Usher postponed the first show of his highly anticipated tour hours before it was scheduled to begin.
The “Confessions” singer announced in a social media post on Wednesday that he has postponed his show in Atlanta to give himself time to “rest and heal.” Usher was scheduled to kick off his Past Present Future Tour on Wednesday.
“For my 30-plus year career, 100% of my blood, sweat and tears has gone into putting on the best performance and creating a memorable experience for my fans,” the “My Way” crooner wrote on Instagram. “I have every intention of doing that for this tour as well which is why I have to postpone tonight’s show and reschedule it for a later date to give my body a second to rest and heal.”

Usher went on to say that fans are “still going to get a bit of the past, some of the present and a unique look into the future on the rescheduled date but you’ll also be getting 100% of me.”
“The last thing I want to ever do is disappoint you, the fans who have been eagerly waiting for this tour to start,” he continued. “However, I wouldn’t be the entertainer that I am if I can’t physically give you my best.”

Usher has had a whirlwind year in 2024, headlining the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show and releasing a new album, “Coming Home.” The singer announced his “Past Present Future Tour “— his first tour in over a decade — after wrapping up his widely successful Las Vegas residency, which grossed over $100 million, according to Billboard.
Usher is still scheduled to perform on Friday, Aug. 16 and Saturday, Aug. 17 at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, according to People. He is expected to make stops in cities across the U.S. and Europe, including Boston, Chicago, Toronto and London, during the tour, which concludes in May 2025.
The person who’s credited with created breaking is DJ Kool Herc, who is also considered one of the early pioneers of hip-hop, which isn’t surprising considered the two are intertwined. During parties, Herc would encourage B-Boys to perform as he would continue to loop the percussion breaks during his set and hype up the crowd on the mic.
The dynamic between singer Madison Beer and reality star Kylie Jenner has been the subject of much public scrutiny and speculation. Once seemingly inseparable, their relationship has undergone a significant transformation marked by both camaraderie and contention.
The pair’s initial connection was forged in 2013 through a shared social circle that included Kendall Jenner and Sophie Richie. However, the trajectory of their friendship took a noticeable downturn in 2014. Public incidents, such as apparent instances of bullying and exclusion, began to erode the foundation of their relationship.

Vice President Kamala Harris will unveil on Friday a first-of-its-kind economic policy that seeks to address corporate price gouging that is crippling the pockets of American households. The plan would particularly bring needed relief to Black households, which have been disproportionately hit by higher prices.
On Wednesday evening, the Harris for President campaign announced the new policy, which would establish a federal ban on corporate gouging in the food and grocery industries.
“Vice President Harris has repeatedly emphasized on the campaign trail that ‘prices are still too high,’ and, in particular, she knows rising food prices remain a top concern for American families,” said the campaign in the announcement.
The federal ban, which would need to be enacted through legislation passed in the United States Congress, particularly targets the meat processing industry.
The Harris campaign notes that the “highly consolidated” industry is controlled by only four big companies, which act as “middlemen” by buying animals from farmers and ranchers, later processing them, and selling meat to retailers such as grocery stores. The campaign said these companies not only jack up food prices but also make the industry less competitive for small businesses.
The multi-prong plan to bring down food and grocery costs also includes empowering the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general to investigate and impose “harsh” penalties on big corporations that violate the new proposed policy. Additionally, Harris is calling for more federal support to help small businesses compete.
The Democratic presidential nominee’s new plan to tackle price gouging would especially benefit Black households, who data shows for years have faced higher and more volatile inflation compared to white households.
According to research from the University of California San Diego’s School of Global Policy and Strategy, between 2004 and 2020, Black families experienced slightly higher inflation and 13% more volatile inflation. As a result, Black consumers are spending more on groceries and other household services.
“African-Americans are concerned with the price of things: bread, gas, everyday cost-of-living items,” NAACP President Derrick Johnson told theGrio. “It is woefully unfair in this society for companies to take advantage … where food, goods and other things are not scarce.”

He added, “If the financial markets are benefiting high-wealth individuals, the consumer market should also be positioned to support the everyday cost of living of citizens across this country.”
Harris’ policy announcement is less about inflation and more about corporate greed, said Johnson.
“This isn’t an inflation issue, it’s a greed issue,” he explained. “Her decision is to address the greed that has kind of propelled inflation and increased the cost of things that everyday citizens across communities are confronted with.”
Johnson continued, “Her solution is to address it by preventing these monopolies from artificially increasing the price.”
On Friday, while in Raleigh, N.C., Harris is also expected to announce additional policies to address the rising costs of housing and prescription drugs.
The vice president’s policy layout comes as the Biden-Harris administration recently touted the new consumer price index report showing the 12-month inflation rate dropped to 2.9%, its lowest level since March 2021.
In a statement on Wednesday, President Joe Biden acknowledged that prices are still too high but argued the latest inflation report showed that his administration’s policies are “making real progress,” noting that wages are rising faster than prices.
On Thursday, the White House also released the results of its first Medicare drug price negotiations since the Inflation Reduction Act, which allows the federal government to bargain directly with drug manufacturers to lower the cost of drugs. The administration said the new price setting has saved $6 billion across 10 drugs and that beneficiaries could save as much as $1.5 billion in out-of-pocket costs.

According to a recent poll conducted by The Economist/YouGov, the economy remains the No. 1 concern for voters heading into the Nov. 5 election. Another survey conducted by Black Futures Lab in 2022 similarly found that the economy was the top issue on the minds of Black voters.
Vice President Harris has made clear that the costs for American families will be her top issue as she continues to roll out her presidential campaign, which she launched on July 21.
“She’s attuned to the needs and interests of citizens and concerns they have around the price of things,” said Johnson.
The NAACP president said Harris’ policy announcements provide a “sharp contrast” between her and her opponent Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee.
“We cannot complain about the cost of bacon and goods, and yet you have not advanced an approach or a policy priority to address [it],” he told theGrio.
“It’ll be interesting to see what is the solution from the other side, and is there a true path that has the interest of citizens and consumers in mind, or is it simply talking points about a problem with no solution that address the problem?”
According to USA Today, the Bay Area singer filed a temporary restraining order against Young-White in the Los Angeles County Superior Court. This order would bar him from contacting Kehlani or their daughter throughout the order, whether that’s in person, by phone, or by email.
The restraining order also requires that he stay at least 100 yards away from Kehlani’s home, Adeya’s school, and her childcare facility.

In an attached court order, commissioner Jeffrey W. Korn ruled there was a risk of child abduction in the case, citing Young-White’s history of abuse against Kehlani and lack of cooperation in co-parenting. Young-White’s abuse of the “Crash” singer was not specified in the filing.
Last week, Young-White made headlines after he filed for full custody of their daughter, claiming that Kehlani is in a cult, and has been for the past few years.
The court documents obtained by USA Today read, “I am not here to disparage (Kehlani). However, the environment that she has created for herself is not the type of environment that a child should be living [in] and therefore, I bring myself to the mercy and wisdom of the court to save my daughter before it is too late.”
He adds that this “cult” controls the singer’s actions, including how Adeya is raised.
The “CRASH” singer quickly responded to Young-White’s lawsuit. “I strongly deny any claims that I have put my child in harm’s way, or left my child alone with anyone deemed dangerous or unsafe,” Kehlani said in an Instagram statement. “I also do not align with any of the allegations made against my former religious community that have been stated in the media.”
Kehlani retains legal custody of Adeya during the restraining order, according to USA Today.

The Black 15-year-old from Fairfax County, Virginia, doesn’t just dream of combatting skin cancer through body soap; he’s already making it a reality.
Bekele was selected as this year’s Kid of the Year because of the “ambition” and “selflessness” he has demonstrated while working diligently in his spare time — during summer break no less — at a Johns Hopkins lab in Baltimore to craft his special soap.
The rising 10th-grader at Woodson High School first made headlines and earned himself appearances on talk shows after he used his soap to win 3M company and Discovery Education’s annual Young Scientist Challenge in October 2023.
“I’m really passionate about skin cancer research,” says Bekele, “whether it’s my own research or what’s happening in the field. It’s absolutely incredible to think that one day my bar of soap will be able to make a direct impact on somebody else’s life. That’s the reason I started this all in the first place.”

Originally born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Bekele immigrated to the U.S. with his family at the age of 4. He now lives in Northern Virginia with his mom, an educator, his father, a human resources specialist, and his sisters — Hasset, 16, and Liya, 7. He told Time magazine that his parents instilled in him and his sisters the importance of sunscreen early on, though he admittedly didn’t “give it much thought” when he was younger.
After learning about imiquimod, a drug approved to fight a form of skin cancer with the potential to fight more types of the disease, the teenager wondered if there was a way to make it more accessible. Realizing just about everyone uses soap and water to wash themselves, he landed on an innovative bar of soap.
“Anybody could do what I did,” Bekele says. “I just came up with an idea. I worked towards that idea, and I was able to bring it to life.”
While skin cancer remains extremely rare in Black and brown people, Black men, in particular, have the lowest survival rate from the disease. Black people are also more likely to be diagnosed at later stages. With cancer deaths, including from skin cancer, projected to rise by almost 100% by 2050, Bekele’s soap could have a huge impact.
The 2024 list of Time Kid of the Year honorees includes another noteworthy kid from the DMV: actor Keivonn Woodward. At just 10 years old, the Bowie, Maryland, native made history last year as the first Black (and second only ever) deaf actor to be nominated for an Emmy for his critically acclaimed performance in the HBO series” The Last of Us.”
During an interview with “The Breakfast Club,” billionaire Fanatics owner Michael Rubin attempted to clear up rumors about his good friend Meek Mill. Over the years, Rubin has made himself a popular personality in the realm of hip-hop due to his digital sports platform.

Rubin shared how it bothered him that folks were calling the “Dreams and Nightmares” rapper gay. “When I see the narrative of, a really good friend of mine like Meek, and people are trying to … Again, if he was gay — which there’s not one gay bone in his body — who cares, number one,” he said.
“If people wanna be gay, it is 2024. Who the f**k cares? Number two, there’s not a gay bone in his body, so why do people wanna lie about that? Why do people want to change the narrative of a bet he made with me to hurt him?” However, Rubin quickly showed how comfortable he got in the culture as he shared his disdain for the way Black people allegedly “hate” on each other.
“That is the one thing I’ve learned about —you know, look, I’m just being blunt because it’s me. It’s the one thing I’ve learned about Black culture that I don’t like, is that Black hate on hate,” Rubin explained. “It’s horrible. … Why does somebody want to bring somebody else down?
“Let’s try to build everybody up. … I think there’s a little bit of a Black culture of Black hate on hate, like that Black judge that Meek had that hated on him and wanted to go extra hard on him. It’s what people always say to me, like ‘Black hate on hate.’ I think it’s terrible. I think it’s culturally wrong.”
Perhaps even more shocking was the venue that Rubin decided to air his grievances on: a radio show with Black hosts, geared toward a Black audience. Shortly after the clip circulated and drew the ire of Black Twitter, Rubin took to X to apologize (sort of) and clear the air.
“I got a phone call from one of the people I have the most respect for in the world – they told me while they appreciate my intention, it’s not my place to speak on black culture. I get it and really appreciate the input!” Rubin wrote.
“My intention was to say how important it is that we need to uplift each other, stop hate on each other, and push each other to win, and always root for each other’s success! My bad, Much love and appreciate the feedback.”
Rubin’s intentions may have been genuine, but in the future he should refrain from speaking about a culture he cannot claim.
Hulu has thrown a powerful punch with the release of the first-look images for its highly anticipated Spanish-language Original series, “La Máquina.” The series, starring Hollywood heavyweights Gael García Bernal, Diego Luna, and Eiza González, is set to captivate audiences when it premieres with all six episodes on October 9, 2024.
“La Máquina” follows the gritty journey of former boxing champion Esteban Osuna, played by the charismatic Gael García Bernal. After suffering a career-altering defeat, Esteban finds himself at a crossroads, both personally and professionally. His loyal manager and best friend, Andy Lujan (Diego Luna), is determined to help him reclaim his former glory. However, when a dangerous criminal organization enters the picture, their comeback becomes a high-stakes battle for survival.
Adding to the drama is Esteban’s ex-wife, Irasema (Eiza González), a fearless journalist who uncovers the dark underbelly of the boxing world. As she digs deeper, Irasema puts herself in harm’s way, forcing her to confront the dangerous consequences of her pursuit of the truth.
Joining the star-studded cast are Jorge Perugorría, Andrés Delgado, Karina Gidi, Dariam Coco, and Lucía Méndez, who bring depth and complexity to the series.
“La Máquina” is a collaboration between Searchlight Television and the production company La Corriente del Golfo, founded by Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna. The series is executive produced by Marco Ramirez, who serves as showrunner, alongside Bernal, Luna, Gerardo Gatica, Leandro Halperín, Adam Fishbach, and Kyzza Terrazas. Acclaimed director Gabriel Ripstein brings his signature style to the project.

Beyoncé, Shaboozey and Kane Brown are making waves in the country music genre, nabbing several 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards nominations.
Queen Bey has been nominated for the People’s Artist of 2023, the Female Artist of 2023 and the Social Country Star of 2023, the PCCAs announced on Wednesday, according to E! News. Her song, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” has been nominated for Song of the Year, while her single, “16 Carriages,” received a nomination for the Storytelling Song of 2024 and the Female Song of 2024.
Beyoncé’s nominations don’t stop there. Her song, “II Most Wanted,” featuring Miley Cyrus, is nominated for the Crossover Song of 2023, and her track, “Blackbiird” — which features Black women country singers Brittney Spencer, Tanner Adell, Tiera Kennedy and Reyna Roberts — is nominated for the Cover Song of 2024, as is her remake of Dolly Parton’s hit, “Jolene.” Beyoncé’s groundbreaking country album, “Cowboy Carter,” is nominated for the Album of 2023.

She has some stiff competition, however: She’ll be going head-to-head with Shaboozey, who’s featured on her “Cowboy Carter” album. The 29-year-old country music star — who had a huge breakout year with the release of his single, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” — is also nominated for the Album of 2023 for his LP “Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going” and Song of the Year for “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”
Shaboozey’s other nominations include the New Artist of 2023, the New Artist Song of 2024 and the Male Song of 2024 for “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” the Crossover Song of 2023 for his song “My Fault” featuring Noah Cyrus and the Music Video of 2023 for “Let It Burn.”

Another Black artist up for awards is Kane Brown, who’s nominated for the People’s Artist of 2023 and the Male Artist of 2023. The country-singing son of a white mother and Black father received nominations for the Male Song of 2024 for his song, “I Can Feel It,” and the Crossover Song of 2023, the Music Video of 2023, and the Song of the Year for his song with Marshmello, “Miles On It.”
The People’s Choice Country Awards will air live on NBC and Peacock from The Grande Ole Opry in Nashville on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 8 p.m.
