On Sunday, Nathan Wade— the former Fulton County special prosecutor who worked on the Georgia election interference case against Donald Trump — sat down with ABC News’ Linsey Davis to discuss his resignation from the high-profile case following his the revelation of his romantic relationship with District Attorney Fani Willis.

Wade was removed from the case in March after a judge’s ruling. In the shocking interview, he confirmed dating Willis. “Workplace romances are as American as apple pie,” Wade said. “It happens to everyone. But it happened to the two of us.”

When asked by Davis if he had any regrets, Wade was concise in his response. “I regret that that private matter became the focal point of this very important prosecution,” he explained. “This is a very important case. I hate that my personal life has begun to overshadow the true issues in the case.”

In November 2021, Willis appointed Wade to lead Georgia’s election-interference case against Trump along with his co-defendants. However, in January, one of Trump’s defense lawyers on the case filed a motion demanding Willis and Wade be disqualified for having an inappropriate relationship.

“[Willis is] an intelligent woman. I like to think that I’m above average intelligence as well,” Wade stated. “It wasn’t lost upon the two of us that things could bleed over into the case and start to affect it. And so, we made the adult-like decision to do what we did.”

He remained steadfast that the nature of their relationship did not affect the integrity of the case against Trump.

“I don’t think that anything that occurred during the course of the relationship should cause question as it would relate to the sufficiency of the indictment, as it would relate to any of the evidence that was uncovered and may or may not be presented at trial,” Wade said.

Willis has yet to respond to Wade’s remarks, which is smart considering the way conservatives attempted to ruthlessly smear her reputation.
