The last few years have been an emotional roller coaster for Tiffany Haddish. The actress/comedian has suffered the loss of her beloved grandmother, a public breakup and two DUI arrests. Her recent run of unpredictable behavior has led some fans to wonder what’s going on with the “Girls Trip” star.
From Florida A&M To Hollywood: Will Packer The Electrical Engineer | Securing the Bag: Part 1
Well, there’s no need to keep wondering, as Haddish is breaking everything down in her new memoir, “I Curse You With Joy,” releasing May 7. Among the “Haunted Mansion” actress’ major revelations is the fact that she’s been sober for six months. She explains that she made the decision following her November DUI arrest.
“I’m very sober. I haven’t had a drink since [the incident],”she told People. “When I sit back and look at my life, everything that’s crazy that’s happened is because somebody or myself had alcohol in their system.”
No matter what you think of Tiffany Haddish, she doesn’t appear to be wrong about this one. Alcohol can be found at the root of many of our most embarrassing and problematic moments. If she felt like things were getting out of hand, good for her for having the courage to handle the problem before irreparable damage was done to herself or someone else. In fact, she believes being sober is working out so well for her, she’s challenging her fans to follow in her footsteps.
“Stop drinking for six months and just see how your life changes,” she said. “You’re going to have your snatched body back, you’re going to see your relationships will be better and you’ll stop dealing with people you don’t need to be dealing with. My issue was, I was waking up next to ugly men.”
Alcohol isn’t the only thing she’s given up for six months. Haddish has also been celibate, explaining, “They went together.”
“With alcohol [my mind] would just be like ‘You’re horny, let’s just do it,’” she said. Without the outside influence, her response has changed to “Nah, nope.”
Just because she’s chosen celibacy, it doesn’t mean she’s sitting at home alone. The “Night School” actress reveals that she’s currently “dating multiple guys” and “They all know about each other.”
If you want to know all the details of Tiffany’s recent adventures, “I Curse You With Joy” is now available for pre-order, then hits bookshelves and e-readers May 7.

R&B singer Chris Brown is beefing with Atlanta rapper Quavo. What world are we living in? And what could have happened between these two artists for them to feel the need to drop diss tracks?
Inside The Unfortunate Death of Rapper Takeoff
We’re here to explain it all.
Where did it start?
The feud between the two artists seems to have started over Karreuche Tran, whom they have both dated over the years.
If you recall, Brown and Tran dated on and off for nearly five years from November 2010 to March 2015.
Since then Quavo has also been rumored to have dated Tran on and off since 2017.
This is all the while Quavo and Brown continued to make music together including the songs, “Just For The Night,” “Whippin,” and “Leanin.”
But in recent years, Brown has started to take some shots during his appearances on “Crew League,” a league where celebrities and their “crews” compete in a basketball tournament. After winning the championship in 2021 and 2022, Brown called out the Atlanta rapper, claiming that he was “scared.”
At the time, it looked like it was just friendly competition. But now it’s clear that there was real hate between the opposing sides.
Diss tracks
Brown made the beef between the two official by seemingly throwing shots at Quavo on the deluxe version of his 2023 album, “11:11.”
On the song, “Freak,” Brown said, “Okay, now f****n my old b*****s ain’t gon’ make us equal.”
While it took nearly five months, Quavo responded two weeks ago on his track, “Tender” where he raps about Brown’s history of domestic violence and his break up with Karreuche Tran.
QUAVO – TENDER (Official Visualizer)
Brown wasted no time responding to the Atlanta rapper, releasing a diss track of his own titled, “Weakest Link.”
Although Brown isn’t known as an MC, the shots he took at Quavo were scathing and rapper-worthy. He specifically said that “everybody” wished that he died instead of his uncle and fellow Migos member, Takeoff.
He also mentioned how Quavo was seen on video fighting with his ex-girlfriend, Saweetie, in an elevator.
Weakest Link
On Monday, Quavo fired back at the controversial R&B singer on the track, “Over H**s & B*****s” and called Brown “crackhead Michael Jackson” and continued to bring up his track record of domestic violence.
The cover art for the track shows Quavo choking Brown.
He added, “Damn and I was excited .. that shit don’t even need a response. Takeoff rap better.”
Saweetie jumps in
On Monday, the “ICY GRL” rapper later exposed a message she received from Quavo the day after the Migos member dropped, “Over H**s & B*****s.”
On the song, Quavo mentioned his ex-girlfriend by name, rapping, “I can take a model b**h and make a Saweetie, n**a/ Crackhead Michael Jackson, b**h, you better beat it, n**a.”
This seemed to piss Saweetie off who shared a screenshot of Quavo sending her a DM on Instagram in January. In the caption she wrote, “hopefully the model he turns into me replies.”

Popular Twitch streamer Alinity has once again found herself on the wrong side of Twitch’s rules, this time for copyright infringement. Known for her Just Chatting streams and previous controversies, Alinity has been issued a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) strike, leading to her channel’s suspension.
During a recent stream where she was watching a reality TV series with her viewers, Alinity received an unexpected ban. She later shared an email from Twitch on Twitter, which had the title, ‘Complete copyright school to remove your copyright strike.’ Despite the situation, Alinity seemed to find humor in the requirement, posting laughing emojis alongside the email screenshot.
To regain access to her channel, Alinity has been instructed to complete a ‘copyright school’ module and pass a short quiz. The email from Twitch explained, “Copyright law can be confusing, which is why we’ve created resources to help you understand some copyright basics, how Twitch’s DMCA process works, and to remind you of your responsibilities when you stream.”
This approach echoes Twitch’s previous actions, such as when popular streamer xQc had to attend a therapy session to be unbanned. Alinity has not completed the 30-minute course, and her Twitch channel remains suspended. According to Twitch’s guidelines, accumulating three copyright strikes would result in the channel’s termination.
In an effort to highlight the people who are leading colleges and universities across the nation, we at Watch The Yard reached out to Hampton University and did an interview with Lillian Carr the 2023-2024 Student Government Association president.
The position of SGA president is a highly respected role and there is a special pride that one takes in being elected by their peers to lead. Carr, who is majoring in Strategic Communications/ Leadership Studies, is from Tampa, FL. She is a proud Spring 2023 initiate of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
We interviewed Lillian Carr, and talked to her about her position, goals, future and what it means to hold this type of leadership position in 2023-2024.
Read the full interview below.
What is the biggest thing you’ve learned as an SGA president so far?
Through serving as SGA President, I’ve learned that it’s important to establish ministry in any role that you take on. You have to be a vessel that allows people the comfort to talk to you when they are trying to find the words or if they need a shoulder to lean on. I’ve learned the true meaning of favor and how you must cherish every single moment, no matter how big or small, that you are blessed to receive.
What made you decide to attend Hampton University for undergrad?
I decided to attend Hampton because I wanted to attend an institution where I would be the majority. Growing up a military child, I’ve always been in the minority population fighting for my voice to be heard. I knew that by attending hampton, I would be choosing myself and the legacy to follow me. It was a true opportunity to take my power back and engage in a program that would be meaningful to my future, meet the most incredible people, and enjoy college life to its fullest.
How has Hampton University molded you into the person you are today?
Hampton is every reason that I am who I am today. Because of Hampton, I am confident in a way that I never imagined. I firmly believe that if there isn’t a seat at the table for me, it doesn’t matter because not only can I make one, but go and be the table wherever I am meant to be. I’ve always been a lover of people but I now have a heart that longs for creating memories that will withstand this lifetime. I love being a Pirate and how my Home by the Sea has truly enabled me to be the standard of excellence.
What specific initiatives have you headed up this year (or are planning) and how do you think they will improve the school and surrounding community?
I have worked diligently to enhance the student experience for Hamptonians. This year, I chaired the homecoming committee, elevating the entire homecoming experience and supporting students in receiving an artist of their choosing. Additionally, during SGA week, a number of programming was provided to students where some had the opportunity to receive an IPad. SGA scholarship winners received additional funding through our efforts to ensure we are doing our part in supporting the students. I implemented the first annual Ignite Your Hampton Essence Student Conference and aided in development of the Student Judiciary Committee. Because this administration has worked extremely hard, I could be listing our work for decades. As the semester closes, I hope to continue increasing outdoor seating areas for students and improving our overall accessibility.
How is your SGA administration/school currently working on attending to the mental health of students?
Wellness Days are extremely important to my student body. Every semester students are offered one which allows them to take time to reset, rejuvenate, and relax. Additionally, we recently were awarded the SheCare Wellness Pods by Taraji P. Henson and other affiliates. Through this implementation, students have the opportunity to engage in amazing workshops and recenter their aura. Students also have the opportunity to attend the counseling center on a regular basis, as well as mental health days in their respective classes.
What does leadership mean to you?
Leadership is the true essence of who I am. Its meaning was instilled in me at a very young age and over time, I’ve learned that leadership is a calling, not a passion. When you are called to lead, in any capacity, you must rise to the occasion and take heed to your instruction. The core of this value is service. You can’t be a leader without the heart to serve. If you can learn to implement servant leadership in all you do, there is no stopping.
We now live in a digital world, what do you think schools need to do to represent themselves online in 2023/2024?
Schools should be doing their part in taking advantage of using social media as a tool. We live in a digital world so it is important that our schools maneuver with the times and take action in creating a strong platform. Without investing in establishing brand awareness, many target audiences could be lost.
Why do you think Watch The Yard is important to Black students and college culture?
Watch The Yard is a true testament and reflection of the beauty nested in HBCUs. The power of Watch the Yard is seen in the signaling of the page on several D9/HBCU related instagrams or the whispers about what’s been posted on our campuses. The organization proves how significant our legacy is as a people and how we embrace it.
What do you plan on doing after graduation?
In the Fall of 2024, I will be attending Harvard to pursue a Master of Divinity and Juris Doctor dual degree program.
We at Watch The Yard would like to commend Lillian Carr for her work as the SGA president of Hampton University.
Share this on Facebook and help us highlight Lillian Carr and Hampton University.

Trigger warning: This article contains mentions of sexual assault and rape.
Cardi B is letting her thoughts fly when it comes to homosexuality and how she believes some people become gay.
The Root Staff Reacts To The 2023 Grammy Awards Big Wins, Best Looks, & More
These latest musings were inspired by the latest show she’s binge-watching, the new Netflix series called “Baby Reindeer,” which tells the true story of a comedian Danny trying to get on his feet and make it big and winds up with a stalker.
(Slight spoilers ahead)
For context, one of the major series plot points is that in Danny’s quest to figure things out, he winds up being drugged and repeated sexually assaulted and raped by a man who was supposed to assist him in his career. Because of this, Danny begins questioning his own identity and sexuality and further explores sexual relations with both men and women in an effort to figure himself out and navigate
It’s that part that made Cardi reflect on the scarcity of stories from men’s perspective when it comes to their experience with sexual assault and decipher that while she believes some people are born gay—others discover they are through their assault.
“It’s so important for us to know certain male perspectives about these types of things because women go through a lot of sexual assault, but we don’t really get to hear or see what other men go through when they experience sexual assault. It shocked me,” she said in a since expired video from her Instagram.
She continued:
“I believe there’s some men that are born gay. I have a cousin that I just knew since he was two years old he was gay…And there’s men that get sexually assaulted then they find out they are gay. People are always going to be judgmental, people are always going to not accept them and stuff like that. But it’s like people sometimes don’t even know their story or how they got there. That’s why sometimes you got to be more open about certain things because its like you just dont know people’s story andwhy they like their preference and how they even got there.”
She then went on to say that “not everybody is born gay,” citing the characters initial heterosexuality before his assault.
“He just wanted to identify what he likes, all because he got sexually assaulted,” she said.
As a heterosexual Black woman, I’m in no position to speak on this but what I will say is that it’s never wise to invalidate anyone’s experience and journey to figure themselves out, and I hope all survivors of sexual assault continue to get the help they need.
