We Should Be Skeptical of Kim Porter’s Alleged Memoir

[ad_1]

Updated 9/24/24 at 6:58 p.m. ET

As controversy continues to swirl around the alleged Kim Porter “memoir” currently selling on Amazon, Erica Wolf, an attorney for Sean Combs, has issued a statement calling the project a “fake” and condemning co-author Chris Todd’s disrespect of Porter.

“The Kim Porter ‘memoir’ is fake. It is also offensive – a shameless attempt to profit from tragedy,” Wolf said in a statement to The Root. “Chris Todd has no respect for Ms. Porter or her family, who deserve better. Unlike the fabrications in his sickening ‘memoir,’ it is an established fact that Ms. Porter died of natural causes. May she rest in peace.”

See original story below

The shocking arrest of Sean “Diddy” Combs has caused renewed interest in his relationships. In the aftermath of the allegations against the music mogul, Kim Porter, the late mother of four of his children, has found her name once again dragged into controversy.

Jamal T. Millwood’s “Kim’s Lost Words: A Journey for Justice from the Other Side…” has become a bestseller on Amazon’s charts. Released on Sept. 6 — 10 days before Combs’ arrest and indictment — the book allegedly comprises Porter’s journal entries during her relationship with the rapper/producer.

However, those closest to Porter are calling the project a straight sham: her close friend Eboni Elektra took to Instagram to clarify the rumors surrounding the project.

“THERE IS NO BOOK! There never was. Several people continue to speak about and spread blatant lies regarding this ‘mystery manuscript’ as if it were true,” Elektra wrote. “People…IT’S NOT. Kim would never do such a thing and that’s the honest to God truth. God knows the truth and so does she.”

Singer/producer Al B. Sure, with whom Porter shared son Quincy, also called the project “FAKE Unauthorized nonsense” in a lengthy Instagram post.

Sure — whose real name is Albert Joseph Brown III — is also threatening to sue Millwood and publisher Chris Todd over content in the book alleging he had sex with Diddy, according to Page Six.

Todd explained how he allegedly acquired these journals, raising yet another red flag with it’s sketchiness.

“I was lucky enough to meet someone that purported to have Kim Porter’s flash drive,” he told Daily Mail in an interview. “I know the celebrity source pretty well. I know how close they were to Kim and Diddy, and all the people in the hip-hop community. This was supposedly for Kim Porter from the grave, to come forward and tell her story.”

While we may never know if the contents of the book are authentic with absolute certainty, having those closest to Porter publicly cast doubt on it certainly raises eyebrows.

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation pledges over $15 million if they win Hell’s Kitchen casino bid

[ad_1]

Jay-Z is ensuring the people of New York City will benefit if Roc Nation and Caesars Entertainment win one of the three highly coveted casino licenses currently up for grabs in New York City.

The music mogul and Roc Nation have announced they will commit over $250 million in grant money for Hell’s Kitchen if the neighborhood lands the bid for a Caesars Palace Times Square casino, reports Page Six.

The outlet adds that Roc Nation would give an initial $15 million to the local community in addition to “regular” grants based on .5% of the casino’s performance.

The Caesars Palace Times Square team has reportedly already met with residents of nearby affordable housing communities to introduce the concept and outline how they would benefit.

“We are New Yorkers. Supporting and providing opportunities for our neighborhoods and community isn’t just a part of Roc Nation’s ethos… it’s our collective responsibility,” Jay-Z expressed in a statement according to Page Six. “Any proposal that wins a gaming license will undoubtedly profit. Our vision is to give back to New York and ensure that the Broadway community, Hell’s Kitchen, and the surrounding businesses and areas all benefit. And not just for a minute, but for the long term.”

Roc Nation joined forces with Caesars Entertainment and SL Green to enter the battle for one of the three casino licenses up for grabs in the city in June. Under their proposed plan, Roc Nation said they would give grant funding from a new trust controlled by community residents. The “$250 million community funding promise” would also include improvements in Times Square, Hell’s Kitchen, and other surrounding areas.

While Roc Nation’s group contends that its bid has received support from “over 150 organizations and businesses including restaurants, hotels, residents, unions and Broadway stakeholders,” the plan to add new casinos in New York has been met with mixed reactions.

This won’t be Jay-Z’s first foray into the gambling and gaming industry. This latest update has arrived just as Jay-Z was in Atlantic City to unveil a new brick-and-mortar location for the sports betting platform Fanatics at the Ocean Casino Resort. Hova is a co-founder of the online sportsbook alongside Michael Rubin and the partnership has been fruitful.

“We came up with the idea to do this together three years ago,” Rubin told The Philadelphia Inquirer during the opening event.

“Look, I’ll tell you the goal I have in mind. I want to be No. 1 in the online sports betting/iGaming market,” he continued. “One year later, we’ve already got 5% of that market. We’re growing very quickly. You look at two incredible companies, FanDuel and DraftKings, but everybody else is kind of losing shares. We’re picking up a share every single month.”

Jay-Z cut the ribbon on the official opening and even made it to a table or two to roll dice with attendees.

“Who wouldn’t want to gamble with Jay-Z?” Rubin told the outlet.

Only time will tell.

Michael B. Jordan to Play Twins in Ryan Coogler’s Horror Thriller ‘Sinners’ — First Look Released – Where Is The Buzz

[ad_1]

The veil of secrecy has finally lifted on one of 2025’s most anticipated films. Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan have reunited for their fifth collaboration, Sinners, a supernatural horror thriller that promises to shake up the genre. Slated for a March 7, 2025 release from Warner Bros., Sinners transports audiences to the 1930s Jim Crow-era South, combining historical tension with supernatural terror.

The first trailer for the film dropped earlier this week, offering a glimpse into the eerie world Coogler has crafted. Known for keeping projects tightly under wraps, Coogler and his team had revealed little about Sinners since its announcement in January, only hinting at its setting and cast. That changed when Michael B. Jordan shared the film’s chilling poster on social media—a close-up of Jordan in two distinct costumes, fueling rumors that he’ll portray twin brothers. The post’s cryptic caption, “Dance with the devil… and he’ll follow you home,” has only heightened the intrigue.

Jordan leads a star-studded ensemble, with acting powerhouses Delroy Lindo (Malcolm X, The Harder They Fall), Jack O’Connell (Ferrari), and Hailee Steinfeld (Hawkeye, Spider-Verse) joining him. Rounding out the cast are Omar Benson Miller, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, and Li Jun Li, among others. The film is set to hit IMAX theaters, promising a grand, immersive experience for horror fans.

Coogler’s return to the director’s chair, his first since 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, marks another milestone in his ongoing partnership with Jordan. Their journey together began in 2013 with Fruitvale Station and has since grown through the Creed and Black Panther franchises. Their latest venture sparked industry buzz when it was revealed at a secret showcase for Hollywood insiders. A bidding war quickly erupted, with Warner Bros. ultimately securing the rights. The deal reunites Coogler and Jordan with Warner’s execs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, who were instrumental in the success of Creed III.

The Sinners production team is a powerhouse. Coogler’s Proximity Media, along with Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian, are at the helm. Two-time Oscar-winning composer Ludwig Göransson is also executive producing. Autumn Durald Arkapaw, the acclaimed cinematographer behind Wakanda Forever, is returning to lens Sinners. She teased the project earlier this year on Instagram.

Given their track record of creating powerful and thought-provoking films, Coogler and Jordan’s latest project, Sinners, is generating immense anticipation.

Mark your calendars for March 7, 2025, when Sinners descends into theaters.

Actor Samuel L. Jackson Opens Up About Difficulties with Wife

[ad_1]

There are very few A-list actors who’ve been together with their significant others as long as Samuel L. Jackson. The “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist” actor has been married to his wife LaTanya Richardson Jackson for 44 years — an impressive feat for any couple.

But during his latest interview with AARP The Magazine, he revealed the things they’ve had to overcome throughout their relationship, mainly pointing the blame at himself.

When asked, “How have you kept it going?” Jackson stated, “A lot of tolerance, because everybody’s got flaws, and not giving up when it would be easy to give up. I’ve done s**t in my marriage that’s crazy, you know? She has, too, in her head, or whatever in reality, but you got to go, ‘Is that a breakup offense?’ Or is it just that we need to spend a little time together and get some understanding about it?”

He adds, “Or there are certain things that you learn to ignore about people — that she’s learned to ignore about me. And one of the things she had to accept is that I’m going to go to work. I’m going to go to work all the time until, you know, it’s time.”

While some of those flaws Jackson is referencing may be about private matters we’re not privy to, it could also be about his past addiction to drugs, which he’s publicly opened up about.

During a 2016 interview with The Guardian, he shared, “ I had a very good theatre reputation. Granted, I was a f***ing drug addict and I was out of my mind a lot of the time, but I had a good reputation. Showed up on time, knew my lines, hit my marks. I just wasn’t making a lot of money, but I was very satisfied artistically.”

The couple met while living in Atlanta in 1968. Jackson was attending Morehouse and Richardson was attending Spelman. Both actors, the couple starred in a production of “The Sale.”

More than 50 years later, the theatre where they performed in their first production together is now called the LaTanya Richardson Jackson and Samuel L. Jackson Performing Arts Center.

Trina McGee shares she had a miscarriage after announcing she was pregnant at 54

[ad_1]

Three months after announcing she was expecting her fourth child at 54, Trina McGee has shared she experienced a miscarriage.

During an appearance on the “Tamron Hall” show, the actress revealed she lost the pregnancy.

“It wasn’t expected, it was closer to the end of the first trimester. We don’t have any real reasons why,” she said, adding, “I was still so grateful to have the experience of being able to conceive at this age and this time.”

McGee said she experienced a “lot of depression” after receiving the difficult news. “You know, It’s just kind of hard to get out of bed,” she explained.

McGee noted how much she really wanted the baby that, beyond “holistic” measures, including diet and lifestyle changes, was conceived naturally.

“There’s so many things that come when you really want a family, and you want your family to be complete,” she explained, adding, “It was very hard to face the fact that it’s not going to happen at this point in the junction.”

McGee, who turned 55 earlier this month, first announced she was expecting her fourth child with husband Courtland Davis in June in an Instagram post.

“At the tender age of 54 I have found myself pregnant,” she wrote in the post, set to “Baby Love” by The Supremes. “Please bless us with your prayers for a safe delivery. Thank you.”

In the caption, McGee added that she was going to “sign off social media for a bit,” telling her followers: “Thanks for your prayers and well wishes in advance.”

Already a mom to three adult children, ages 33, 30, and 26, McGee explained to Hall she was excited for the opportunity to “pour” all of the knowledge she’s gained into a new baby.

“When you’re a young parent, you miss some things,” she said.

At the start of the show, Hall noted that she was having “candid conversations” this week, and in that spirit, she asked McGee about her decision to share the news of her pregnancy so early on.

“I might have been a little immature in that,” she admitted, adding, “I was just so excited and so shocked. And I did realize, ‘okay this isn’t a bad thing,’ because there were so many women who really, even at 55 and older, still want to get pregnant … and don’t want to get boxed into this geriatric pregnancy thing.”

McGee noted that she isn’t sure if she wants to try for another baby after experiencing this loss. Given her age at the time the pregnancy was already considered high risk and required special care which she received from a family member who works as a holistic healer in Belize.

“Part of me doesn’t ever want to go through this again,” she said. “The conclusion I came to is, we’ll just keep loving each other, if something happens that way, fine, but I don’t want to put another anxiety on myself. Sometimes it really is better to let go and let God.”

Father Sentenced For Conspiring the Murder of PnB Rock

[ad_1]

Updated on Sept. 24, 2024 at 9:45a.m. ET (Two murder suspects have now been sentenced to prison)

The family of Philadelphia rap artist PnB Rock finally received justice two years after his untimely death. A 42-year-old father was found guilty of murder and sentenced after he sent his 17-year-old son to rob the rapper at a Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles in Los Angeles.

Back in August, a jury found Freddie Lee Trone guilty on one count of murder, two counts of robbery, and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office. On Monday (Sept. 23) Trone was finally sentenced to 31 years to life behind bars for the crime.

The DA’s office also reported a second defendant, Tremont Jones, was also found guilty on two counts of second-degree robbery and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery. Security footage puts Jones at the scene. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

During the two week trial leading up to the guilty verdicts, both sides admitted the teenager robbed Rock for his jewelry before shooting him in front of his family, per AP News. Although the defendant argued Trone only acted as an accessory to murder after the fact, the jury also held him responsible for sending his son to commit the crime.

In September 2022, the then 17-year-old walked into the Los Angeles restaurant wearing a ski mask. He approached Rock— real name Rakim Hasheem Allen— his girlfriend, and their now 4-year-old daughter before demanding Allen’s jewelry, according to BBC. After shooting him multiple times, the teen then stole some of Allen’s jewelry from his body before hopping into a getaway car driven by his father. The rapper was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Trone’s son is now 19, but due to his minor status when the murder was committed, his identity has not been released, and he is currently held at a juvenile detention facility. According to the DA’s office, he is scheduled for a status conference on Oct. 2.

“Today, justice has been served with the sentencing of two men for the tragic and senseless murder of Rakim Hasheem Allen, also known to many as the talented rap artist PnB Rock,” said District Attorney George Gascón following the sentencing. “I want to extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Rakim Allen. His life was cut short by an act of violence that no family should have to endure.”

He continued, “I also want to commend the tireless efforts of our Community Violence Reduction Division. Their dedication to this case demonstrates the importance of collaboration between law enforcement, prosecutors, and the community in reducing violence and bringing perpetrators to justice.”

Shauntel Trone, the teen’s step-mother, pleaded no contest in connection with the “Selfish” rapper’s death. She is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 16, 2025, per the DA’s office.

Memphis man testifies that he and another man killed rapper Young Dolph

[ad_1]

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A Memphis man testified on Monday that he and a second person shot and killed rapper Young Dolph after Big Jook, the brother of rapper Yo Gotti, put a hit on him.

Cornelius Smith identified himself and Justin Johnson as the two people seen on a Nov. 17, 2021, surveillance video exiting a white Mercedes outside a Memphis cookie store about 30 seconds after Young Dolph entered the store and then opening fire in broad daylight.

Smith was testifying in the first day of Johnson’s trial on charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and being a felon in possession of a gun.

Smith also faces murder and conspiracy charges. Johnson’s attorney, Luke Evans, told the jury in opening statements that they should not trust Smith’s testimony because he was just trying to save himself. Johnson is innocent, Evans said. Photos of him wearing clothes like the person in the video do not mean he is the same person, Evans said.

Deputy District Attorney Paul Hagerman, in opening statements, said Young Dolph, whose real name was Adolph Thornton Jr., was determined to make it on his own as an artist, and also with his own label, Paper Route Empire.

“Trying to make it on your own can create enemies,” Hagerman said.

He noted that Yo Gotti founded rival record label Cocaine Muzic Group (now known as Collective Music Group) and wanted Young Dolph to work for them, but he turned them down. Young Dolph later wrote diss tracks directed at the label, its artists and its “number two person,” Big Jook.

Young Dolph had survived previous shootings. He was shot multiple times in September 2017 after a fight outside a Los Angeles hotel. In February of that year, his SUV was shot at in Charlotte, North Carolina, more than 100 times. The incident was the inspiration for the song “100 Shots.” He said he survived because he had bulletproof panels in his vehicle.

Big Jook, whose real name was Anthony Mims, was shot and killed outside a restaurant in January 2024, according to media reports.

Smith, who said he was shot in the arm and the leg by Young Dolph’s brother, Marcus Thornton, as he fled the cookie store shooting testified that he received only $800 prior to his arrest. He said his attorney was later paid another $50,000 by Big Jook.

Recommended Stories

Asked by Hagerman how he felt after shooting Young Dolph, Smith said, “I wasn’t feeling nothing at the time. I’m not gonna lie. I was trying to get some money.”

Smith testified that his young son had died a few months before and he had started “popping pills and not caring about nothing.” His conscience started bothering him only later after he sobered up in jail, he said.

Jermarcus Johnson pleaded guilty in June 2023 to three counts of serving as an accessory after the killing by helping Smith and Justin Johnson, his half-brother.

Jermarcus Johnson acknowledged helping the two shooting suspects communicate by cellphone while they were on the run from authorities and helping one of them communicate with his probation officer. Jermarcus Johnson has not been sentenced.

Hernandez Govan has pleaded not guilty to organizing the killing.

Young Dolph began his career by releasing numerous mixtapes, starting with 2008′s “Paper Route Campaign.” His multiple studio albums include his 2016 debut “King of Memphis.” He also collaborated on other mixtapes and albums with fellow rappers Key Glock, Megan Thee Stallion, T.I., Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz and others.

He had three albums reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200, with 2020′s “Rich Slave” peaking at No. 4.

Big News for Demigods: Tamara Smart joins “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” Season 2 as Thalia Grace! – Where Is The Buzz

[ad_1]

Calling all Camp Half-Blood peeps! Disney+ just dropped some awesome news: Tamara Smart (“Resident Evil”) is joining season two of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” as the awesome Thalia Grace, daughter of Zeus himself!

Smart will be a recurring guest star, joining the crew we already know and love: Walker Scobell (Percy Jackson), Leah Sava Jeffries (Annabeth Chase), Aryan Simhadri (Grover Underwood), and the rest of the gang.

Season two dives into Rick Riordan’s “The Sea of Monsters,” the next book in the epic Percy Jackson series. Thalia’s a super cool demigod warrior with a rebellious side and fierce loyalty to her friends. Zeus, her dad (awkward!), turned her into a magical tree to protect Camp Half-Blood, but don’t worry, she’s still a total badass.

Author Rick Riordan is psyched about Smart’s casting: “Finding the perfect Thalia was key. She’s gotta be tough, loyal, and totally rockin’ the whole demigod rebel vibe. Tamara totally blew us away with her audition – she’s electric! Plus, she totally embodies the ‘grace’ part of Thalia Grace!”

This role is even more special for Smart because she previously worked with the late Lance Reddick, who played Zeus in season one. Fun fact: Smart also played Reddick’s daughter in another project!

“I’m so grateful and excited to be joining the cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” Smart said. “It’s so close to my heart. Lance Reddick and I always spoke about working together again, so it’s that much more special and important to me to play his daughter once more as Thalia, and to keep his memory alive. I feel his presence all around me and strive to make him proud on this exciting journey.”

Filming for season two of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is happening right now in Vancouver, and it’s expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2025. While you wait, catch up on season one to see Percy and his friends on their first epic quest! This is gonna be legendary!
