According to Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Police, the 54 year-old actor was swimming at Playa Grande, near the town of Cahuita in the province of Limón on the Caribbean coast, around 2:30 p.m. local time on Sunday when a strong current suddenly pulled him deeper into the ocean.

Despite beachgoers’ efforts to save him, Warner could not be revived.

“People who were on the beach tried to help Warner,” the police confirmed.

“He was declared dead at the scene by the Red Cross.”
