(WT). This highly anticipated show stars Kim Seon-ho and Go Youn-jung, and is directed by Yoo Young-eun, renowned for his work on “Bloody Heart.”

The historic primetime presidential debate between U.S. President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will be consequential for Black voters, an influential voting bloc that both Biden and Trump have heavily courted on the campaign trail.

Though Biden won 92% of the Black vote in the 2020 presidential election, compared to the 8% who voted for Trump, national polling shows the president has a way to go to reach the level of support he did four years ago in November. 

As some Black Americans express frustrations over rising costs, the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, and other policy issues, Trump has seemingly gained traction with a small but notable share of Black voters. The latest Pew Research Center polling data finds that 77% of Black voters prefer Biden to Trump (18%); however, 49% say would prefer a different candidate altogether. 

Democratic strategists tell theGrio that the choice for Black voters between Biden and Trump is clear; however, they expressed President Biden’s need to paint the obvious contrast between what he has achieved for Black communities and how things were far worse when Trump was in office.

“At the end of the day, you’ve got to make your accomplishments feel real to the people that you’re asking to vote for you,” says Jamarr Brown, executive director of Color of Change PAC. He tells theGrio, “President Biden has accomplished quite a bit. Both President Biden and the Democratic Congress.”

Brown said Biden has to highlight what he sees as his laundry list of accomplishments, including slashing poverty among Black children through the Child Tax Credit passed through the 2021 American Rescue Plan, extending debt relief to Black farmers, and a record $16 billion for HBCUs.

Antjuan Seawright, a Democratic strategist who advises national campaigns, told theGrio that despite pronouncements from Trump and his campaign, President Biden has the “facts” on his side as it relates to his record on policies impacting Black and brown communities.

“The facts say that crime is down. The facts indicate that the Black unemployment rate is at lowest. The facts say that Biden has created a record amount of jobs. The facts say that Black small businesses are thriving like they never had before,” said Seawright. 

Seawright noted that Trump and his camp are leveraging the mass spreading of misinformation and disinformation online and emphasized the importance of Biden setting the record straight on the debate stage.

“It’s now to the point where most people are getting their news online, and people view it as actual news, and it’s not,” he complained. 

Seawright argued that throughout his career as a politician and businessman, Trump has used the art of repetition to peddle lies until it is believed by the masses. He explained, “He’ll just go on to the next lie and repeat that enough … I think it’s dangerous because these things are starting to actually penetrate our community and making headway.” 

Democratic strategist Joel Payne says Trump is “very transactional” when addressing Black voters. 

“It’s not, I share your sensibilities. I see your worldview. I understand what it’s like to be in your shoes. It’s look what I’ve done for you,” Payne told theGrio. “And I guess what I would say is that works, I think, for certain pockets of Black voters. I don’t think it carries as a far and wide message.”

By contrast, Payne, a former Black media director for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, said Biden does well by being sensitive to and understanding people’s “lived experience.” 

“There’s got to be a matching of the ‘I have focused and worked hard to do these things for you’ with ‘I get your experience and your struggle,’” he argued. “I understand what it’s like to be a Black mother in the inner city of Detroit or Philadelphia and working two jobs and also trying to make sure your kids have a great education.”

Seawright similarly argued that Biden must avoid “oversimplifying” his message, advising: “He has to speak directly to the American people on our street and not speak the language of K Street [Washington].”

While Payne expects that President Biden will broaden his message for the larger American electorate, he noted an effective strategy would be to “adopt” the language of Black voters when discussing mainstream policy issues that ultimately impact Black Americans disproportionately, like the economy, abortion and immigration. He suggested the president also address the concerns about “what’s going on in the Middle East and about getting a ceasefire and making sure that Palestinian lives are valued.”

Brown of Color of Change PAC said it’s also important for Biden to connect his achievements with actual Black Americans who have benefited from his policies, much like the White House has been doing over the past several months, like the mother and daughter in Las Vegas President Biden met with in March who were able to secure their first home through his COVID-19 stimulus package.

“At the end of the day, you’ve got to make your accomplishments feel real to the people that you’re asking to vote for you,” he said. “Donald Trump is going to get on stage. He is going to manipulate the facts and try to manipulate them to his favor. But President Biden’s got to show the real stories of people, and not just facts, figures and names of legislation.”

Though some Black voters may feel wary about re-electing the 81-year-old president, Brown cautioned that it’s “not just a vote for Joe Biden” but “a vote for your community.”

“You should love yourself, your family and your community enough to see who the best candidate is,” he explained. “Who is working on behalf of our people, who is trying to still work on behalf of our people.”

Reality TV star and entrepreneur Draya Michele has filed a lawsuit against her ex-boyfriend, NFL player Tyrod Taylor, over allegations that he is attempting to evict her from a home he verbally agreed to let her stay in. The suit, which was first reported by TMZ, claims that Taylor is reneging on a promise he made during their relationship.

Draya Michele and Tyrod Taylor began dating in 2020. By August 2022, Taylor decided to purchase a house in Los Angeles for Michele and her children. According to the lawsuit, the couple had a verbal agreement that Michele could stay in the home and eventually buy it back from Taylor. It was also agreed that any modifications or payments made by Michele would count toward the final purchase price if she decided to buy the property from Taylor.

However, in 2023, the couple broke up. Michele, who has since moved on with her new partner, 22-year-old NBA player Jalen Green, continued to reside in the house. Michele claims she offered Taylor $2.8 million to purchase the home, but Taylor increased the price to $3.2 million, which she agreed to, considering her investment of approximately $300,000 into the property.

Despite this, Michele alleges that Taylor backed out of the agreement and is now threatening to evict her and her children. As a result, Michele is suing for breach of contract and is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages.

When Dallas Cowboys Hall of Famer wide receiver Michael Irvin revealed his wife’s early onset Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis earlier this month, he brought an urgent topic for Black Americans to the forefront. 

Irvin, 58, first publicly revealed the news about his wife Sandy, 58, to patrons at his Playmakers88 sports bar in The Colony, Texas, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. The NFL analyst said his wife has been dealing with the disease for the last five or six years and experiences several challenges, including difficulty walking and speaking. She now requires 24-hour care with a live-in caretaker.

Despite her struggles with the disease, Irvin said he has “no intention” of putting his wife in an assisted living facility, no matter the potential cost.

“If anyone has earned the right to stay in her house, my wife has,” Irvin told the publication. “That I shall honor. No matter what it takes.”

Irvin and his wife met while attending the University of Miami. They have been together for 39 years and married for the last 34.

Early-onset Alzheimer’s is diagnosed when symptoms of the condition occur before the age of 65, most commonly in a person’s 40s or 50s. However, this version of Alzheimer’s is much rarer, leaving many physicians puzzled as to how it manifests. Furthermore, it’s challenging for officials to conclude how common early-onset is for Black Americans because of the severe disparities in both research and adequate screening for Black patients.

Nevertheless, what is known is that Alzheimer’s disease, a condition that, over time, deteriorates a person’s memory and impacts the brain’s ability to remember how to perform basic functions, disproportionately affects Black Americans. Black people are twice as likely than their white counterparts to develop the disease. 

There isn’t much data that pinpoints exactly why the condition appears to be more common in Black Americans, though some medical experts theorize the higher vulnerability of Black communities could be related to a systemic lack of access to decent healthcare, environment, and potentially, genetics. 

Some health officials, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, have warned that Alzheimer’s diagnoses may be showing signs of increasing. Presently, roughly seven million people over age 65 are suffering from the condition, with 14% of them being Black (as compared to 10% white patients); a number slightly higher than the overall percentage of Black people in America. The CDC projects the overall figure could more than double by 2060. 
Since a clear or predominant risk factor has yet to be formally identified, Alzheimer’s prevention has also proven tricky. A study conducted by the CDC found eight potential lifestyle risk factors, including high blood pressure, physical inactivity, obesity, diabetes, depression, smoking, hearing loss, and binge drinking, but even unexpected activities like nose-picking have been theorized to potentially raise Alzheimer’s risks.

In a bid to combat the rising trend of book bans and curriculum alterations that threaten to whitewash history especially in Florida, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. has initiated a significant book drive during their Grand Conclave in Tampa this week. The fraternity aims to distribute books focused on African American history and culture, setting up small libraries in several urban communities in Tampa as part of its Grand Conclave.

“Throughout history, one of the most damaging tactics in the attempt to alter the historical record is banning or destroying books,” Omega Psi Phi stated in a recent press release. The fraternity expressed concern over the aggressive efforts to alter curriculums and ban books in Florida and other parts of the country. These actions, they argue, are blatant attempts to rewrite history.

Omega Psi Phi has a long-standing commitment to preserving and promoting African American history. A century ago, under the guidance of Brother Carter G. Woodson, the fraternity launched Negro History and Literature Week in 1924. This initiative evolved into Negro Achievement Week in 1925 and eventually expanded into Black History Month in 1976, celebrated nationally every February.

To address the current challenges to historical truth, Omega Psi Phi has set up libraries in Tampa’s urban communities. These libraries will be used to distribute books during various events at the fraternity’s Grand Conclave, such as the Community Forum, Youth Symposium, Silent March, and STEM activities. The goal is to ensure widespread access to literature that highlights African American contributions and experiences.

In a strategic move to enhance the reach of this initiative, Omega Psi Phi has partnered with the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), the organization founded by Carter G. Woodson. This partnership aims to ensure the effective distribution of resources beyond the conclave and to maintain deliberate communications about the impact of Black history, including the role of Omega Psi Phi in it.

Additionally, the fraternity has teamed up with Black English Bookstore, a Tampa-based bookstore recently recognized as one of twelve stores in the inaugural cohort of the Book Industry Charitable Foundation’s “BincTank” incubator pilot program. This program supports BIPOC-owned retail bookselling businesses, furthering the mission to promote diverse literary voices.

This book drive is a key part of Omega Psi Phi’s Grand Conclave in Tampa, reflecting the fraternity’s dedication to both preserving history and fostering community engagement. By distributing books focused on African American history and culture, the fraternity aims to counteract efforts to erase significant parts of the historical record.

Prince is finally getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. 

The late singer, who tragically passed away on April 21, 2016, turned down the honor twice during his lifetime, according to People. Now, Prince will receive a posthumous star as an honoree for the Hollywood Walk of Fame Class of 2025, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced on Tuesday, June 25. 

Prince will join several other A-list celebrities, including Nia Long, Misty Copeland, Fantasia, Jane Fonda, and David Beckham, who will also receive a star this year. The “Kiss” singer chatted with a Walk of Famer about the possibility of a nomination before his death but said that he was “not ready” for the honor, according to Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez, People reports. 

Walk of Fame Selection Panel Chairman Peter Roth sang the 2025 honorees’ praises in a statement, saying that the Walk of Fame “has made history again.” 

“As Chairman of the Walk of Fame Selection Committee, I am thrilled to announce the distinguished honorees who will grace the iconic Walk of Fame in the Class of 2025,” Roth said in a press release. “Each honoree truly embodies the essence of excellence in their respective fields. The committee and I cannot wait to see our honorees becoming part of this world-famous walkway!”

The rules for nominating a celebrity to receive a star change after a celebrity’s death. There is a two-year mourning period and the late celebrity’s family or estate has to sign off on the nomination, Martinez told People.

HBO, in association with Warner Bros. Television, has announced key creative appointments for its highly anticipated original Harry Potter series. Francesca Gardiner, known for her work on HBO’s “Succession,” “His Dark Materials,” and “Killing Eve,” has been named showrunner and executive producer. Mark Mylod, who has directed episodes of HBO’s “Succession,” “Game of Thrones,” and “The Last of Us,” will serve as executive producer and director of multiple episodes. This new series is currently in development and will be available on Max’s expanding global platform.

The upcoming series will attempt to be a faithful adaptation of the beloved “Harry Potter” book series by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling. Featuring a new cast, the series aims to introduce the magical world of Harry Potter to a new generation of fans while maintaining the rich detail and beloved characters that have captivated audiences for over twenty-five years. Each season will bring these incredible adventures to life for viewers around the world, complementing the original, classic films that remain a cherished part of the franchise.

The series will be written and executive-produced by Francesca Gardiner. Mark Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes for HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. The executive production team also includes J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, as well as David Heyman of Heyday Films.
