White Folks Don’t Wash with Towels; Black Folks Do.Who’s Right?

[ad_1]

Since the beginning of time, cultural debates have left our country polarized – Republican or Democrat, Coke or Pepsi, iPhone or Android and Biggie or Tupac are just a few of the topics that can kick off a major beef between people on opposite sides.

Another one of these divisive debates is the decision whether or not to use washcloths while bathing. The argument is clearly one that exists across racial lines, with most Black people being team washcloth, while white people are using – wait for it – their hands.

If you’re reading this and wondering why it’s even a question, this hilarious clip from “The Neighborhood” sums it up best:

The black/white washcloth debate

Whether you were taught to call it a “washcloth” or a “rag,” if you grew up in a Black household, you were most likely taught to use some kind of cloth to bathe yourself clean. But as much as we hate to break it you, not everyone is convinced that way is best. In a May episode of the “Causing a Scene” podcast, white hosts Sara Gretzky and Natalie Buck seemed genuinely disgusted at the idea of using anything other than your hand to wash your body.

“Am I scrubbing my body with a washcloth? Absolutely not! That is a UTI waiting to happen,” said Buck.

The video, which has received nearly four million views, was flooded with comments from people on both sides.

“I don’t use a washcloth either. So much more hygienic,” wrote someone who agreed with the idea that the hand is a much cleaner way to wash.

But there were others who were completely baffled Sara and Natalie’s decision not to use a cloth.

“That’s why I don’t eat every body cooking, you prepared food with your wash cloth hands,” wrote someone.

“Not using a wash cloth is like saying you might as well not brush your teeth with a toothbrush use your finger instead 😳,” wrote another commenter.

Some online having even tried to bring class into the debate, like married comedians Christina Pazsitzky and Tom Segura on a 2023 episode of their “Your Mom’s House” podcast. The couple agreed that no one with money would dare wash with a cloth.

“Washcloths are for poor people,” Tom said.

We don’t even have to tell you that Black people completely destroyed them in the comments.

“Ah yes, buying a washcloth, something that’s entire purpose is to clean is what broke people do. Makes total sense,” wrote someone.

“Well, I guess I’m poor. CLEAN but poor. I’m good with that. LOL!” wrote another.

Now that we know what the internet is saying, what do the experts think? You may be surprised to learn that the medical community is as divided as the rest of social media.

Colorado-based dermatologist Dr. Reagan Anderson says using a washcloth can almost be as bad as not washing at all, calling the cloth a “petri dish for bacteria” holding all of the oil and dead skin cells you scrub away each day. Anderson adds that even if you change your cloth every day, you’re essentially using a “mild form of sandpaper” to scratch your skin off. Ouch!

But we also found Black doctors who say there’s nothing wrong with getting a little help from a rag.

Dr. Rosemare Ingleton says that while your hand and good soap are enough to get you clean, she’s still a woman of the cloth – as long as you let it dry completely between uses and change it often for the ultimately hygienic experience.

“Obviously, I’m team washcloth,” she said in a TikTok video. “There’s a cultural aspect to this. I’m Jamaican and that’s how we were raised.”

Black dermatologist Dr. Renée A. Beach says you do not need to wash with a cloth, adding that they make eczema worse and make hyperpigmentation more prominent.

“Trust in your finger pads, trust in gravity and water pressure and the fact that our cleansers nowadays are better,” she said in a video on TikTok. “Unless you’re dealing with paint, unless you’re caked in mud, you really don’t have that much to cleanse that a wash rag would need.”

White dermatologist Dr. Dray believes there’s nothing wrong with using a washcloth, as long as you keep it clean and don’t scrub your skin too hard.

“Fun fact about a washcloth – you can wash them,” she said on TikTok.

Board certified dermatologist @drjeaneenchappell agrees, saying a washcloth will not give you a yeast infection.

And there’s Dr. Jen Caudle, who says washcloths (rather than your hands or a loofah) are necessary to get those often neglected cracks and crevices like inside the ear and inside of the belly button.

“I need you to be lifting up stuff. Lift up the folds. Lift up the boobs. Lift up the belly flap. Any folds you got need to be washed,” she said in a YouTube video. “I am team washcloth all day, everyday.”

How to Properly Wash Your Body | A Doctor Explains

While the world may never be able to agree on whether or not you can really get clean without a washcloth, can we at least agree that it’s iPhone over Android all day?

The team announced the signing Thursday. ESPN first reported the agreement was in place, and Curry’s agent, Jeff Austin of Octagon, later confirmed it to The Associated Press.

Curry is now guaranteed about $178 million for the next three seasons; about $55.8 million for this season, about $59.6 million for 2025-26 and now about $62.6 million — the most the Warriors could offer by league rule — for 2026-27.

When that season ends, Curry’s on-court earnings will have reached about $532 million, which for now ranks as second-most in NBA history behind only LeBron James’ $580 million in player contracts.

He’s a 10-time All-Star and 10-time All-NBA selection, has been part of four championships with Golden State and is a two-time MVP. Lana Del Rey Shuts Down Rumors of Dating Alligator Tour Guide Jeremy Dufrene – Where Is The Buzz

[ad_1]

Lana Del Rey, known for her haunting vocals and enigmatic persona, has addressed the swirling gossip about her personal life, particularly regarding a rumored romance with Jeremy Dufrene. The “Tough” singer took to Instagram on Saturday afternoon (Aug. 31) to respond to a post that claimed to have inside information about her new relationship.

The Instagram account tagged Del Rey and asserted that Dufrene, who they described as “Lana’s new beau,” is an alligator tour guide who had recently separated from his wife. The post also alleged that Dufrene’s daughter had taken to social media, expressing her surprise at discovering her father’s new relationship with the pop icon through online platforms.

Initially, the post featured a screenshot of a purported text message exchange between Dufrene and his “daughter,” as well as a tweet where the supposed daughter lamented, “he doesn’t understand social media i’m in tears” and “everyone is fighting.” However, the post was later edited to include a different tweet in which the daughter clarified, “i barely talk to my dad let alone care about his love life. i’m just shocked WHO he’s dating.”

In response, Del Rey swiftly shut down the speculation, commenting “No,” on the Instagram post. She followed up with another comment, adding, “Also, that’s not his daughter on Twitter,” directly refuting the claims about Dufrene’s family drama.

While Del Rey has not officially confirmed whether she is romantically involved with Dufrene, the two were recently spotted holding hands in the U.K. during the Reading & Leeds Festival, where Del Rey headlined. Their association is not new, as Del Rey previously posted photos with Dufrene in 2019 from a swamp tour in New Orleans, captioning the images, “Jeremy lemme be captain at Arthur’s Air Boat Tours x.” More recently, she tagged him in an Instagram post this past May, suggesting another visit to the bayou.

Dufrene, who is an alligator tour guide by profession, has gained attention for his fearless interactions with the reptiles. In a video clip shared by TMZ, he is seen feeding a gator raw chicken before planting a kiss on its head, showcasing his daring approach to his work.

Despite the ongoing speculation about her personal life, Del Rey has been focused on her music career. After a summer tour, she headlined Reading & Leeds on August 24-25. However, her Reading set was unexpectedly cut short by five minutes due to a technical mishap during a fireworks display, leaving fans disappointed as they missed out on hearing her perform “Hope Is a Dangerous Thing for a Woman Like Me to Have – But I Have It” from her critically acclaimed album Norman F—ing Rockwell.

In response to the mishap, the festival issued an apology, stating, “Due to an error by the Reading production team we accidentally cut Lana Del Rey’s incredible set short by 5 mins, we apologise unreservedly to Lana and her fans.”

Looking ahead, fans are eagerly anticipating Del Rey’s next album, Lasso. In a recent interview with Vogue, she described the project as having a country influence but assured that it wouldn’t be a “heavy departure” from her existing body of work. “If anything, it will just be a little lighter lyrically, and more pointed in a classic country, American, or Southern Gothic production — which again, so many of my songs already are,” she said.

As rumors continue to swirl, Del Rey remains focused on her music, leaving fans to wonder what’s next for the ever-mysterious artist.

Moore says he made an ‘honest mistake’ failing to correct application claiming Bronze Star

[ad_1]

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said Thursday he made “an honest mistake” in failing to correct a White House fellowship application 18 years ago when he wrote he had received a Bronze Star for his military service in Afghanistan though he never ended up receiving it, after the New York Times obtained a copy of the application and reported on it.

The newspaper, which obtained the document as part of a Freedom of Information Act request, reported that Moore made the claim on the application in 2006 when he was 27.

In a statement, the governor wrote that he had been encouraged to fill out the application for the fellowship by his deputy brigade commander serving overseas in the Army. At the time, Moore said the deputy brigade commander had recommended him for the Bronze Star — and told him to include the award on his application “after confirming with two other senior-level officers that they had also signed off on the commendation.”

Toward the end of his deployment, however, Moore said he was disappointed to learn he had not received the Bronze Star. When he returned home, Moore said he was “focused on helping my fellow veterans, a mission I continue to advance as governor.”

“Still, I sincerely wish I had gone back to correct the note on my application,” Moore, a Democrat, said in a statement Thursday. “It was an honest mistake, and I regret not making that correction.”

The Bronze Star is awarded to service members for meritorious service in combat zones.

The governor noted in his statement Thursday that he was listed as a top 1% officer in Operation Enduring Freedom in his officer evaluation report.

“My deputy brigade commander felt comfortable with instructing me to include the award on my application for the Fellowship because he received confirmation with the approval authority that the Bronze Star was signed and approved by his senior leadership,” Moore wrote.

The governor also wrote that in the military, “there is an understanding that if a senior officer tells you that an action is approved, you can trust that as a fact. That is why it was part of the application, plain and simple.”

The award had been mentioned during interviews with media when Moore was running for governor in 2022, but Moore never said in those interviews that he had not received the commendation. In an interview with the New York Times, the governor said for the first time that he regretted failing to correct the interviewers who had described him as a recipient of the award.

The newspaper also spoke to the officer who Moore said had recommended he put the award on his application this week in an interview arranged by Moore’s staff. The officer, Michael Fenzel, who is now a lieutenant general serving as the United States security coordinator for Israel and the Palestinian Authority, told The Times that Moore had first objected to the idea of mentioning the Bronze Star.

Fenzel said he had told Moore that he and others had approved the medal, and that it was appropriate to include it in his application, the newspaper reported, and that it would be processed by the time his fellowship began.

James Brown also heralded as “The Godfather of Soul” and “The Hardest Working man in Show Business” left an extraordinary legacy after his passing in 2006. With a colorful and extravagant persona, Brown’s larger-than-life style still appears in the home he lived in prior to his death. Born in Barnwell SC, his family moved when he was only five to nearby Augusta.

According to a recent article by Billboard, his estate is located a few minutes away from his hometown and is now under the stewardship of Primary Wave, a marketing and branding firm, which “purchased assets of the estate for a reported $90 million.”

Here’s more from Billboard:

Though the Brown house is technically in South Carolina, Augusta lies just 8 miles away. And the city will be an important partner in Primary Wave’s ultimate vision for the house: a Brown version of Elvis Presley’s home-turned-museum, Graceland.

From the choices of his costumes to the style of his hair to his energetic performances, Brown was a standout performer. However, his roots started simply and he carried over that simplicity and his later grandiose style into the home he last lived in. Now you can take a peek inside of “The Godfather of Soul’s” home in Beech Island, SC and experience how the artist remained close to his humble roots, but still managed to showcase his lavish style.

While Disney has not announced any live-action remake of Frozen, the studio is focusing on expanding the animated franchise, with Frozen 3 scheduled for release in 2027. Fans of the series and of Taylor-Joy alike will be watching closely to see if the actress’s wish to become the live-action Elsa will one day come true.

What are the most regrettable college majors?

[ad_1]

While roughly nearly half of people regret their college majors, some majors lead to more regret than others.

According to a recent report by the Federal Reserve entitled, “Economic Well-Being of U.S. Households in 2023,” majors with less organic or less obvious career paths like humanities and the arts — which can lead to a very diverse array of careers — are regretted the most.

Social and behavioral sciences, which 44% of grads reported regretting, tops the list that includes humanities and arts (43%), life sciences (also 43%), law (41%), and education (38%).

Meanwhile, the least regretted majors include engineering, information sciences, business, and health sciences — one of the most commonly acquired degrees by Black college students today. While many may eventually regret their law degrees, law is another popular degree program among Black college students.

Analyzing the Federal Reserve data, many people regret their degrees because they lack decent or high pay and career satisfaction. Many popular degree programs, like the humanities and the arts, have limited job opportunities compared to the number of degree holders. Industries like journalism and communications, other degrees nearly most regret, have changed rapidly, aging many out quickly.

The report further confirms that college enrollment among Black Americans continues to decline. A report by Georgetown University examining African American trends in higher education also found that Black Americans regularly pursue degrees that lead to low-paying career fields over STEM and other higher-paying fields.

Recommended Stories

The Federal Reserve’s report found that even despite finding satisfaction, most respondents would study something else if given a second chance. Regardless, at 80%, most college graduates do not regret going to college altogether.

“More than one-half of adults who ever enrolled in an educational program beyond high school (and were not currently enrolled) said that the lifetime financial benefits of their higher education exceeded the financial costs,” analysts wrote in the report.

Analysts continued, “Most people value the education they received, but with the benefit of hindsight and life experience, it was also common to think that different educational decisions could have been better.”
