher tax deduction for native whalers and potential waivers from food stamps or Medicaid changes are being called the “Polar Payoff” designed for her state. But some were found to be out of compliance with the rules by the Senate parliamentarian.

What’s in the big bill

All told, the Senate bill includes some $4 trillion in tax cuts, making permanent Trump’s 2017 rates, which would expire at the end of the year if Congress fails to act, while adding the new ones he campaigned on, including no taxes on tips.

The Senate package would roll back billions of dollars in green energy tax credits that Democrats warn will wipe out wind and solar investments nationwide and impose $1.2 trillion in cuts, largely to Medicaid and food stamps, by imposing work requirements, making sign-up eligibility more stringent and changing federal reimbursements to states.

Additionally, the bill would provide a $350 billion infusion for border and national security, including for deportations, some of it paid for with new fees charged to immigrants.

Democrats ready to fight

Unable to stop the march toward passage, the Democrats as the minority party in Congress are using the tools at their disposal to delay and drag out the process.

Democrats forced a full reading of the text, which took 16 hours. Then Democratic senators took over Sunday’s debate, filling the chamber with speeches, while Republicans largely stood aside.

“Reckless and irresponsible,” said Sen. Gary Peters, a Democrat from Michigan.

“A gift to the billionaire class,” said Vermont’s Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent who caucuses with Democrats.

“Follow what the Bible teaches us: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” said Sen. Ben Ray Lujan, D-N.M., as Sunday’s debate pushed past midnight.

Sen. Patty Murray of Washington, the ranking Democrat on the Appropriations Committee, raised particular concern about the accounting method being used by the Republicans, which says the tax breaks from Trump’s first term are now “current policy” and the cost of extending them should not be counted toward deficits.

“In my 33 years here in the United States Senate, things have never — never — worked this way,” said Murray, the longest-serving Democrat on the Budget Committee.

She said that kind of “magic math” won’t fly with Americans trying to balance their own household books.

“Go back home,” she said, “and try that game with your constituents.”

One thing a Black woman will never hold back on is speaking her mind, especially when it comes to her hair. On a recent episode of “Pop The Balloon or Find Love,” a male contestant learned the hard way after making some tone-deaf remarks about hair preference for his future partner. What started as an awkward moment turned into a teachable one, all thanks to a sharp response from one of the panel members. Don’t worry, we’ll break down what happened. 

The hit YouTube dating show, “Pop The Balloon or Find Love,” features a single person facing a panel of potential partners, who are all ready to pop a balloon to show rejection. In this viral clip, host Arlette Amuli approached a female panelist to ask why she popped her balloon.

The panelist said to the man, “You’re attractive, you got it going on,” adding, “but that comment about hair…I know your mama got short hair too; she’s Black. At the end of the day, you don’t know what to expect with our hair.” She went on to explain the versatility of Black women’s hair, stating, “We can wear it straight, we can wear it curly,” while emphasizing his comments were “too much.” While other contestants nodded in agreement, the female panelist concluded, “If you can’t grow up from your roots, you can’t grow up with me.”

The male contestant seemed taken aback. He corrected her remark about his mother, stating, “Interesting, I mean my mom is actually on my necklace, and she doesn’t have short hair.” The female panelist interrupted him, replying, “It doesn’t matter; it’s about who you are as a brother. Hair doesn’t make your personality, you dig me? It’s about who you are.” 

Passionately, she explained that hair confidence comes in all forms, noting that many women with “long hair” often have thin hair. “I have a salon. When I was 16, I bought my mother a salon with the business I do, so I’ve dealt with many types of hair,” she explained while acknowledging her mother and shouting out her hometown of Philadelphia. “But what you said, it’s just not for me. You really need to check your ends before you talk about long or short hair.” Oop.

“Sounds triggered,” the male contestant responded, causing Amuli to look awkward as the debate deepened. “First of all, I never said the hairstyle she had was not good,” he explained before the female panelist jumped in midsentence.

“You said you only like girls with long hair,” she interjected, “that’s not right. You should have never said that at all.” She continued, asserting that as a Black man, he should have simply said “you just weren’t my type,” rather than dismissing her because of her hair length. She reaffirmed that she wasn’t triggered, reminding him that his hair texture is a representation of his Black origin. 

“Can I talk, or are you going to ignore me again?” the constant sarcastically asked. “Her hairstyle, it’s nothing wrong with it, so it’s my preference, right? So, if I’m here to date, I’m here to find someone for me.”

He concluded that his comments about another woman have nothing to do with her. He further asks, “Are you here to find a man or are you here..,” he said before the panelist clapped back, “I’m not here to find you! I’m here to find someone who is going to accept me, flaws and all.” Not backing down, she ended the conversation, stating, “Know what you say before you speak to Black women.” 

TikTok users rallied to her defense in the comment section of the heated debate. One commenter said, “Your “preference” is anti-black. She’s not triggered, she’s standing on business.” Comments poured in, showing Black women uniting against the male contestant’s remarks. One TikTok user posted, “Was she triggered? Yes. Was it valid? Yes. Was her message important? Absolutely.” Another user said, “You want Becky, just get Becky. It’s simple.”

Democratic former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman was honored for her legislative accomplishments and her humanity during a funeral Saturday, where former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris joined over 1,000 mourners.

Hortman was fatally shot two weeks earlier by a man posing as a police officer in an attack that Minnesota’s chief federal prosecutor has called an assassination. It and another shooting also left her husband, Mark, dead and a state senator and his wife seriously wounded.

“Melissa Hortman will be remembered as the most consequential speaker in Minnesota history. I get to remember her as a close friend, a mentor, and the most talented legislator I have ever known,” Gov. Tim Walz said in his eulogy. ”For seven years, I have had the privilege of signing her agenda into law. I know millions of Minnesotans get to live their lives better because she and Mark chose public service and politics.”

The service

Neither Biden nor Harris spoke, but they sat in the front row with the governor, who was Harris’ running mate in 2024. Biden and Harris held hands during the Lord’s Prayer, a common practice, before embracing during the passing of the peace. Biden and Harris then reached over to shake Walz’s hand.

Biden was also one of more than 7,500 people who paid their respects Friday as Hortman, her husband, Mark, and their golden retriever, Gilbert, lay in state in the Minnesota Capitol rotunda in St. Paul. Gilbert was seriously wounded in the attack and had to be euthanized. Biden also visited the wounded senator in a hospital.

Dozens of current and former state legislators from both parties and other elected officials who worked with Hortman also attended.

Hortman, who was first elected in 2004, helped pass an expansive agenda of liberal initiatives like free lunches for public school students during the momentous 2023 session as the chamber’s speaker, along with expanded protections for abortion and trans rights. With the House split 67-67 between Democrats and Republicans this year, she yielded the gavel to a Republican under a power-sharing deal, took the title speaker emerita, and helped break a budget impasse that threatened to shut down state government.

The governor’s eulogy

Walz said Hortman saw her mission as “to get as much good done for as many people as possible.” And he said her focus on people was what made her so effective.

“She certainly knew how to get her way. No doubt about that,” Walz said. “But she never made anyone feel that they’d gotten rolled at a negotiating table. That wasn’t part of it for her, or a part of who she was. She didn’t need somebody else to lose to win for her.”

The governor said the best way to honor the Hortmans would be by following their example.

“Maybe it is this moment where each of us can examine the way we work together, the way we talk about each other, the way we fight for things we care about,” Walz said. “A moment when each of us can recommit to engaging in politics and life the way Mark and Melissa did — fiercely, enthusiastically, heartily, but without ever losing sight of our common humanity.”

The homily

The Rev. Daniel Griffith, pastor and rector of the Basilica, who led the service, said the country is in need of deep healing. He said it seems as if the U.S. is living in the “dystopian reality” described at the beginning of William Butler Yeats’ poem, “The Second Coming.”

“Here in Minnesota, we have been the ground zero place, sadly, for racial injustice,” Griffith said. “The killing of George Floyd just miles from our church today. And now we are the ground zero place for political violence and extremism. Both of these must be decried in the strongest possible terms, as they are, respectively, a threat to human dignity and indeed, our democracy.”

But the priest also said Minnesota could also be “a ground zero place for restoration and justice and healing.” He added that the presence of so many people was a sign that that work can succeed.

Archbishop Bernard Hebda of the Saint Paul and Minneapolis Archdiocese offered his condolences to the Hortman family.

A private burial will be held at a later date.

The Hortmans were proud of their adult children, Sophie and Colin Hortman, and the lawmaker often spoke of them.

In a voice choked with emotion, Colin said his parents embodied the Golden Rule, and he read the Prayer of St. Francis, which his mother always kept in her wallet. He said it captures her essence. It starts, “Lord make me an instrument of your peace.”

After the service, Walz presented the children with U.S. and Minnesota flags that flew over the Capitol on the day their parents were killed.

The suspect

The man accused of killing the Hortmans at their home in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Park on June 14, and wounding Democratic state Sen. John Hoffman, and his wife, Yvette, at their home in nearby Champlin, made a brief court appearance Friday. He’s due back in court Thursday.

Vance Boelter, 57, of Green Isle, surrendered near his home the night of June 15 after what authorities called the largest search in Minnesota history.

Boelter remains jailed and has not entered a plea. Prosecutors need to secure a grand jury indictment first. His lawyers have declined to comment on the charges, which could carry the federal death penalty.

Friends have described Boelter as an evangelical Christian with politically conservative views. But prosecutors have declined so far to speculate on a motive.
