WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are stepping up their reelection pitch to Black voters, a key part of their 2020 winning coalition that has shown signs of fraying.

They’ll launch a new Black voter outreach effort during a visit to the battleground state of Pennsylvania on Wednesday. The two will stop at Girard College, an independent boarding school in Philadelphia with a predominantly Black student body, and visit a small business to speak to members of the Black Chamber of Commerce.

The Philadelphia stops are the start of what the campaign is describing as an eight-figure, summerlong effort to engage Black student organizations, community groups and faith centers.

“We will continue to be aggressive, innovative, and thorough in our work to earn the support of the very voters who sent Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to the White House in 2020 and will do so again in 2024,” said Quentin Fulks, Biden’s principal deputy campaign manager.

The push comes at a moment when Biden has seen his solid support among Black voters show signs of erosion. Among Black adults, Biden’s approval has dropped from 94% when he started his term to just 55%, according to an Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll published in March.

The economy has been a particular thorn in Biden’s side since 2022, when inflation hit a 40-year high. But there have also been signs of discontent in the Black community more recently over Biden’s handling of the seven-month Israel-Hamas war.

Turning out Black voters could prove pivotal for Biden’s chances in what are expected to be among the most closely contested states — Arizona, Georgia, Michigan Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Biden beat his predecessor and 2024 challenger, former President Donald Trump, in all six states in 2020, but he could face a more difficult climb this year.

Trump, for his part, has been offering himself as a better president for Black voters than Biden. At a rally last week in the Bronx, he railed against Biden on immigration and said “the biggest negative impact” of the influx of migrants in New York is “against our Black population and our Hispanic population who are losing their jobs, losing their housing, losing everything they can lose.”

The Biden campaign says it hopes to use the new engagement effort in part to remind Black voters of some of the Democratic administration’s achievements of his term.

The Black unemployment rate sits at 5.6%, according to the latest federal government data, compared to the average of about 8% from 2016 to 2020 and 11% from 2000 to 2015. Black household wealth has surged, and Biden’s effort to cancel billions in student loan debt has disproportionately impacted Black borrowers.

Biden also points to his appointment of Ketanji Brown Jackson as the first Black female justice on the U.S. Supreme Court and his pick of Harris as the first Black woman to serve as vice president.

The president’s visit to Philadelphia follows on a series of engagements with Black community members in recent weeks, including hosting plaintiffs in the 1954 Supreme Court decision that struck down institutionalized racial segregation in public schools, a commencement address at Morehouse College in Atlanta, and a virtual address to the Rev. Al Sharpton’s racial justice conference.

Their rule is absolute until the arrival of Kang Ha (Lee Chae-min), a scholarship student with a vendetta. Kang Ha’s presence disrupts the delicate balance of power, driven by a thirst for revenge that threatens to unravel the intricate web of relationships at the top.

Yoon He-ra (Chi Hae-won) and Lee Woo-jin (Lee Won-jeong) join this dynamic cast, who complete the circle of exclusive students that govern the school. Each character is carefully woven into the school’s hierarchy, reflecting the complexities and power struggles of adult society.

Director Bae Hyeon-jin sheds light on the meticulous efforts put into crafting the world of “Hierarchy.” “Jooshin High School takes pride in its established order, which has never been challenged,” Bae explains. “We meticulously worked on the details of each space, like the designs, textures, and lighting. We also used structural elements to serve as metaphors about the characters’ circumstances, from the old building, which embodies the school’s pride and traditions, to the staircases, which represent the hierarchy at Jooshin.”

The trailer teases a brewing conflict between Ri-an and Kang Ha, suggesting a seismic shift in the school’s social order. The tension escalates as Jae-i confides in Ri-an about her desire to break up, a revelation that threatens to sow chaos within their tightly-knit group.

“Hierarchy” masterfully blends romance with mystery, where every relationship comes at a cost. This series is poised to captivate audiences with its complex characters and suspenseful narrative, featuring a cast of rising young stars set to become the next generation of K-drama icons.

Pre-COVID, I used to fly a lot. There were several months that I’d be on a plane twice a month going back and forth between Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles or Atlanta or wherever. I know some of you travel way more than that, but it matters not — the point is this: A brotha was on a plane constantly enough to learn a thing or two about the various airports across the nation. A lot of times, I’d be traveling with other people for work, and most of our flights would be booked at the same time. And that’s when the conversations always started about when we needed to be at the airport. 

And that’s the moment all of our lives changed forever. 

Just kidding. But for some reason, social media has lately been aflutter with conversations that have moved into my group chats about whether or not you need to be at the airport two hours before your flight or not. I don’t know who started this latest round of conversations, but I’m fairly certain how you feel about that pre-flight time frame should be discussed before you marry somebody. I’m not even joking. But we’ll get back to that. 

Let’s start with me. For as long as I can remember, I have held to the belief that you need to be at the airport two hours before your flight if it’s domestic and three hours if it is international. I don’t know who came up with the rule but it was passed down to me, and I will do the same to my kids. In my head, it was a nefarious plot hatched by the airlines and the airports to get people to the airport to spend money on food and things you only decide you need because you have time to kill so you peruse random stores in airport terminals. Airports have become so much more cushy and commercial that you can have a downright amazing shopping experience in one. If you’re in Charlotte, you can sit in a rocking chair and relax. Shoot, Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has so many good places to shop and eat it’s mind-boggling. But so do all the airports now; from Dallas-Fort Worth to Los Angeles, even the newest terminal at Washington-Reagan is a shopper’s bonanza. 

But here’s the thing, and why that two-hour (three-hour) thing is outdated for many of us. I currently have TSA PreCheck AND CLEAR, which means that every time I go to the airport I’m trying to see if I can break a record for the shortest amount of time from check-in to gate. Two hours? That’s for regular people who won’t apply for TSA PreCheck. CLEAR is for the folks who like to spend money unnecessarily — hi, it’s me. I have literally gotten to the airport with 30 minutes to spare on a flight where I had only a carry-on bag and checked in the night before … and still had time to spare. Next time, we’ll see what happens within 20 minutes.

Times have changed. Sure, more people seem to be traveling despite the ever-rising costs, but it also really depends on the airport and what extra pre-flight services you’ve paid for. Even with TSA PreCheck and CLEAR, if I’m at Atlanta’s airport, I’m absolutely trying to get there with at least an hour and a half in my back pocket. I’ve been in CLEAR x TSA PreCheck lines that rivaled the regular security lines. I’ve seen celebrities get humbled in that airport. But if I’m in Huntsville, Alabama, I might actually show up 20 minutes before my flight because the lines are never long. 

Like with all things in life, it all just depends. Now, because of how I was raised, I still tend to be READY to get to the airport two hours in advance. My wife? Eh. She definitely is from the “all I need is an hour” community, and she doesn’t even have TSA PreCheck or CLEAR. When I’m traveling with her, I try to make us leave hours in advance; that doesn’t happen easily, or at all, so ya know, tensions may rise on occasion. We still love each other. We just have to walk way faster to gates than I like. We flew to Ghana, and I definitely know that we absolutely did not get to anybody’s airport three hours before our flight. I won’t say whose fault that is, but you know how I like to get down. 

Point is, like most things in life, how early you need to get there just depends. If you’re a person who doesn’t like to rush, two hours makes sense. If you’re a person who loves to tempt fate even though you swear you don’t, go on ahead and give an hour a shot even if you have to check a bag … at Atlanta’s airport. Running through an airport is good cardio from what I hear. 

But if you miss your flight, that’s on you, boo boo, since for as long as you’ve been flying I’m sure you’ve been told to get there two hours early.

Or go get your TSA PreCheck and CLEAR if you’re feeling rich and show up when you feel like it.

As the temperature outside starts to heat up, there’s no doubting many will start looking for shade. But I’m not too sure the kind of fun shade that some fans think Oscar-nominated actor Sterling K. Brown recently threw at Jennifer Lopez is the kind they’ll be grasping at anytime soon. I’ll explain.

During the press run for Lopez, Brown and “Barbie” star Simu Liu’s latest Netflix film “Atlas,” the trio of actors sat down with Unilad to answer a variety of questions. “Atlas” follows Atlas Shepherd (Lopez), a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence, who joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. But when plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it.

When asked by Liu what their go-to comfort meal was after a long journey, J-Lo began her answer by prefacing with the fact that she’s Puerto Rican so she leans more towards rice and beans. However, her explanation must’ve been one that Brown had heard a thousand times before, as he commenced to throwing what many people online viewed as a subtle jab.

“Go-to comfort meal? It could be any — well, I grew up, I’m Puerto Rican. So I like rice and beans…” Lopez said, to which Brown interjected: “Are you Puerto Rican? Get out of here. Arroz, frijoles, a me gusta French toast.”

“Sterling K Brown & JLo gate has me weak, we did she do to him? but now i love him even more,” wrote one user on X/Twitter.

“Idk what JLo did to sterling brown but he is being so shady on this press tour lmao. like nice af and also shady af,” wrote another.

“Sterling K Brown telling J-Lo “You’re Puerto Rican? Get out of here!” Is the most unique way to tell somebody wrdgaf,” wrote another.

“I need to know what happened between Sterling K. Brown and JLo because he is not letting her breathe in this press tour,” wrote another.

Whether or not Brown’s shade was serious or silly, it looks like we may have an answer to why he poked fun at her after all. In another interview with Access Hollywood, Brown revealed that he was “big” Lopez fan back in the day and that it was her first music video on MTV that may have spawned a three-and-half years-long breakup between him and his then-girlfriend, now-wife Ryan Michelle Bathe.

Brown described how back when he and Bathe were dating, they decided to watch the premiere for Lopez’s first music video on MTV years ago. As the “American Fiction” star was watching, Bathe was watching him for his reaction, which was intentionally calm and still and without blinks. That in turn caused his eyes to water, prompting his wife to question: “are you crying over JLo?”

“I should’ve changed the channel,” Brown jokingly told the outlet. Needless to say, Bathe and Brown found their way back to each other eventually. So in a sense, because Lopez was unintentionally responsible for their breakup, maybe that’s why Brown is poking fun at her…to get back at her for the misery she unknowingly caused.

I mean, it’s plausible…right?

Jude Bellingham has been crowned La Liga’s best player at the prestigious awards gala held in Sardinia. The English midfielder has had an exceptional debut season with Real Madrid, netting 19 goals and leading the club to its 36th league title.

The accolade is decided through a combination of votes from fans, club captains, and a panel of experts. Bellingham outshone a talented field including Takefusa Kubo (Real Sociedad), Antoine Griezmann (Atlético Madrid), Artem Dovbyk (Girona), Kirian Rodríguez (UD Las Palmas), Robert Lewandowski (Barcelona), Vinicius Jr. (Real Madrid), Isco (Real Betis), Aleix García (Girona), and Alexander Sorloth (Villarreal).

Although Bellingham was unable to attend the ceremony in person due to preparations for the upcoming Champions League final, he shared a heartfelt message: “Thank you for this award, it’s an honour to receive it. I’m sorry I couldn’t attend because I have been preparing for the Champions League final. I would like to dedicate it to my teammates, the coaching staff, and, most importantly, to the fans of the best club in the world. It’s a pleasure every time I play for this team. ¡Hala Madrid!”

Real Madrid’s dominance this season was further highlighted with the inclusion of several of their players in the 2023/24 LaLiga dream team. Alongside Bellingham, the dream team features Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal, Antonio Rüdiger, Federico Valverde, and Vinicius Jr.
