Sabrina Carpenter Addresses NYC Mayor Eric Adams’ Indictment – Where Is The Buzz

[ad_1]

Sabrina Carpenter made headlines on the night of her sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden on September 29 when she decided to address recent accusations made against New York City mayor, Eric Adams.

The 25-year-old singer was riding high with her Short ‘n Sweet tour and gave a cheeky mention of the indictments against the mayor. “Damn, what now?” Sabrina quipped in a video posted on Twitter/X from the concert. “Should we talk about how I got the mayor indicted, or?”

The moment sent buzz through the crowd, mostly because of her indirect association in the controversy surrounding the case. The Feather music video was filmed partially within a Brooklyn church, which became the subject of a scandal that preceded the eventual demotion of a Catholic priest for permitting the filming. The scandal caught the eye of the feds, which recently issued a subpoena to the church relating to business transactions involving Mayor Adams’ former chief of staff.

Though the video itself did not land Sabrina in legal trouble, the attention brought to the church may have sparked an inquiry, which made her remarks more magnified during the concert.

For an uninitiated, Eric Adams is facing five charges, with the details of the indictment still unfolding. Both Sabrina Carpenter’s fans and New Yorkers keep close tabs on the development.

Beyoncé flaunts her ‘Levii’s Jeans’ in new campaign

[ad_1]

Beyoncé is now the star of Levi’s Jeans’ latest global campaign. Today, the “Cowboy Carter” singer joined the legacy jeans company to launch the first part of the “Reiimagine” campaign, an initiative combining Beyoncé’s influence as a visionary and the legacy of Levi’s brand.

“The Levi’s® brand has and always will be the unofficial uniform for those moving forward in the pursuit of better. We believe a key part of that is continuously breaking and building the codes of culture,” said Kenny Mitchell, global chief marketing officer of the Levi’s® brand at Levi Strauss & Co., in a press release. “In collaboration with Beyoncé, we explore the power of reimagination through this campaign, helping us to connect with our fans in new ways and supporting the growth of our women’s business as the definitive denim lifestyle brand.”

Just as Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” album redefined Americana, the first series of her Levi’s brand collaboration reimagines some of the denim company’s most iconic advertisements. Inspired by the brand’s classic look and films, “Chapter 1” is a modern iteration of Levi’s 1985 campaign, “Launderette.”

“My song ‘LEVII’S JEANS’ celebrates what I believe is the ultimate Americana uniform — something we all wear with pride. I am honored to work with Levi’s® to create quintessential American iconography,” Beyoncé added. “Denim on denim has often been seen through a male lens, so this reimagining campaign, which celebrates the iconic female perspective, is important to me. I look forward to exploring innovative ways for our visions to align in empowering women and honoring their strength.”

Similar to the 1980s version of the campaign, Beyoncé is seen walking into a laundromat and stripping down to wash her pair of Levi’s 501 jeans as her song “Levii’s Jeans” featuring Post Malone plays in the background.

While many believe that her “Cowboy Carter” album inspired the denim collaboration, members of the Beyhive noted how the song is actually an ode to Beyoncé’s past as a member of Destiny’s Child. As the star mentioned in her CFDA Fashion Icon Award speech in 2016, as the girl group rose to stardom, Beyoncé recalls high-end designers not wanting to “ dress four Black country curvy girls.” While most designers refused to work with the trio, Levi’s was one of the first brands to partner with Destiny’s Child, making them the face of Levi’s “Low Rise Jeans” ad.

With plans to reinterpret several of the brand’s iconic campaigns, Beyoncé and Levi’s “Reiimagine” campaign will reportedly include television, out-of-home, digital, social media, print, brand activations, and exclusive products.

In honor of the release of “Launderette,” fans can shop the pieces seen on the award-winning star here.

The fallout from the release of the late Kim Porter’s “memoir” continues. Page Six has reported that Porter’s ex Al B. Sure! sent a cease-and-desist letter to both Amazon and the “mysterious” publisher of the now-infamous book. As The Root reported over the weekend, the book claiming to be Porter’s memoir alleges that multiple celebrities engaged in sexual activities with Sean “Diddy” Combs, including Al B. Sure!

Al’s lawyer Robert J. Hantman sent the cease-and-desist letter on Friday according to Page Six, claiming that he has been “defamed by false and malicious statements published.”

“By misrepresenting his personal life and fabricating serious, false accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior, these defamatory claims have caused significant damage to Mr. Brown’s reputation,” the letter reads.

In addition to the cease-and-desist letter, Al has also demanded a public apology and that the author should stop selling the book. Per the letter, the apology “must be clear, unequivocal, and widely circulated.” Sure! also called the allegation “the most disgusting, heinous lie I have ever heard of in my life” in a statement to Page Six.

As The Root reported, the book titled “Kim’s Lost Words” has created quite the stir since it was self-published. The “memoir” includes shocking claims that Diddy allegedly slept with Al, as well as Jay-Z, Will Smith, Clive Davis, Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, and Jamie Foxx.

It also alleges that the disgraced musician made sexual advances towards Tupac and that Porter found tapes of Diddy’s sexual encounters and “confronted” him about it.

Despite Al, Diddy and Porter’s kids and others close to Porter publicly saying that the memoir is “not true,” the book has still become a bestseller, fueling the current media cycle surrounding Diddy and various conspiracy theories regarding his alleged crimes.

Harris-Walz campaign trolls Trump and Vance, warns Black voters on threats to health care

[ad_1]

The Harris-Walz campaign is putting Donald Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, on defense when it comes to their record on health care, a top policy issue after the economy for many Black voters.

With only five weeks left until Election Day on Nov. 5, Vice President Kamala Harris’ team published a report that the campaign is touting as the Trump-Vance “concept” plan on health care.

During his first debate against Harris, Trump claimed to have a “concept of a plan” when pressed on what he would do in the absence of the Affordable Care Act — also known as Obamacare — which he vowed for years to repeal.

The Harris-Walz campaign’s “report” compiles policy positions and public pronouncements from Trump and Vance, with the aim of laying out to impacted voters what a second Trump administration would mean for millions of Americans currently insured under a federal plan.

In an exclusive statement to theGrio, the Harris-Walz campaign emphasized what a White House controlled by Trump and Vance would mean for millions of Black Americans who currently have health insurance because of the 2010 health care law passed by former President Barack Obama.

“From the very beginning of this election, Donald Trump has been obsessed with repealing the signature achievement of the first Black president: Obamacare — which would result in health care coverage being ripped from millions of Black Americans,” Jasmine Harris, director of Black Media for the Harris-Walz campaign, told theGrio.

The campaign official said as vice president, Kamala Harris, along with President Joe Biden, “worked tirelessly to both protect and expand needed health care coverage for hard-working Americans.” She added, “The current administration has worked to ensure that more Black Americans have health care coverage now than ever before.”

Since launching his 2016 presidential campaign nine years ago, Trump made eliminating the ACA one of his signature policy goals. But as president, he and Republicans in Congress failed to develop a plan good enough to replace a health care system that has added more than 40 million Americans to insurance plans.

As the 2024 Republican presidential and vice presidential nominees, Trump and Vance also railed against President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act. The climate and health care law, made possible by Harris casting a tie-breaking vote in the U.S. Senate, allows Medicare to better negotiate drug prices with pharmaceutical companies and caps the price of insulin for seniors.

Jasmine Harris, who has no relation to the vice president, said, “Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda and related health care plan would be a disaster for our community.” She added, “From working to cap the cost of insulin at $35 for all Americans to leading the charge in combating the Black maternal health crisis — Kamala Harris is the only candidate in this election who is prioritizing health care for Black America.”

Daniel Dawes, senior vice president and founding dean at the School of Global Health at Meharry Medical College, told theGrio that Trump’s “threats to dismantle” the ACA and cut Medicaid funding could “significantly reduce access” to health insurance programs and disproportionately harm Black Americans.

“His policies, including block granting and restricting Medicaid eligibility, increasing verification requirements, and reducing essential health benefits under Obamacare, would limit access to affordable care and worsen health disparities,” said Dawes, who previously served on an advisory board at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Trump’s political aim to repeal the Affordable Care Act and his record would lead to “retrenchment or regression” of policies that have expanded health rights and access to health resources to “prevent or treat chronic diseases and public health threats that disproportionately impact Black Americans,” noted Dawes.

He said those health threats include HIV, mental illness, gun violence, among others.

Though the ACA led to a significant increase of insured Black Americans, they are still disproportionately uninsured compared to white Americans, according to data tracked by KFF.

Black Americans also face racial disparities in health conditions. Health experts point out that repealing Obamacare would also mean Americans with preexisting conditions — who are disproportionately Black — would lose critical and life-saving health care, including those with private insurers.

The Harris-Walz report on the Trump-Vance plan cites data from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities that shows that repealing the ACA would increase the number of uninsured Black Americans to 20%, up from 11%.

The campaign’s report also warns of Trump’s proposed 20% tariff on all imported goods, including medicine. Drug prices would increase disproportionately for Black and Latino households, the campaign cautioned. The Trump-Vance “concept” plan would also include existing abortion bans, which the campaign cites would lead to a 12.3% increase of Black maternal deaths.

By contrast, the Harris-Walz campaign platform says its goals are to increase the insured rate among Black Americans to 90% and lowering health care premiums by an average of about $800 a year for millions of Americans.

The campaign also touts Harris’ work on expanding health care and lowering cost as vice president, including her explicit call for states to expand their Medicaid postpartum coverage from two months to 12 months. To date, 43 states have expanded that coverage. The Harris camp also notes that the Biden-Harris administration increased the number of Black and brown physicians, licensed midwives, doulas, and community health workers.

Dawes said the vice president’s track record and proposals “demonstrate an explicit and full commitment to prioritizing and actualizing health equity,” including racial disparities in maternal health, mental health and LGBTQ+ care.

He told theGrio, “Her efforts to strengthen Medicaid, support reproductive rights … and address the social determinants of health aim to ensure continued federal efforts to address the issues that have been denying Black Americans the opportunity to reach their full health potential.”

Harris-Walz Drags Trump-Vance Ticket on Healthcare Plan

[ad_1]

In a move that calls back to the last presidential debate, the Harris-Walz campaign has gone into attack mode against the Trump-Vance ticket on the topic of healthcare.

When Trump was asked that night about his alternative to Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act, Trump responded, in part, that he had “concepts of a plan,” making for one of the most viral moments of the debate. Ahead of this week’s Vice Presidential debate on Tuesday, Oct. 1, the Democratic ticket has released a report that they claim picks apart the Trump-Vance campaign’s “concept” — and the harm that it would have.

On Monday, Sept. 30, the Harris-Walz campaign released “The Trump Vance ‘Concept’ On Health Care:’ A Plan To Rip Away Coverage from People With Pre-Existing Conditions and Raise Costs for Millions.” The 43-page document on Harris’ campaign website picks apart the Republican ticket’s quotes about healthcare, and cites various critiques that have been made against their strategy.

In the presidential debate, Trump said that while the Affordable Care Act — colloquially known as “Obamacare” — was “lousy,” that he wouldn’t move to repeal it until his administration could “come up with a plan that’s going to cost … less money and be better health care.” Moments later, when asked for clarification, he gave the aforementioned quote about “concepts of a plan.” But in an interview with NBC’s Meet The Press weeks later, Republican Vice Presidential Candidate JD Vance gave a more detailed explanation, stating that Trump wants to implement “some deregulatory agenda” that separates Americans into different risk pools. He stated that insurance companies should be able to separate Americans into different risk pools to “promote some more choice in our healthcare system and not have a one-size-fits-all approach.”

The Harris-Walz campaign’s new report sharply criticizes the approach. They say the Trump-Vance plan has four concepts: “rip insurance away from millions, including those with pre-existing conditions;” “raise the costs of prescription drugs and health insurance;” “cut Medicare and slash Medicaid;” and “ban abortion nationwide and rip away reproductive health.” They also continue to link Trump-Vance to Project 2025, the controversial initiative published by a conservative think tank called Heritage Foundation; Trump has denied any connection to the platform.

The report cites a statement by Center on Budget and Policy Priorities that repealing the ACA would increase the number of uninsured Black households without coverage by 85%, and the number of Hispanic Americans without coverage by 40%. And according to Harris-Walz, Trump has already made a negative impact with the overturning of Roe v. Wade, a Supreme Court ruling determined by judges appointed by Trump. The report cites statistics from National Partnership that “nearly seven million Black women and six million Latinas” live under what Harris has labeled as “Trump Abortion Bans.”

“Following the announcement of the HBCU homecoming tour, the Harris-Walz campaign is continuing to underscore the stakes of this election for Black America. If elected, Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda would be a complete disaster for our community that could worsen Black health outcomes across the board,” said Harris-Walz 2024 National Black Engagement Director Christale Spain, in a statement provided to The Root. “Vice President Harris is working to turn the page on Trump and chart a new way forward that includes capping the cost of insulin at $35 for all Americans, increasing the health insurance rate for Black Americans, and protecting a women’s right to make her own healthcare decisions in an effort to combat the current Black maternal healthcare crisis.”

LSU football, trippin’ out and TikTok walk into a bar … stop me if you’ve heard this one before

[ad_1]

Editor’s note: The following article is an op-ed, and the views expressed are the author’s own. Read more opinions on theGrio.

I am not a fan of Louisiana State University’s (LSU) collegiate athletic teams. Full stop. I am a fan of the University of Alabama’s Crimson Tide football team, a team that is often competing against LSU for the crown as champion of the Southeastern Conference. I want that to be very, very clear.

With that said, I also love entertainment, and while Alabama has been racking up college football championships (or being in the conversation) for years, LSU has been doing the same but also taking up space in the hearts and minds of the college football-watching public with their entertaining post-touchdown celebrations.

Apparently, the social media world agrees because LSU football celebrations (I guess we’ve taken to referring to them as “cellys”) have become a thing on TikTok. If you wade at all in the waters of TikTok, then you have probably come across videos of kids trippin’ out or doing a dance called the “trip out,” which is largely just gyrating rapidly; you can add various other steps depending on your own level of coordination and creativity.

Do you know who else is really good at this? Members of the LSU Tigers football team, who are often featured in videos AND being mimicked by other people demonstrating what it must be like to be on the LSU Tigers football team. And you know what? That looks quite joyous. I ain’t gon’ hold you, I’ve been walking around my house also pretending to be a member of LSU’s football team who has just caught a touchdown pass.

Lifestyle

Here’s the thing: This dance has gone viral not just because of LSU but because of all of the people who have hopped into the kitchen to cook up their own versions. For instance, the first time I ever saw somebody “trip out” was a hilarious video of now famous No. 48 who tripped that thing out in support of the homie. I had no idea I was watching a kid turn into a legend but here we are.

You know, it has to be said that so many people over the years — purists and haters, alike — have attempted to steal the joy from kids across the nation who feel compelled to do end zone celebrations. There have been penalties and the like for excessive celebrations, to the point where rules were put in place to limit certain behaviors; there was a time when a celebration deemed “too excessive” could result in a penalty at the discretion of the referee. That is insane to me; these kids are out there playing a game and that means when you do something amazing, the first response is usually one of celebration. I suppose the NCAA, the governing body for college athletics, has come to its senses and has allowed dancing and the like to occur as long as it isn’t overly mean to an opponent.

That bit of daylight has opened the door for youthful creativity to thrive and thus we get athletes on the field taking the dances that have taken over TikTok and other social media platforms and incorporating them into their touchdown celebrations. I think the world is a better place for it. So I hope these kids keep dancing and keep inspiring the social media world to share their moments of glory.

Even if, for now, LSU gets to be the face of it on social media. Like all good things that happen at LSU, I imagine it’s only a matter of time before Alabama steamrolls that joy.

Roll Tide.

Wild Allegations in Kim Porter’s Alleged Memoir About Diddy

[ad_1]

As the late Kim Porter’s “memoir”—“Kim’s Lost Words: A journey for justice, from the other side…”—continues to make waves on Amazon’s Best-Seller list and on social media, many are starting to dissect the ins and outs of the allegedly true book about her relationship with Diddy.

In addition to prompting Porter’s kids, her ex-husband Al B. Sure and even Diddy himself to come out and say the book is fake and an attempt to capitalize on her death and the things happening currently, it’s garnering negative reactions from a few of the celebs mentioned in it — including singer Faith Evans.

According to an insider close to Faith, they told the Daily Mail that the “Soon As I Get Home” singer is considering taking legal action against the allegations in the book, specifically that Diddy allegedly set her up to be with the late rapper Biggie in order to “monitor him” and that she allegedly always believed that Diddy was behind his murder.

In addition to those allegations, there a number of even more wild accusations in 60-page- book, here are a few of them:

Kim Porter Alleges Sexual Activity Between Diddy and Numerous Stars, Musicians

TikTok user Americanfille posted a six-part summary of the book, in which Porter allegedly claimed that Diddy allegedly engaged in sexual activity with a handful of celebs and music stars like Jay-Z, Will Smith, Clive Davis, Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, Jamie Foxx and more.

She also claimed that she and Diddy allegedly had an “open relationship” where they would bring multiple women and men into their bed. Porter also alleged that she and her ex-husband Al B. Sure had a threesome with Diddy. Porter is also alleged to have slept with Jada Pinkett-Smith as well.

Diddy Allegedly Withheld Money Biggie Made with Bad Boy from His Mother After His Passing

In one chapter of the book, Porter is alleged to have been present at a dinner where Biggie Smalls’ mother Voletta Wallace confronted Diddy about her son and asked to receive some of the money he made through his career in order to help her get through but Diddy denied doing so.

Kim Porter Allegedly Found Vault with Tapes of Diddy’s Sexual Encounters and Confronted Him About It

The book details a rocky period between Porter and Diddy. She’s alleged to have found a vault where Diddy kept tapes of all his sexual encounters and subsequently made copies of them to use as leverage to break up with him and expose him if he tried to stop her.

When the time came, Porter confronted Diddy while Kimora Lee Simmons was present and told him she was going to release about the tapes. They then got in a fight which ultimately led to the Bad Boy mogul being hospitalized. Not too long after, Porter became ill with pneumonia.

Kim Alleged That Diddy Made Sexual Advances Towards Tupac

In a different part of the book, Porter is alleged to have witnessed Diddy make sexual advances towards with the “Keep Ya Head Up” rapper though he was always denying him. The book also claimed that Porter and Pac slept together and that Diddy was upset by that and Pac’s refusal to sleep with him.

Porter then went on to claim that those frustrations led to him ultimately setting up the shooting against Tupac at Quad Recording Studios back in 1994. The book also claimed that Pac and Biggie were going to form a joint label and that because Diddy felt as if Biggie wasn’t loyal to him — that was the driving factor behind why he wanted to start a beef between the two rappers.

Diddy Allegedly Slept With Young Boys

In the book, Porter is alleged to have watched the tapes and saw Diddy have sexual encounters with young artists such as Bow Wow, Usher and Justin Bieber. Afterwards, she claimed she had worrisome thoughts that Diddy would be grooming her son Quincy though she didn’t come out right and say that it actually happened.
