Appeals Court Stopped Trump Subversion Case Over Fani Willis

In a shocking turn of events, a Georgia appeals court has stopped Trump’s election subversion case which is a vital victory for the former president. The decision also affects his co-defendants.

The new order, which was filed on Wednesday, indicates that the case will not happen before the presidential election. The court stated the case is postponed until a panel of judges decides whether or not Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis should be disqualified.

The appeals court may rule on Willis’ disqualification by March 2025, but the decision may come down sooner. A spokesperson for Willis’ office said they can’t comment on the appeals court’s order at this point. Trump’s lead defense counsel in Georgia, Steve Sadow, said the ruling was just.

“The Georgia Court of Appeals has properly stayed all proceedings against President Trump in the trial court pending its decision on our interlocutory appeal which argues the case should be dismissed and Fulton County DA Willis should be disqualified for her misconduct,” Sadow stated.

A spokesperson for Willis’ office said they are unable to comment on the appeals court’s order. Trump and several of his co-defendants have been trying to get Willis disqualified by accusing her of having a sexual relationship with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor she hired for the case.

The defendants stated that Willis benefitted financially from their romantic involvement. In March, Judge Scott McAfee decided that there wasn’t enough evidence to undoubtedly prove Willis had benefitted financially from the relationship.

Last week, Trump was convicted last week in Manhattan for falsifying business documents to conceal a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign. Trump, who is now a convicted felon, is scheduled to be sentenced in July.

Kerry Washington pokes fun at Tony Goldwyn friendship with ‘Black Wife Effect’ post: ‘I’ve upgraded your life’

[ad_1]

Kerry Washington knows how social media likes to gossip and she’s taking it all in stride.

The actress poked fun at the constant chatter about her friendship with former co-star Tony Goldwyn with a “Black Wife Effect” Instagram post about their “Scandal” characters. The Black Wife Effect social media trend shows how romantic partners upgraded their lives, style, and/or career after marrying a Black woman.

Washington shared a montage of photos of Goldwyn in his early years, before he appeared alongside her on “Scandal,” and photos of him when he starred on the hit show, where he played Olivia Pope’s love interest President Grant Fitzgerald.

“Tony! I’ve upgraded your life in so many ways #BlackWifeEffect, and today I’m adding one more,” Washington captioned the video.

“Go upgrade your voter registration status to REGISTERED 😜. Love you!!!!!! #RegisterAFriendDay #Olitz,” she added, encouraging her followers to register to vote for the upcoming 2024 election.

Goldwyn responded to the post, writing, “I’d be lost without you kw…🤣 Registering NOW!🙌❤️.”

Washington and Goldyn have maintained a strong friendship since their Shondaland show ended in 2018. Premiering in 2012, “Scandal” broke the mold with its large fan base and weekly trending topics on X (formerly known as Twitter). Washington won the Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series in 2013 and 2014 for her role as Washington D.C. fixer Olivia Pope.

The actress was also nominated for an Emmy Award, Golden Globe Award, and SAG Award for her performance during the series’ seven-season run. “Scandal” fans were torn on how they felt about Olivia and Fitz’s relationship on the show, with some rooting for the couple and others hating the pairing. Washington told Entertainment Weekly at the time that she loved the fan debates.

“There are people who don’t really think Olivia and Fitz should be together,” Washington said during a 2015 interview. “Whether they’re Olake [Olivia and Jake] or whether they just don’t think it’s the healthiest relationship … there’s a lot of voices out there. But I really love that our fans are invested emotionally, and I’m excited to be on the roller coaster with them. There will be some people that are thrilled and some people that are sick to their stomachs — and I’m in for all of it!”

Texas Prosecutors Prepare to Challenge Daniel Perry Pardon

[ad_1]

Image for article titled Surprising Development, Regarding White Man Pardoned For Fatal Shooting at BLM Event

Photo: Mikala Compton/Austin American-Statesman (AP)

A few weeks ago, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott granted a pardon to Daniel Perry, a white man convicted in the fatal shooting of a Black Lives Matter protester, almost immediately after he received his prison sentence. And let me tell you… prosecutors ain’t having it.

Abbott requested an investigation into Perry’s trial before it was even over. Prosecutors accused Perry of the murder of BLM demonstrator Garrett Foster back in July 2020. Perry maintained that Foster pointed a gun at him. However, a slew of racist social media posts suggested to the jury Perry just had random smoke for anyone following BLM, leading to a guilty verdict.

Following the probe, the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles voted unanimously to pardon Perry, releasing him from his 25-year prison sentence (after only serving barely one year) and also restoring his firearms rights. The consensus was that he should have been exonerated under the state’s “Stand Your Ground” law.

Flack came from all directions following the decision, including a letter written from 14 attorney generals across the country to the Department of Justice requesting a probe into whether Perry violated Perry’s civil rights.

“When states fail to protect their residents from such violations of our civil rights, it’s imperative that DOJ steps in and ensures that justice is served. We urge the DOJ to investigate this incident and demonstrate that this will not be tolerated in America,” said New York Attorney General Letitia James in a statement.

Travis County District Attorney José Garza announced Tuesday his office will request a writ of mandamus from the state Court of Criminal Appeals to have the pardon overturned, per the Texas Tribune. He argued the governor interfered with lower court rulings in the case and that Perry’s case didn’t even meet the criteria to justify a pardon. Garza also wishes to argue the case against the pardon in front of the court.

“Not only did he circumvent the process for pardons, he exceeded his authority and violated the separation of powers doctrine,” the prosecutor said about Abbott, via NBC News.

‘Boy Meets World’ star Trina McGee reflects on being pregnant at 54

[ad_1]

This week, actress Trina McGee announced that she’s expecting her fourth child on Instagram.

“At the tender age of 54, I have found myself pregnant,” she wrote also sharing plans to take a hiatus from social media. “Please bless us with your prayers for a safe delivery.”

Following her announcement, McGee opened up about her journey to pregnancy with Entertainment Tonight (ET). Though the “Boy Meets World” star is already the mother of three adult children—Ramia, 31, Langston, 29, and Ezra, 25—from previous relationships, the star revealed that she and husband Marcello Thedford always hoped to have a child together.

“I have been saying I wanted to have a baby with my current husband of 16 years for quite a while,” she told ET, explaining how the couple explored various conception avenues. After failing to conceive without intervention, the couple hesitantly considered in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Ultimately, it was Belizian holistic practices that helped McGee get pregnant. Traveling to the Caribbean island, the actress leaned on shamans and members of the Garifuna community for natural remedies. According to McGee, the medicinal herbs and healthy, low-stress lifestyle helped her and her husband not only become parents but also reverse her menopause symptoms.

“The number one thing for me is to not partake in any stress and stay away from negativity as much as I can,” McGee said, emphasizing the impact stress had on her body. “That pertains to what I put on TV…what I look at on my phone…there’s so much drama and violence and negativity out there as soon as you turn on the screen. I really want to be pointed when I turn on the screen — what I’m watching. Because stress, for me, is the biggest factor.”

Recommended Stories

While the star steers away from stress, she has not been able to escape traditional pregnancy symptoms like nausea, hunger and fatigue. Describing this new journey to motherhood as a “miracle, beautiful and triumphant,” McGee’s primary concern is to stay positive and give birth to a healthy baby.

However, McGee’s pregnancy is considered high-risk, per the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which found that  pregnancies in women over the age of 35 face a considerable amount of “adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes.”

“Honestly, I didn’t think it was such a big deal … and suddenly I realized it’s very [inspirational] for a lot of women who are over 40, who are looking to conceive,” McGee told “Good Morning America.”

“When I was typing [my Instagram post], that’s what I was feeling, like there’s somebody out there that is dealing with this that might need a little help and inspiration.”

Amidst her excitement, the actress says she may reach out to stars like Naomi Campbell and Janet Jackson, who had babies in their fifties. Admittedly nervous about finding the energy to raise a newborn and maintain her career, McGee shared the beauty of having a baby later in life.

“I have all this wisdom now, and I know things. I made all these mistakes and I had some real triumphs with my other kids, too,” she added. “So now I can combine all that, and I can pour it into this child, and I can prepare him or her for the realities ahead.”

Copyright Claims on Reactions to Kendrick Lamar’s Diss Tracks?

[ad_1]

The beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake ended nearly a month ago, and fans on social media are still doing their best to keep it alive.

If you were unaware, during the peak of the beef, streamers and YouTubers played a big part in driving the narrative on which rapper was “winning.” YouTube channels posting reactions to the songs as they were being released were almost just as important as the songs themselves.

In the midst of that, many YouTubers were very vocal about Lamar lifting the copyright claims for the diss tracks, making it easy for the creators to profit from their videos.

No Life Shaq, who has nearly 4.5 million subscribers on YouTube, was among the creators who spoke positively about Lamar’s decision.

But this week, there have been claims that the reaction videos to those diss tracks have since been hit with copyright strikes and that the revenue creators made from them has been claimed.

This interaction between a fan and popular YouTuber Scru Face Jean has led people to believe this is true.

However, despite this interaction, other content creators have denied this. In response to the above interaction, content creator Zias wrote in a tweet on Tuesday, “Nobody videos got striked, just auto claimed. Label released the claims for 3wks during the height of it to allow ppl to make money from it in that period, before reclaiming it. You don’t lose any revenue you generated before a claim.”

In another YouTube video, No Life Shaq took a similar stance, saying that Kendrick is the one who decided to lift copyright claims on those reaction videos and that Universal Music Group (UMG) came in weeks later to hit content creators with copyright strikes.

In the meantime, it seems that Kendrick has been more important business to attend to: On Wednesday, the “Not Like Us” MC announced “The Pop Out – Ken & Friends Concert” at The Forum in Los Angeles on Juneteenth.

It seems that he wasn’t lying when he said, “Sometimes you gotta pop out and show n****s.”

Billie Eilish Directs Official Music Video For “CHIHIRO” – Where Is The Buzz

[ad_1]

Billie Eilish has unveiled the official music video for “CHIHIRO,” a standout track from her third album, “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT,” which has been met with critical acclaim and record-breaking success. Directed by Eilish herself, the video presents a dream-like narrative that explores the depths of the human mind.

In the video, Eilish navigates long, dark hallways and faces the constant shutting of doors, symbolizing the various corners of the mind. Alongside her co-star, Nat Wolff, she delves into an inescapable connection that visually represents the internal push and pull of deep emotions such as fear, love, and desire. This evocative portrayal underscores the idea that no matter how hard we try to escape our deepest feelings, they inevitably catch up to us.

The release of “CHIHIRO” follows the monumental success of “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT,” which has amassed over 1 billion global streams and claimed the #1 spot in 25 countries. The album, released on May 17th, set new records by selling 339,000 units and 90,000 vinyl copies in its first week in the U.S., surpassing the sales of Eilish’s previous albums. This achievement makes Eilish one of only two artists, and the youngest, to have sold more than 300,000 units in the first week in the last eight years.

Additionally, Eilish is the first female solo artist to have an album with three songs—”LUNCH,” “CHIHIRO,” and “BIRDS OF A FEATHER”—garnering over 8 million streams daily on the Spotify Global Chart within its first week. “CHIHIRO” itself debuted in the Top 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has become the fastest non-single in history to reach 100 million streams on Spotify.

Fans can look forward to seeing Billie Eilish live as she embarks on the North American leg of her HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: THE TOUR this fall, with plans to extend the tour to Europe and Australia in 2025.

Fatherhood comes with a lot of responsibility, which can sometimes take a toll on men’s mental health. Multiple studies have found that journaling and writing down one’s thoughts and reflections can improve emotional awareness and mindfulness.

“Think of journaling as your brain’s external hard drive – a place to store thoughts, fears, random ideas, and even those sneaky self-criticisms that wake you at 3 a.m,” therapist Jennifer Gray told Forbes. “This not only helps you see how far you’ve come but also proves that life can oscillate between different feelings and experiences and still be an overall upward trend.”

Inside Then Out is a Black-owned wellness brand that believes the best way forward is inward. Through its various journals and prompts, the brand encourages users to create “intentional moments to slow down.”

Help the new dad in your life get better every day with the brand’s “Better Every Day Journal” ($39.95), which offers 365 days of prompts designed for self-love, reflection and growth.

Black General Mills Employees Allege Racism in Georgia Plant

[ad_1]

Photo: Justin Sullivan (Getty Images)

Food processing powerhouse General Mills is facing legal action as a group of Black employees calls the company out on a decades-long history of racism in a suburban Atlanta plant.

On June 2, eight Black employees filed a lawsuit against the company, which includes Cheerios, Betty Crocker and Bisquick in its portfolio, for actions they say have favored white employees since the 1980s.

According to their suit, the plaintiffs allege a group of white managers and human resources employees who referred to themselves as the “Good Ole Boys” did things like choosing white employees for promotions over more qualified Black employees and used racist symbols as intimidation tactics to keep Black employees from filing complaints.

The workers shared the example of a mural — visible in the factory between 2005 and 2021 — which used General Mills mascots like the Honey Nut Cheerios bee to represent Confederate leaders like Gen. Stonewall Jackson.

In another example, one of the Black employees said that when he found “KKK” written on his lunchbox back in 2006, he was forced to submit a writing sample to prove someone else was to blame.

“The ‘Good Ole Boys’ believe that history and symbols that have been co-opted or misappropriated by the Ku Klux Klan and other white supremacist hate groups are useful to keep Black people ‘in their place’ and discourage Black people from speaking or taking action against the disparate treatment of Black employees at the Covington facility,” language from the suit reads.

According to the Human Rights Policy on the company website, General Mills says it is “committed to creating a culture that ensures zero harm to our employees by establishing safe and healthy working conditions” and that it “values diversity and considers it core to our business strategy.”

General Mills has not commented on the suit, but the plaintiffs hope a trial will result in “compensatory and punitive damages for hundreds of Black employees in the last four years who suffered adverse employment actions.”
